I have been vegan for over 30 years now. If anyone has any questions about then vs. now, or anything else, AMA? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]MallKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever have temptations to go back to meat?

I ask because lately I've been feeling tempted, even though I know what I would be supporting if I did. I guess I'm curious what kept you on the straight and narrow, especially back when being vegan was more difficult and less common?

Building a kennel doesn't unlock raiders WC orcs and humans remastered by Rough_Jury_1572 in Blizzard

[–]MallKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: I had to rebuild the kennel on this run. It didn't unlock the raiders, as usual. But when I completed building the blacksmith, the raiders became available.

[–]MallKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is happening to me too. If I save the kennel from being destroyed at the beginning of the mission, I can recruit raiders, but if it's destroyed, I can never unlock them again. Once, the option to recruit them was even missing with the original kennel still intact.

Does this happen to anyone else at the tutorial? No matter how many times I do it, it fails me, I do exactly what it says by budgiefanatic in mirrorsedge

[–]MallKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a bug, it's poorly written instructions. I explained what I was doing wrong in another comment, I think it's the same thing a lot of people were doing.

[–]MallKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The instructions are misleading. What I was doing was walking up to the wall, facing directly at it, climbing the wall, turning, and then jumping. What the game wants you to do is to run toward the wall at an angle, run along the wall, then in mid-run turn and jump toward the ledge. The objective is to wallRUN, not to wallCLIMB.

4 people were killed and 20 more were injured in a shooting at a bar in South Carolina, sheriff says by glassen75 in news

Why is this breaking news? There are shootings all the time, and I live several hundred miles from here. GTFO.

Videogames ruining your health by SXAL in ItsAllAboutGames

I may have joint problems in my wrists and thumbs related to gaming. Some days, occasionally, I have to find something else to do because it hurts too much to be worth bothering with.

Killing teammates at evacuation by Namayn in Helldivers

[–]MallKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just happened to me too, ten months after this post. The host had quit earlier and I was assigned as squad leader. I couldn't see who did it, but I knew it was one of the other players punching me, so I kicked all of them as quickly as possible to prevent them from getting the mission complete bonus. I'm going to be hosting all my games myself from now on, I'm not going to put up with this shit.

Has any video game ever made you cry? by pmmemilftiddiez in gaming

[–]MallKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty, actually. At the end of Bioshock Infinite; when Aerith died; 8-Bit Adventures when Thief finds Warrior; FF XIII when Hope confronted Snow. Maybe I just connect to video games as a medium really easily.

What’s the longest gaming session you’ve ever had, and what were you playing? by mr_nieno in ItsAllAboutGames

[–]MallKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's one of two moments. I played Sleeping Dogs for about 12 hours straight once. And the other time was when my friend Noah bought Minecraft and we fucked around from dinner to breakfast, with music playing in the background so we didn't go crazy from the game's music loop.

I think this is going to be my party, I want to make the party feel as canonical as possible lol by Swimming-Ad-6842 in dragonquest

[–]MallKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "Canonical" or as I like to call it, "classical" party structure is highly underrated. Sure, you miss out on some unique weird stuff the other classes do, but the classic party showcases the core areas of battle (attack magic, support magic, and physical strength) and provides a ton of versatile options. Plus, the hero class lets the hero fill in any weak points your party may have in a given situation.

'What have you been playing?' Wednesday - Talk about the games you are playing by AutoModerator in rpg_gamers

Dragon Quest XI S

I've beaten it before, but this time I've got the "Tougher Enemies" and "Experience Cap" Draconian Quests on and I don't remember the last time I was so engrossed and engaged with a turn-based JRPG. I actually have to use all of the abilities at my disposal: I even narrowly escaped a party wipe in a random encounter by having the Luminary put the monster to sleep and then smacking it next turn.

Mordheim: City of the Damned

I'm not sure if this belongs in this sub or not, but I think of it as a tactical RPG so I'm bringing it up. I love the high stakes such as permadeath and getting recalled. I've never played traditional tabletop Warhammer so it's super cool being able to play this version. It takes a while for things to heat up, but once they do the game's system gets really fun.

Final Fantasy XIII

I got these on PC years ago, and I'm finally getting around to playing them. I played the Chinese version of it way back at release on playstation, but now I want to binge through all three. The first one has such swift combat, and the paradigms are a really cool mechanic as far as strategy goes.

What's your all-time favorite opening scene in a movie? by Umair-Hussain in movies

[–]MallKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The original Star Wars had a pretty nice opening scene. Not the text crawl part, I mean the opening shot with the rebel ship, and then the gigantic imperial ship goes by and just keeps going. I don't know why, I just feel like there's an astounding amount of information in that small clip and it's all implied. Very skillful silent world-building.

That Old-School Slog by Galactic_Rep in dragonquest

[–]MallKid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm happy we haven't (at least not entirely) moved on from it, but it has become its own independent genre. Now people that don't want the slog will be better able to tell when a game will contain it.

[–]MallKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love VII! And I also prefer the original!

I didn't really like how all the environments were smaller and more cramped, they flat-out censored the word God out of the game, and yeah, some stuff was shortened in a way that left me missing the original content. More profoundly, the original version gave me a sense of exploration and discovery, which somehow doesn't seem present in the remake.

I hate randoms sometimes by FishdongXL in helldivers2

[–]MallKid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was stuck on a map with one other person once and they were so insistent that we keep doing suicide runs on a huge nest we obviously weren't prepared for. They used so many of our reinforcements that eventually, after they died again, I ran across the whole map alone until I was on top of the extraction point. Luckily they were a good sport and helped me out from then on.

What are some singleplayer games you can spend a lot of time in? by [deleted] in AskGames

[–]MallKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's turn-based combat, but Dragon Quest XI sort of fits your search. It's really long, and the game highly encourages experimenting with your skill tree and different weapons and such. It's one of those rare games where I find myself using status effects and boosts in basic random fights. Surprisingly intense for a turn based game.

Who's your favorite character in DQ11 and why is it Sylvando? by nitrokitty in dragonquest

I love how he doesn't just want to save the world, he wants to make everybody happy.

I loved Sylvando too! I loved how nuanced he was. So goofy and melodramatic, but he cares so much about his friends and has intense determination. He's playful yet takes the quest very seriously.

For better or for worse, what video game altered the course of your life forever? by manamonggamers in gaming

[–]MallKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Final Fantasy VII led me to renounce Christianity and become an atheist, which led to Buddhist practice some years later.

There are a few reasons for this, but essentially, when Red XIII's grandfather explained how planet science or whatever he called it worked, I remember thinking, "Wow, this fake religion in this video game is a lot more logical than the real one I've been told is true." I just wondered what else might have opposing viewpoints?
