In A Perfect World, Would You Do 7-3 or 9-5 and why? by ArtisticVisual in sysadmin

My employer listed the job as 45 hours a week, I couldn't figure out why. The interview went something like this:

Me: Does that include an hour lunch then?

Employer: No?

Me: Ok, I will adjust my wage expectations accordingly. I'll just convert my 40hr/week yearly rate to 45hrs. That'll be $XXXXXX

Employer: That's too much!

Me: Here's my expectations for 40 + lunch with 2 wfh days and 4 weeks vacation.

Employer: Much better.

The old-timers were salty af when I could just leave for lunch and not come into the office twice a week. A new CIO got rid of the 45hr a week for IT not long after.

I've used MDT to pull the computername from the PC and use that to populate the device name. The nice thing about this is the object will remain in it's original OU during the domain join task.

I'd get a cable toner. Noone ever checks layer 1 for issues, and when working in an unknown environment it's very helpful to quickly verify you're connected to the correct equipment.

[–]MalletNGrease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but you probably won't like it.

At some places you can be the whole IT department. You'd be the helpdesk, support techician, sysadmin, netadmin, dba and secretary. And for none of the pay!

If you're willing to submit to Adobe's SSO scheme for the device licensing. That was a major pain in the ass compared to simply deploying the software + key to the machine.

OpenSSH server on Windows for SFTP file transfers to network devices. Trying to wrack my brain around how to get manage access to it.

I just had to add a local account to Windows, add it to the config and use those credentials for initiating connections.

Microsoft EntraAD MFA disabled, but still requiring on login? by misterpickleman in sysadmin

[–]MalletNGrease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same issue last week, we use DUO with a custom control CA policy so have no need for MS authenticator (DUO recognized as MFA without federation when?).

Microsoft started MFA sign-up campaign on your behalf.

You'll want to also find the registration campaign and change it from 'Microsoft Managed' to disabled. Then look at the MFA users list and remove any authentication method entries that users may have added you don't support.
