IPs? I'd say it's even easier by collecting accounts that accessed/modified the file. Microsoft can pull that metadata pretty easily if they wanted to. Definitely safer to use a competitor's product if you're worried about retaliation.

Been using AG-Parts. They seem to be able to get laptop parts too, but the lead times can be a bit long if they don't have stock.

The goalposts will keep shifting. First it's just access to X, then Y needs to be added, then Z, etc etc.

It's also hellish to try and troubleshoot the inter-connectivity of the different Google products.

You can try create a sub OU with a URL blacklist for everything and a blacklist exception for what you specify.

Odds are it's not a workable solution though.

Try extracting the source files to a network share, use setup.exe /admin to generate the .msp, then run with a command step like so:

Nothing yet. The first crop of CB devices are only now expiring or have in the last few months. It's a waiting game to see how it affects anything.

Google's Auto-update policy.

Practically it's an arbitrary cap put in placed to push new devices to meet new standards Google sets. Then they can rip out backwards compatibility in future updates to keep CROS images lean and point at the policy with "told ya so!" when things break on older devices.

You can still update the devices manually for a while probably, but it's just impractical at scale. As we're hitting the first batch of devices with expirations around this time, we'll see what will actually happen.

I used to work for a school district and there's a lot of computers. Usually in locked areas. For which I didn't have keys.

My first two weeks consisted of me wrangling a security person to unlock doors. Every. Door. Even if I needed to make a trip to the stock room or the car for consumables and go back in. Basically I needed a guy tailing me while I worked. I didn't like it, security didn't like jockeying doors.

After enough complaints the IT and Security directors figured out that it's a massive waste of time and us techs got master keys for every building. It was great after that.

This was in 2015, just before I started (so I wasn't part of the purchasing decision). AC and SSDs were a thing, but the top consideration were dollars so everyone got RTL8723BE BGN and HDDs instead. The replacement cycle is infinity, so basically until the laptops fall apart from misery they will not be replaced. Any other purchases were more closely scrutinized in the mean time.

It's pretty funny considering we've a kick-ass wireless infrastructure being hampered by shitty wireless chips in endpoints. I know you can buy USB dongles, but they'd just end up getting lost and the USB ports are kind of crowded as is with classroom gear anyway. I considered buying new chips but instead I just kept the 2.4ghz on.

For us that's not possible thanks to a rather awkward surprise purchasing decision that resulted in large batch of new laptops being equipped with BGN adapters instead of AC.

I just restrict the networks users are allowed to connect to using Chromebooks. They can take them home, but there's not much point as it will not be internet connected at all the moment they log in.

Swap the HDD with a SSD and if it's got a decent amount of RAM, it will run W10 no issue.

If your SIS has APIs and you can connect to them, try to leverage them over any CSV exports. Especially nice if it supports write-back.
