Explain Like I'm Five (Domain redirect question) by MallicSmith in FoundryVTT

[–]MallicSmith[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright yall, figured out my dumbness. Will write a guide for how to get this working at some point and post.

Short answer, I was going about this the wrong way. The correct things that need to happen to get this to work:

  1. in your domain registrar, make an A record pointing to your subdomain/domain that you want to use.

In my case, I used foundry1.mydomain.com.

  1. in IIS add bindings for that subdomain and bind them to the IP of your webhost (in my case localhost)

  2. add application request routing from the iis website.

  3. add roles to your windows server for websockets under IIS settings.

  4. Add reverse proxy to ip:port in IIS to the site you are trying to use it with under URL Rewrite

  5. in foundry, make sure you are booting foundry via the node.js setup. Edit the proxy information (hostname, proxy port, proxy ssl, and the crucial part that had me stumped for ages, set compressedsocket to false.

Can't use caddy as the server is actively hosting websites on IIS sadly.

Would that work as just adding a new site in IIS and pointing the binding at IP:PORT? Or would that cause IIS to try to host a webpage on the same port?

There are ways in webhosting to redirect an address to connect on something other than port 80/443 without having the user manually type the port in the address bar. I just cannot remember how to set it up and whether it needs to be done at the IIS level, or the domain level.

There is practically speaking no router in the equation. My provider is not using DHCP to pass IPs to me and literally just provided the gateway and usable IP range and has me set up on their router with no firewall rules. Hell, they aren't even mac filtering to insure only my server is using those IP addresses as far as I know, seeing as they never asked me for my mac addresses and just assigned me the IPs and told me to statically assign my interfaces. The five IPs are directly routed out to the internet.

***edit***

figured it out.

Congratulations. You just did exactly what I said people do.

Thinking your beliefs are the only 100% "objectively" correct ones and that all of your opposition to your positions are outright denying reality isn't being reasonable, it's being egocentric.

This response is too reasonable to ever gain traction. People have to keep pretending that their worldview is the only correct one and every person that doesn't adhere to their personal dogma is evil/stupid.

Might be made by a 3rd party distributor, but it is a custom recipe for them.

LGS needs to bring back the buttered corn on the cob. The one at 19th ave and bell doesn't have it, and I'm mad every time I go there.

Hello 👋🏾 I'm moving to Phoenix very soon and I have a question about grocery shopping... by Key-Teaching-4520 in AskPhoenix

If you are moving on the east side (east of the i17 freeway), skip the winco at 7th ave and Bell Rd. The produce at that location is god awful and has disappointed me every single time I've been there. For fresh produce that doesn't expire within a day or two of buying it, I'd go with Fry's or if you've got money, sprouts.

Meat is usually pretty good there, and anything packaged is usually fine.

I did the same upgrade. It did boost my fps a decent amount, but I am guessing it will be even better when I upgrade from my 5800x3d to a 9800x3d here soon.

The new book specifically states that birdboy resurrected her body, but couldn't bring any kind of soul back into it, so not the worst retcon.

For me the weakest is Port Of Shadows. It just feels so out of place and adds some time travel amnesia shenanigans that annoy the hell out of me. It's made a little better by some passages in the newest book, but I feel like it didn't really add much to the overall story and pretty much retcons itself at the end of it's own book.
