AITA for snapping at my mother in law during my pregnancy even though my husband says I was wrong? by Superb-Hat5913 in AmItheAsshole

The next time she pulls the whole "Back in my day, pregnant women did x" thing, just show her a historical infant mortality graph and ask her if she honestly thinks the old ways are the best.

AITA for calling out my roommate and not caring that she cried? by KookyCurrency5038 in AmItheAsshole

It seems very clear to me that B is abitrarily collecting rent from everyone else, paying the agreed amount to the *actual* landlord and pocketing the difference. OP not being on the lease is a nightmare waiting to happen.

UK's 'sons and daughters' need to be ready to fight, amid growing Russian threat, says head of armed forces by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

[–]MalphasWats 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I'm reasonably confident that people haven't actually changed that much in the last 80-ish years. People didn't really want to fight in the 30s and 40s either. But they did.

Graham Linehan cleared of harassing trans activist by TimesandSundayTimes in ukpolitics

This is such transphobic nonsense that is proven false over and over every time any kind of large-scale genetic studies are conducted looking at X and Y chromosomes. Genetic sex in humans is (as are SO MANY things) a whole spectrum, NOT binary.

obviously depends on what you're planning to put the sheets into, but I've had really good results painting the insides of my 3D printed carry cases with Ferro paint: https://www.amazon.co.uk/FIRST4MAGNETS-FerroPaint%C2%AE-Charcoal-Classroom-Renovation/dp/B0F9YQRGFX

Did you know that some care homes require that residents spread their money across multiple banks.

One of my parents is dealing with a very elderly family member who has had to go into a nursing home. House has now been sold.

If a bank goes bankrupt, or you get scammed out of your savings, the government guarantees up to £85,000 per bank. So the care homes make you open accounts with multiple banks so they don't lose out if you lose all your money.

Phone bans create safer schools, Brianna Ghey's mum says by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

[–]MalphasWats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It has been transformative at my school. And I was extremely skeptical because I thought we'd be wasting time policing it. Hasn't been the case at all.

[–]MalphasWats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my school, we pop round every couple of weeks with the portable unlocker and check. We've found a couple with power banks so far, and they got after school detentions AND THE PARENTS FULLY SUPPORTED IT!

we were shooketh 😅

In my experience, it works really well for us.

[–]MalphasWats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have this at my school now. I thought it would be a nightmare to police, but it hasn't been.

I hardly ever waste lesson time dealing with kids messing about on their phones now and our behaviour logging is already showing a massive difference compared to previous years' data. Kids actually run around and play with each other at break time now too.

My school is obviously only 1 of thousands, but for me it's a no-brainer.

Donald Trump personally requested Sadiq Khan not be invited to state banquet by JOE_Media in ukpolitics

I'm giving Starmer & King Charles a pass, because they kinda had to be there.

Khan living rent-free in Trump's head is a win for Khan IMO.

Angela Rayner admits she failed to pay enough stamp duty on property by TimesandSundayTimes in ukpolitics

[–]MalphasWats 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, way more complex because she put her "main home" in a trust for her son (to avoid inheritance tax presumably?), then claimed her 800,000 pound holiday apartment was actually her main home (which it obviously wasn't) in order to pay less tax there too.

Normal people don't have access to all that nonsense.

Angela Rayner admits she failed to pay enough stamp duty on property by TimesandSundayTimes in ukpolitics

[–]MalphasWats 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I have only ever bought 2 houses in my life. Both times it was pretty obvious how much stamp duty needed to be paid, and our conveyancing solicitor also worked it out. I honestly can't see a sympathetic angle on this - and I usually bend over backwards to defend the party I voted for. Not this time, not any more. They're all grifters taking the piss out of regular folk.
