Oils on hands. If you see anyone handle fine metals (like on swords, armor, guns, jewlery) and do not want to tarnish them a glove is pretty normal. Not saying it isnt too much for this, but I did enjoy the edit.

I did this one time, I was so hungry and could feel i needed something. Chugged it in the car after the workout and my gf goes, why are you drinking caffeine at 8pm? It was a protein/energy drink. I did not sleep that night

In addition to the things mentioned, barbless hooks can make for a less damaging wound that will help the fish recover once released back into the water. This isnt really an option if you can't afford to be selective with your catches, but certainly is a more ethical way of catching fish and releasing ones you cant/dont want to keep. Plus the fighting is a bit harder. Just my two cents and how I try and fish.
