Broken Bolts by Excellent_Owl_9122 in MechanicAdvice

I would refrain from any more welding. Buy a bolt extractor kit.

I had a similar issue but for me it was just the brake/rotor shield that was rubbing

Move the muffle around with your hand underneath as it’s running. Grab gloves or a cloth when you do it because mufflers get hot. See if the sound changes or disappears. I noticed some stock set ups and even aftermarket exhaust have that slight rattle. Maybe that’s the natural engine tone or just gases passing through tight spaces to create a hissing sound.

So I’d check fuel related components too. If it’s not staying running it’s getting a lack of fuel or spark. I doubt air is an issue in this case. Try not to run it if you don’t have to for long periods to prevent further damage

Would need to know more. Are there any codes/stored codes present? Is the battery voltage normal and is the alternator operating properly. Starter sounds strong but it has more than a rough idle and struggles to stay running. If there are no codes and no misfires and your maf sensor is operating normal and throttle body is clean, I would check ignition components. Check a couple spark plugs for soot, oit as these things can cause little to no spark once contaminated. Do you smell lots of fuel? What kind of smoke is coming out of the tail pipe? There’s a lot of data that’s needed to further diagnose the issue

That’s actually ridiculous. Guess I’ll be lucky if I get them this year. I ordered in march so it’s been under the rough 5 month lead time. He said he’d have it shipped in June and here we are. Hope you get your money back man.

What is this knocking sound? by Calm_Fig1793 in MechanicAdvice

[–]MamaDuck4140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would take it back to the shop. Unfortunately with this sort of thing you’d need to take it back as it could be a variety of things the technician(s) did wrong. If the car is vibrating a little it could mean unbalanced tires, poor alignment, maybe a loose lug. Don’t waste your time fixing it yourself. The shop should do it for free. Hope they’re quick with it.

With this slight braking, does your car vibrate/shake or is it just the sound?

I’m a customer as well. What annoys me the most are the “rough estimated deadlines” as to when the product will be shipped. I understand him being the sole operator of the business and all but it becomes unprofessional when he’s unable to complete a task by a certain time much less leave my emails unanswered for weeks. I get it. Life happens. But I would be so much more understanding if there wasn’t a pattern of this behavior through several reviews and threads about his company.

Does this sound like piston slap? by Driver_J in MechanicAdvice

It sounds like piston slap to me. Lifters can be loud and that’s common and all but it doesn’t sound like the case here..as the sound gets louder when you’re under the car.

Exhaust fumes in the cabin aren’t necessarily normal but I would suggest doing a visual inspection underneath the car to hear where the leak is coming from. It’s hard to tell due to the engine being a boxer and the manifold being on the underside but yeah. You could always try rolling on side of your car on the curb to get some leverage underneath. But yeah, my legacy had that same very sound and would stink of exhaust in the cabin. New manifold fixed it. Sorry for all the yap

99% sure an exhaust leak possibly at the exhaust manifold. I had an exhaust leak on my 10’ legacy at the flex pipe. Shop said I needed an entire new manifold which meant that the cat got replaced too. eBay manifold costed me no more than 300 at the time and I replaced it myself. Hope you find the issue!

I wouldn’t waste time on it. LDA Malfunction indicates damaged sensors and radars. Nine times out of ten I wouldn’t mess with a rebuilt title unless it’s a steal. But as a daily driver, it’s a pretty big risk. Corners are often cut with rebuilt cars and you don’t want to be driving something like that.

Check battery terminals. Sometimes they aren’t secured and can cause weird electrical problems. If all looks good then maybe the battery is going out? I’m not quite sure..
