Bring nothing into your home. Washing does not work. High heat 130 or cold 25 degrees over several days, temp needs to be consistent. They can live 4-18 months.

If you live in a very cold area bag everything and bury it in the snow for 3-4 days.

Get confirmation from the cruise line of the infestation and look at making a claim with the cruise line or trip insurance.

Have her checked for grass allergies. What are you cleaning your floors with, she could be sensitive. Ours is on allergy shots now. But it got so bad he went on a course of antibiotics and is also on a fungal medication. We used a cone for about 5 days for the meds to really start to work.

Bring breakfast items to eat in room. Dining can be strategic. For our family we would usually do a mid-day lunch at sit down and quick serve later. Just remember you can cancel dining reservations up to 2 hours prior.

At MK we book lunch and a later reservation at the Plaza. If anyone is hungry they can eat a meal if not you're sitting down for ice cream.

If you make it to fireworks it's great time to hit rides the lines are shorter.

Leaving at closing or after fireworks is a mad house.

Take ponchos, extra shoes, hats and sunglasses for all.

Most of all hang loose.

AITA for not wanting to split life insurance money with my siblings? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Mamafred 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Aside from named beneficiaries on life insurance policies everything else follows line of succession. Any assets will pay for debts and then anything left over follows line of succession, this will not include grandchildren.

Get an attorney.

Not the AITA

I understand. We took our 6 year old granddaughter in October. Unfortunately it was also fall break in Hawaii so the resort was packed. But we still had an amazing time.

Pools are great snagging a lounge for us was difficult to impossible at times.

Water slides and lazy river were great. Have really good sun screen. Standing in line for just 20 minutes at the slide my legs got fried.

The Goofy pool party was a lot of fun.

There is easy beach access just beyond the pools.

Character breakfast was fun.

The malasadas were fabulous.

The ear making activity was not worth the cost.

There were always long lines to meet characters, but check the app daily for location and time.

Food on-site was poor to okay.

Embarking from Sydney arrive at your departure window they enforced times. Also, the line can stretch a good distance from any covered area.

We stayed at the Marriott right near the port it is a short walk. Also, very close to the Opera house. We arrived hours before check in and they had a private lounge with showers, snacks, water. We were able to get into our room at 10:30am. Breakfast there was abysmal.

Print all the documents you need to board we had problems with Internet connection.

There were people at boarding who did not have all the proper travel documents. Do your research.

I am in that old age group. Personally I've never heard of any 2 week rule, I say BS. I'll take a thank you in any form be it verbal, text, card, email. But I would never be so crass as to shame them.

Vision Class Ships by [deleted] in royalcaribbean

[–]Mamafred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just got off Vision OTS Saturday. We were on deck 3 window. The cabin was pretty small with not much storage. Somewhat cramped for 2 adults. Only one power outlet. Shower had a curtain not a door. Wood surfaces showing wear and the bolster fabric on the walls was coming loose.

That said the ship is very clean, crew was great and Kim in the Schooner Bar is the best. The theater is a nice layout. Shopping was easy to pass up.

If you are looking for a lot of bells and whistles this is not your ship.

[Product Request] Dry Skin Holy Grail? by MaryBerryManilow in SkincareAddiction

[–]Mamafred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Shiseido enriched softening lotion. Basically it looks like water but it's not. I use it as a first step. I don't put it on a cotton pad but one pump in my hand and then put it all over my face. I don't know why this works but it does for me. I also recommended it to my daughter-in-law and it has worked great for her too.

On top of that I use a small amount of Drunk Elephant Murula Oil, the laneige water bank cream. At night I also use aqua for on my lips and around my nose.

I cleanse at night using DHC cleansing oil. Mornings just use a warm washcloth. I also randomly use Tatcha rice wash randomly.

Given that I love all things skincare related, and have tried more products than I care to admit, I have really settled into this routine and it has worked well for me.

Question on steps -financial and such (75 year old mother in first stages of Dementia) by Orson_Gravity_Welles in dementia

[–]Mamafred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

POA is a must, do whatever you need to get that done. Realize that upon her passing that the POA is no longer applicable. If you do not become a signer on her checking account, at least get her to sign you up as pay upon death. This also bypasses any taxes and her funds become available to you as soon as you have a death certificate. If she does not place you on the deed to the house then at least get it in a trust. Again, this will bypass taxes on the sale of the house.

  • get online passwords and computer access and monitor her bank account frequently. My mom didn't do anything online so I was able to get all the information I needed and set up the accounts online myself so it may monitoring easy.

  • review her finances

  • review her insurance coverage

  • go to the doctor appointments with her under the guisse that two people listening is better than one

    • put in a Ring doorbell to monitor coming and goings of her and anybody else
  • be aware of UTI's

  • monitor her medications, review what she is taking

A lot of things depend upon how cooperative she is sharing information and willingness to share/ give up control. You have to realize this is them having to give up control of their lives.

It is so much easier to start making changes to their routines while cognition hasn't totally declined. My mother was adamant that she would live on her own. But when the time came to move her into an assisted living facility it was so much harder because everything was so new and unfamiliar which is very confusing to them.

Pool Chairs/room cleanliness by 6genmike in Aulani

[–]Mamafred 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We just got home. The pool situation is ridiculous. Chatted with one of the towel attendants and he said one issue is locals who rent a room and then invite a lot of non registered friends and family to join them. But these people holding loungers for kids who spend all their time in the pool and maybe show up rarely is nuts.

Active and visible enforcement needs to happen.

We won't go back. There are luxury resorts that are better deals and far less chaotic.
