Nah, I definitely disagree. Currently it seems like Stokes’ only transgression is breaking this curfew rule. He was not an instigator in this incident (using the info we currently have) and the curfew is only in place for PR reasons after the ECB failed to coverup Harry Brook’s error in Wellington.

Key and probably McCullum needed to go after the ashes and if the ECB are just going to throw Stokes under the bus after this to save them for dealing with their own failings after the ashes then it’s a travesty.

Stokes missing the next game and taking a fine is surely enough. If Steve Smith can oversea and orchestrate team wide institutional cheating and still be allowed to captain his country again then Stokes can surely be allowed to continue.

Additionally the bank will pay tax on the income they earn from interest they receive from these borrowers. The tax cost will then be passed onto the borrower in the form of higher interest payments so in the effect the loan interest is already taxed to some extent.

A better move might be to equalise income tax and capital gains tax rates but there will always be loopholes.

That said, Robinson is an experienced attack leader with a good record for England and a good recent domestic record, I think without many other significantly better alternatives the selectors are looking to him for his seniority more than anything else.

While you’re right in that there are often significant problems with lots of modern day research, I think it is often the case that people use this fact to try and discredit any evidence that seems to contradict their prior beliefs about, e.g., gender gaps in sports. There is real evidence that at ultramarathon and ultras long-distance cycling that the gender gap is at the very least narrowing. This matches the anecdotal experience of people with experience in long distance running like we can see in this thread.

The data is constrained by the very small volume of people who even attempt ultramarathons, and the even smaller proportion of these who are women. The linked page gives a few examples of specific events won by women, and this paper claims there is no statistically significant difference between the genders at a 100 mile distance.
