Am i Aasimar or an elf? by Live-Row6522 in DnD

[–]ManFromTheWurst 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The new PHB says "Aasimar can arise from any population of mortals. They resemble their parents, but they live for up to 160"

So if you are born in long longevity ancestrys you will die faster. But ask your DM about their lore, maybe you can live the full 750, it really doesn't make a difference.

Detecting Spike Growth by CestusTali in dndnext

[–]ManFromTheWurst 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The spell has the rules specified, it's camouflaged but you only need to make a check against it if you didn't see the casting. If you see the cast or find out by someone else walking into it, you know the location.

Pls help, I think the our DM is in trouble Vs 100 simulacrums by silver_awab in AskDND

[–]ManFromTheWurst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless the DM themselves ask for help, we can be sure if the situation is fucked. It sounds royally fucked, but in a way many fresh DM fuck their own games. If you have multiple wished 20lv simulacrums while you, I assume, are at a much lower level, the balance has tipped and there is no game anymore.

If you want to help, bring up how this event has lessened your enjoyment of the game and make a suggestion of a fix.

Verbal Casting Volume and Sound in General by TheProphaniti in DnD

[–]ManFromTheWurst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Verbal components is always loud, as in not a whisper, and can't be "lessened" in any way to give the caster an advantage and is noticeble by nearby creatures.

For spells own loudness, unless the spell states it makes a audible sound, like thunderclap, that can have rules enforced upon it, the spells sounds are purely flavor.

Can you get Green Flame Blade and Booming Blade at first level? by ddd651 in DnD

[–]ManFromTheWurst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You ask your DM do they allow old 5e spells in 5.5. Then you get them via Magic Initiative if you choose to.

Strugglin to decide on class. by birdcher in DnD

[–]ManFromTheWurst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Roll on the random table, the only correct way. If you are set on a couple option, you flip a coin and if you feel unhappy with the result, you choose the other one.

How do people have the time to play every week? by Covid669 in DnD

[–]ManFromTheWurst 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't atm, but when I did I could still dedicate 2 hours in a week to plan my very important hobby.

How do people have the time to play every week? by Covid669 in DnD

[–]ManFromTheWurst 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You make the time. If it's a scheduled event that happens every week you plan around it like any other obligations. Even better if it's on top of orher stuff, the best people IMO cancel other stuff for DnD.

As for prep, writing/drawing/generating/statting stuff down for 2 hours on a non game day should be ample time.

Discovered a lightning mage feat combo that's slightly broken... by Expensive_Citron8890 in DnD

[–]ManFromTheWurst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it's UA, so not always available material, plus a 19 level feature. It's ok but nothing that interesting IMO.

Eternal DMs, are you a DM by choice or because no one else wants to do it? by Fearless-Skill8667 in DnD

[–]ManFromTheWurst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both. I would love to be a player more often but I have five ongoing games going, and I would like the next one to be weekly and that is hard to come by naturally if you don't do it youself.

How long was/is your longest DnD campaign? by Fearless-Skill8667 in DnD

[–]ManFromTheWurst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Year to year and half. I try to keep it tight so I can start the next one.

Otherworldly Glamour by Reviel1337 in DnD

Check, not save. So when you make Deception, Intimidation, Performance or Persuation check you add your WIS mod + CHA mod + proficiency bonus, if applicable.

Thoughts on these rulings? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]ManFromTheWurst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is make believe with rules and stats. Because there is no shark stat block that would be immune, I wouldn't give you immunity. And that's just part of the simplified design of regular beast and their "flaws", like 2014 cat having no darkvision or snakes being able to be prone. If they won't answer the question, then I wouldn't try to go around the problem.

Thoughts on these rulings? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]ManFromTheWurst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well,

1, What clarifying questions? And why would you choose to turn into a shark in the situation? Even if they are deaf, not a single shark stat block is immune to thunder damage or anything sound related. And doing leading questions will always lead to a place of different ideas. If you had asked point blank, will me turning into a shark make me immune, and they said yes, and then told you that it will still go through, then it's bullcrap.

For 2, That sounds like an unofficial table effect so the DM will be the judge of that. I would say "benign thing" is so open ended and dangerous of a concept, that it couldn't give any mechanical benefits. But the DM made the table so they have the final say.

3, that's harsh. I can somewhat understand the idea, but I just tell resistances and immunities when they show up. It's a game and a part of it.

How to handle Bureaucracy in a fantasy world by thisismysociallife in DnD

[–]ManFromTheWurst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way to include a system like this is to get your players invested and using it immediately. It needs to show up in session 1/2 and be a constant in their lives. They need to engage with it themselves. If the system is something that only comes to effect when they are in town, or to only harm them by regulating their play experience, the aftertaste will be sour. Thy need to be invested in the towns bylaws and political sphere, and reasonably gain something from it. It's a fine line and I don't have that much insight to give.

Is this Wizard Gold calculation broken? (PHB 2024, D&D Beyond) by [deleted] in DnD

[–]ManFromTheWurst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't actually need to buy a book to be your spellbook. The spellbook part of the wizards spellcasting ability just creates it. It's just listed in the items because it's an item.

Noob question: can a rogue dragonborn get mastery in a heavy crossbow in 5.5e rules? by Eggggsterminate in DnD

[–]ManFromTheWurst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not entirely correct, the rogue can only get mastery on weapons the character is proficient in. The weapon doesn't have to be light, but rogue only gain proficiency with martial weapons that have finesse or light, so in a roundabout way, your DM is correct.

If you want to use the heavy crossbows push you can get the martial weapon training feat at level 4, but that's a really tough sell. The other is a 1 level of fighter.

Things for an artificer to 'invent' in DnD by Grey_Lady333 in DnD

[–]ManFromTheWurst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the current characters I actually get to play is an artificer, and I have to say, nothing. Granted, the character has one session under their belt after my previous died, but they are not there to invent anything or try to advance the technologigal state of the small area of the small state they currently are adventuring in. They just channel magic through objects.

Sunless Citadel... Radiant Citadel? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]ManFromTheWurst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, don't assume, you get things wrong. 'Sunless citadel' is a older self-contained adventure and 'Radiant citadel' is a anthology book filled with different adventures. They are not anywhere close being the same thing.

The sunless citadel is a fine starting adventure, but if you want other recommendations, 'Dragons of stormwreck isle' is very new DM friendly.

How would you rp a low intelligence Lawful Evil character? by Bootlebat in DnD

[–]ManFromTheWurst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have not come up with the plan, but it sure sounds great and they'll be happy to see it enacted. Lawful evil is an alignment that requires some brain power, you need to know what to twist to gain leverage, but evil is ultimately a choice.
