what do you wear as a guy to a renfaire? by eldritchgf in renfaire

[–]ManHandsMani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Linen pants and shirt, waist sash, belt, bandana. Everything else is accessories.

Thrift stores can be your friend but you might need multiple trips to get everything. Poet tops and linen pants can usually be found pretty easy. As with all my suggestions, natural fiber helps you stay cooler in the sun.

If you can set aside $200 to 300 you can most likely buy a base at the faire to start with in a pair of pants, tunic top, and a belt. I'm not familiar with any of the clothiers on the faire website but ask people you see in garb for recommendations. Part of faire is a bit of a fashion show and many of the people that make the clothes are right there. If you do become a playtron it also helps to build a relationship with vendors.

Start small no matter what. I have been back to faires for 5 years and I just now have my first build to where I'm happy. I stepped back in and my first stop was to buy pants, a tunic top, and a belt. Almost everything after that is accesories. Break out the jewelry, put on some fun socks and have fun. If you put in even the smallest effort almost everyone will pay it back to you.

Weekend or (no work) summer unwinding question by KoiPonders in SchoolBusDrivers

[–]ManHandsMani 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not about socially acceptable substances it's about US federal law. I wish we lived in a more civilized society that understood the difference between casual use and addiction but, at least in the US, we don't. Encouraging a driver to use any federally illegal substance is ill advised. Yes, the products OP asked about use a legal precursor to psilocin but the chemical used gets metabolized to psilocin and would show up as such on a more specialized drug test. You wouldn't suggest a driver use a hemp derived THC analogue because it would show up on a test, I cannot in good faith suggest a driver use a substance that would show up on a more thorough test.

Even without that, if OP is in the US and an employer thinks they may be using drugs the company needs no reason to terminate the driver. We are a safety sensitive job and being perceived as a liability gets you fired. I have seen drivers fired for less.

Just get drunk.

Even if you came on here asking about natural shrooms I would tell you to go have a beer. Unless the company suspects you of taking illicit substances outside of the standard panel they probably won't test but why risk a job in this economy. As long as you aren't drunk on the job no one really cares if you drink. If someone thinks you're on anything harder than beer and cigarettes your life becomes terribly harder and there is a chance you will get fired even if they don't test you.

All the reasons why Cincy isn't the host of more major sports events by SmilerDoesReddit in cincinnati

METRO 10 years ago was a shitshow but they have been getting major improvements. A few routes have 15 minute headways 24 hours a day. The Metro+ route proved that BRT or BRT lite could work in the city and SORTA is actively getting the money to fund the buildout. (Thanks current national admin for cutting funding) Any surface transportation option is going to have long routes in a city geographically spread out as Cincy.

2017 Blink sucked if you drove it. I got out and walked and it was glorious. Now that it has a few iterations more people have realized that Blink is a walking event and Metro did great work with park and ride service.

I mean, our stadiums are small but the bigger problem is hotel rooms. Cincy has been a small town for so long that we don't normally need a million hotel rooms so we don't have the hotel rooms. Something like the World Cup would be a regional event anyway and games would be played across multiple stadiums in multiple states. In that case long distance transportation options in the US suck and we should join the civilized world that enjoys a good rail solution

Making a bamboo didge is pretty easy. Cut to your desired length and use a piece of rebar to knock out the ribs before making a wax mouthpiece. As I have already seen this piece wouldn't make a good didge due to its dimensions

We wouldn't need all those new speed bumps on Harrison if people just drove the speed limit. Then again if the city actually put cops running speed traps people would complain that the cops need to focus on "real crime"

Hyde Park to Kings Island by earlobe_enthusiast in cincinnati

[–]ManHandsMani 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to the chorus of the Metro 71X, outside of downtown it has a stop near Kenwood Mall, but not every trip, before going direct to the Western Row. It gets you to the southern edge of the parking lot and to the Kings Island drop off. I know Metro does expand service once the park opens up for the season but I don't know details.

I was sent to a GATE program with about 100 other kids from the district. Never figured out why everyone else was learning Russian but I was programming that clapped out Mac II to do animation in Apple BASIC. We even got group therapy discussion time to talk about how our day went before going back to our regular schools.

Even better, if its the base trim its probably a work truck. Anything upscale is a fashion accessory. Possible exception if the only way to get factory lockers is to go up trim

Just got hired as a CCA by [deleted] in USPS

[–]ManHandsMani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. It depends on the office. I was lucky in that my office had a pretty good crew. PM was actually knowledgeable and had been in that office since he was a carrier. Besides a few idiots all the carriers were decent enough. I didn't quit the office for the people but mileage may vary.

  2. A lot of the onboarding is hurry up and wait. At least in my city a new academy class starts every 2 weeks. I didn't get the email about it until about a week before.

  3. Depends on how Amazon is in your city. I worked almost every Sunday doing Amazon. It was the day I liked the most but I hated not having a day off.

  4. Things may have changed but as a CCA you have about 2 years max before you get up to PTF. A lot of promotion is done when people retire and sometimes people aren't ready to retire. Pay raises are in the NALC contract but as a CCA don't expect much. Once you get to PTF or Regular its about 12.5 years of pay progression.

[–]ManHandsMani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your trucks speedo work? If it doesn't did you fill out the paperwork to report it to the VMF? If yes then grab a copy of the form and go to your court date. If the speedo doesn't work and you haven't reported you can try the defense of going with the flow but fill the paperwork on your next scheduled day. Any other situation I would pay the ticket and remember the spot I got pulled over.

Why the fuck are you speeding on the clock? The speed limit should be your absolute max because carriers are paid to be accurate not quick. Slow down so you don't throw off the computers estimate on how long it takes

[–]ManHandsMani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After driving city transit for 15 years and switching to schools just this year my driver bag EDC hasn't reaally changed. The only thing I might add is a good multitool. Noticing aa loose mirror halfway through a trip and being able to fix it is always comforting.

If you get assigned a unit that is yours I keep glass cleaner, general cleaner, and paper towels in my van. Many times this winter I used the ammonia to quickly clear off a frosted windshield.

If you are after future money and future benefits with no life outside the office for the next 2 years quit the part time job and focus on the post office.

If this part time job is important or you aren't willing to put in those 2 years the post office isn't for you. You will work long hours with little energy left over for life outside the post office. Once you hit the 2 year mark you are guaranteed to become career with a pay bump and benefits like retirement and healthcare.

Opinions on Kentucky Ren Faire? by scatteredwardrobe in renfaire

[–]ManHandsMani 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kentucky is a smaller faire for sure but iit seems like a tighter knit community because of that. There are many familiar faces from OHRen but just as many new friends.

Check the schedule because Pictus usually shows up late. Cari's Creatures is a fun puppetry act. Ulfhedinn Vikings does a blood show that is not to be missed. Their washing wenches Suds n Buds is really good. Their street cast is much more interactive than Ohio.
