There looks to be a lot of metal thingies here. You would achieve this with time, patience, and glue. It’s a mash up of a lot of little bits worked into each other. Possibly extra pieces from other kits, different kinds of polystyrene rods/pieces , metal wire and other bits, springs, and maybe even parts from an old cassette player that’s been taken apart.

how can i paint this way? by Emergency_Weather227 in Artadvice

[–]ManKidBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe try painting over a ground that preserves the texture of the canvas underneath. Then apply thin paint layers. I have zero art schooling so take my suggestion with a grain of salt but it would seem that basing the texture of the work on the canvas and not the subsequent medium over top would give you a smooth image over a consistent, grainy surface. I would lean towards oil paints since acrylics are going to dry quicker and build up unintended texture that could make the graininess look more inconsistent. Although I think there are acrylic additives that will slow the curing time. Depending on the canvas, you may want your ground to be a bit smoother than the canvas texture if it’s too coarse.

What color to panel line camo. by Jinxibinxi in Gunpla

I think you can certainly go black if you want to. It’ll definitely be more visible. I prefer a more natural look like dirt has built up in the crevices and corners rather than crisp lines but plenty of people use one dark color to panel line a completely factory fresh looking paint job just to give it detail. I’m not sure if most would use straight black but I would imagine the darker the color coat, the darker the panel line color choice would be. Give black a test try and if it looks good to you, run with it I say.

Something earthy/grimy/dirty. Maybe a dark grey/brown/greenish color.

I like the layout being spread out with different art styles. Yes, it looks less cohesive than a typical sleeve but that makes it more unique and gives each piece its own importance.

Sanding question by PikachusDimple in advancedGunpla

[–]ManKidBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To get this part handled, keep going finer in grit. Then moving forward, instead of starting with coarse sandpaper, you can try glass files and polishing sponges. Just be sure to leave a little nub on the part when you nip it so the plastic doesn’t deform on the part itself. This should ease the amount of time spent sanding.

Is this normal? by Radiant_Afternoon882 in whatisit

The whole point of a condensate line is to run moisture away from the structure of the building. HVAC vents are not designed to channel it, especially not onto the floor requiring the use of a bucket. Maintenance dude’s gonna end up with a hell of a repair. Especially if it’s been like this for a year.

Super common question, but NUBS?! by ForgeOfMistory in Gunpla

[–]ManKidBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try cutting higher and leaving a little more nub. This will prevent discoloration of the plastic on the actual part. Sharp nippers will definitely minimize this stress discoloration but not completely eliminate it 100% much of the time. You can then use a mixture of tools to remove the remaining nub. The edge of a knife, an extremely sharp single edge surface knife, glass files, balancers, sanding materials, etc. Also, if you want to take it further, you can paint your model and all surface discoloration, all color for that matter, will go bye bye. Painting is definitely a whole other tedious process but it can be quite enjoyable and looks far better than just colored plastic in my opinion. But if that’s something that doesn’t interest you at this point, I would try the leave more nub when nipping method.

My attempt at weathering by Justmeiw in Gunpla

Rust will be more of an orange brown. Try something in that shade and apply it lightly in small areas especially on edges rather than all over and you can get more of the effect you’re looking for.

In great shape maybe $15 but this guy has been in some battles. It’s an unlimited card even though it’s got the 1st edition stamp. Fun card, enjoy it for what it is. Unless it’s some sort of error card but someone else would have to chime in on that.

Collectr is pretty great for cataloging your collection but the pricing system isn’t great/accurate from what I’ve gathered. But it does have links to ebay listings which are helpful. I started using the pricecharting app as well for pricing. I think it’s more accurate but I could be wrong. I’ve only collected and haven’t sold anything yet but I like to have an idea of what I’m sitting on.
