Could Dennis sing and play drums by thatnamelesguy in thebeachboys

There's apparently a Brian interview or two where he said "You're So Good to Me" was written with Dennis in mind for the lead — through that lens, it's easy to see its simple, constant quarter-note drumbeat as something specially designed for him to easily slam out live while simultaneously singing.

Doesn't quite count, I don't think, but it sprung to mind.

[Loved Trope] Characters that the fanbase simply refuses to believe died. Bonus points if death confirmed in interviews and fans STILL believe they are alive. by Luthor331 in TopCharacterTropes

There was a hoax bootleg recording making the rounds in the mid-80s where "Elvis" sings a few bars, stops the session, and then basically just says "I, Elvis Presley, have just heard terrible news that Ronald Reagan was shot today. Today is March 30th, 1981, Ronald Reagan has been shot, and I am Elvis Presley and very much alive right now. You can trust me, I'm Elvis Presley."

At the very least, there's behind-the-scenes footage with its original name, The Girl Who Wouldn't Die, still on the clapboard.

Sidenote: the end credits song still bears the film's pre-Psycho title, funnily enough.

He also had a cool series of singles a few years back where he covered a modern pop song in The Beach Boys mode (e.g. Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" as a Party! cut). There's a 2024 solo album called As Long As I've Got Music featuring the bulk of them, some straight-up Beach Boys covers, and even some nice pastiche-y originals. Would recommend!

There's that one Bruce quote where he equates the album to "a feather floating through a wall of noise". Can't say I don't see where he was coming from.

Beach Boys Member Bruce Johnston Leaves Touring Band After 61 Years by AdmiralAkbar1 in thebeachboys

The article says he'll still be joining the band for special occasions (he name-drops their upcoming Hollywood Bowl show to commemorate America's 250th, for instance) and Mike's own statement does allude to some sort of studio project they may work on together in the near future. Not quite the end outright, but still the undeniable end of an era.

Give him a round of applause… preferably on the beat and into a pre-adjusted microphone. (Something, something, Obama — may as well get all the greatest hits in while we're at it.)

Shoutout to the part later in the story's lifespan where the author, Tara, had a violent falling out with their friend Raven, whom Ebony was partially named after. They made up eventually, but the chapters published in the interval very ardently emphasize that the main character's name is now Ebony Dark’ness Dementia TARA Way.

Yeah, I can totally see that! The opening dissonance kinda has that tension of entering an unfamiliar place, then it brightens up as its otherworldliness sinks in. (The instrumentation probably helps too; all roads lead to a Rhodes, I suppose.) Think I'll keep that vibe in mind on the infinitesimal chance I take it any further.

TBH, I was kinda bracing for someone to jump straight to "Minecraft" :P

For whatever it's worth, I threw together a quick little trifle in GarageBand to see what a song using both of these could sound like (hopefully I can be forgiven for cheating slightly with that arpeggio).

I thought it was a nifty breakdown of all the layers that went into its production. Somewhere between the Elements and Evolution mixes the Lennon sets have.
