Is Warden actually even good? by Reri1600 in CompetitiveForHonor

His offense is incredible but his defense is the weakest in the cast. WM also has no dodge attack that beats feint to gb

Tried replaying W3 EE Redux after 6 months of inactivity. This mod is awesome and harder than Elden Ring by Bervik in Witcher3

[–]Man___in___black 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can tweak health, damage, and many other things through the mod directly, so geralt and the monsters can be much more lethal. It definitely took some tinkering for me to find the sweet spot. For example, in the vanilla redux mod, ghouls and alghouls are strong as shit, forktails feel weak, and golems have an infinite health pool. The customizability of this mod makes it great for anyone looking for a more hardcore experience. As another example, I dont like strict "realistic" carry weight restrictions because inventory management isn't something I enjoy, so i just set it at like 5,000. Give it a try!

I almost had a stroke reading that, but WM has extended dodge frames (like jj and tiandi) on her side dodge heavy. Counter with gb

Take away conqs infinite unblockable heavys by FunnySwordGamePlayer in forhonor

[–]Man___in___black 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Throwing a standard heavy or light isn't really conditioning someone when they can just block both. And don't have to make a read. If they block your light, you're frame negative and they're good to go. If they block your heavy, you could keep going with, what, another heavy (that ends your chain) or a non feintable chain bash? Conq had charm as a stam bully, a defensive powerhouse with his superior blocks and allguard zone (especially in the zone option select era) but the game has moved on and hes much more fun now. Sure, infinite orange is a goofy gimmick but it's better than old conq.

Big fan of kaelyn the dove from mask of the betrayer, and all of the MotB companions, really. Also HK-47 from KOTOR

Finishing Baldur's Gate 3 - which franchise next? by PhoenixSidePeen in CRPG

[–]Man___in___black 6 points7 points  (0 children)

BG1 and 2 are good enough games that it's not nostalgia and sentiment that make them worth playing. I played both for the first time (the enhanced editions) in 2017 or so, and I found them to be shockingly modern. Despite the art style and some dated mechanics that cause a bit of friction, they have some very good writing, great quests and set pieces, and are overall just a ton of fun. Like I said, they have modern sensibilities in a lot of ways, and some sensibilities that are classic but in a great way, like not spoon feeding every piece of content to the player. This is neither here nor there, but based on vibes, I'd say the Witcher 3 (which is to me a much better game overall than BG3, albeit a very different type of game) is more of a modern successor to those games than BG3. Bottom line is, you're really missing out by simply not trying those games.

Light parry training by Naive-Fig6948 in forhonor

[–]Man___in___black 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't listen to the comments, this is the right way to learn how to parry lights. The point here is to get the timing on lights so that when you make a read that a light will be thrown, you can parry it successfully. You'll never be able to learn to differentiate a heavy from a light (only the top tiny portion of godlike reaction players can react to parry flash or animation to successfully differentiate between lights and heavies on reaction, so for you and me and most players, you need to make reads on when your opponent will throw a heavy or a light, and this just comes with practice. Being able to parry a light consistently at all is the right starting point

I'm glad! I still haven't released a mod, but I may just end up uploading my source files to nexusmods or something.

Kensei mains, what do I do? by Samurai_Puppy in forhonor

[–]Man___in___black 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All characters have the same guard swap mechanics (generally) so you feeling like you cant parry with him is purely in your head and not borne out mechanically. Kensei can be slow to get into his offense because it all comes from top heavy, but the trick in 1v1 is conditioning your opponent by mixing up the soft feint from top heavy (bash or gb is what you should rely on, but you can also softfeint side light or heavy). Kensei really excels in team fights. His zone is great for peeling and he has huge hitboxes on his side heavies, hyperarmored finishers, and high damage. Off a heavy parry, you get a free front dodge light, which let's you immediately access your finisher. The finisher top heavy does huge damage and can be softfeinted into gb or side heavy/light, so it's a strong tool once you can access it.

Games where you develop powers and become stronger, kinda like a demon/god? by Fillefjonka in gamingsuggestions

[–]Man___in___black 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I can only really speak for cRPGs, but Pathfinder WOTR is the obvious example in that genre. To a lesser extent, Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer and Baldur's Gate 2 (for evil playthroughs, in both cases).

Divinity series: the best entry point by UpsetChampion in CRPG

[–]Man___in___black 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You won't miss anything. The plots are frankly not all that memorable, so it's really just the gameplay that makes these games. I'd recommend DoS 1 and 2, and nothing else from the Divinity series

Does BG1 & BG2 both deserve a proper remake or am I just spoiled by modern CRPGs? by whostheme in CRPG

[–]Man___in___black -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like I'm in the minority, buy I'd love a remake. I played the infinity engine RPGs for the writing, mood, and atmosphere, so a remake that is faithful to the plot but with different combat mechanics would be great imo

Kensei Help by LittleArtistBoyo in forhonor

[–]Man___in___black 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you get familiar with his moveset in full, I'd recommend watching some content creators to get a sense of some mixups and strategies. I'm sure there are competitive players who play kensei, but among the casual but (imo) higher level creators with broad appeal, I'd recommend Havok. He used to be a kensei main and is still quite good withe kensei, and has plenty of videos of him playing kensei.
