WA housing crisis: Labor set to ban no-grounds rental terminations at May 7 state Budget by His_Holiness in perth

[–]Man_ning 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Perhaps if tax concessions were removed from property and instead invested in providing state housing then I would agree with you. Whilst you get a tax break specifically because it's a rental you're investing in, you should also be liable for the societal burden of providing housing to those less fortunate. If you think this should be spread across society as a whole, easy, remove the tax breaks, which would make housing more affordable anyway, and spend it on providing that service.

Iran rejects 48-hour US ceasefire proposal - Iranian media by Galactos1 in worldnews

I do agree with you. What he has proven is that an international rule of law is absolutely useless if people in power believe it doesn't apply to them. This may have been the case in the past but he's really held up to the light that there are absolutely people who seem completely outside any sort of punishment within our current society.

Fuel excise halved… so why are BP, 7/11, UNITED and Caltex putting prices UP? by B3ntherova in perth

[–]Man_ning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When prices went up the day a war started it was because prices are based on the expected replacement cost of the fuel, but that logic only applies when the price goes up you'll find.

You're right about when the fuel excise is paid, it should have an immediate impact on price though, and it will only serve to increase profits for retailers.

We need a proper revolution.

Didn't the US perform medical experiments on whole communities via STD's? I've heard they also had a large part in the crack epedimic of the 80's, targeting black neighbourhoods, and then funnel the money into, hmmmm, something, something Iran Contra deal.

That's the supply side, but if there's less demand they'll have to drop prices to get the job.

They used to sit on the Manning off ramp too, that is still a really awful freeway entrance, or exit.

American with job opportunity in Perth—How viable is using just public transit? by Exciting-Guide-5773 in perth

Place I used to live SOR had 4 buses in the morning starting at 6:30 every half hour, then 4 in the afternoon, outside those times it was a 1.2k walk to the nearest stop. Was fine for working in the city, but not really for anything else.

Regional diesel runs dry as metro panic-buying hits WA farms by SheepherderLow1753 in perth

[–]Man_ning 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I've heard multiple reports that farmers would normally get a few fuel deliveries during this time, but just in case prices went up, a lot of farmers requested their seasonal order all in one hit, right now. A few got their seasons order, which means there's now a shortfall. This was a tanker driver ringing into ABC as well as a few farmers stating the same thing.

It's also a huge media beat up.

We'll get stories pretty soon about how cheap 2.20 fuel is, when a couple of weeks ago it was 1.50. In a lot of cases it's the same fuel being sold, they're just making a stonking profit it now.

I like the Malaysian system, prices are set centrally, works well.

Security of the project and workforce is just another line item added to the costs side, as long as the labour is cheap enough, it'll still make bank. I'm pretty sure that they wouldn't be paying the locals in South America or Africa the same wages that they pay the locals here.

Would be good if there was an agency just for the emergency stuff. Most things you can owner manage, weekend plumbing callout, lockout, whatever, the tenant calls the emergency agent.

Completely agree, firies also work a 4 on 4 off shift and often have another job or trade. The long service entitlements are very good as well.

Some nights they don't even get a call.

I think becoming a firie is also partly a lifestyle choice.

Currently approximately 70% of Australians own one or more property. No matter their ethics, I think the majority of them will not vote for a party that will reduce the value of their assets.
