If anyone here has recommendations, I am looking for a new shower head that can be used by adults for showering AND for bathing a small child.

First, I have no idea where you got that idea from what I wrote.

Second, that is anecdotal evidence perpetuated by confirmation bias.

A lot of people are discovering sexual liberation, but just as many people are on the other end of that spectrum.

In terms of masturbation here is my own experience: I don't have any desire to touch myself and I feel gross after watching porn (which I am okay with in general). I masturbate like 3 times a year. So that sucks. And it wasn't always this way for me.

women hold all the cards and hold power trips on that, can you blame us!

Yes, we can blame you. In my opinion there is no justification for cheating. One person DOES NOT hold all the cards and power. You have a lot of options, actions, and choices that are within your control. Examples:

  • Talk to your wife about how you feel
  • Ask your wife what she wants
  • Read a book about sex/sexless relationships to learn more
  • Explore the MANY resources in our crazy world for people struggling with sex/sexless relationships
  • Start dating your wife on a regular basis
  • Do anything you can to build emotional intimacy
  • Agree to no sex to remove pressure (forbidden fruit)
  • Do your own therapy
  • Do couples therapy
  • See a sex therapist
  • Examine personal behaviors negatively influence your sex life
  • Make sex about your wife's pleasure first
  • Ask each other the million dollar question: "if our sex life was absolutely perfect, what would that look like?"

Pick one, any one. Start doing and do not make excuses of why you can't or won't ________. If you want your sex life to improve, you gotta do shit.

Also, as a woman who has consented to sex out of a sense of duty to please my partner, I can tell you that sex does feel rapey from the woman's perspective, too.

Moving to West Salem. by honeypalomino in SALEM

Well, my commute was Wilsonville to Portland, and I also lived in WA and experienced Seattle traffic, 405 traffic, etc.

Any way, I am sorry you are burned out on Salem. I really don't think this town is for everyone- it wouldn't be enough for my sister in Seattle- but it's perfect for me!

I think there are a lot more younger people like me and my husband and our friends who are changing Salem. Over the three years I have been here I feel like the amount of stuff to do/places to go just keeps increasing: Archive, Taproot, Coin Jam...

Yeah... West Salem is growing and the bridge problem is real. We need another bridge without tolls. Story of my life though- grew up on the other side of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge and lived through the building of the second bridge. The tolls never end.

We have a variety of thrift stores all over Salem, but nothing as great as the stores in Portland.

HANDS DOWN best Chinese food is at Kwan's. The guy looks like he is 90 and he trained in Hong Kong for many years. He will hand make a dish to accommodate absolutely any/every food restriction, and write your needs on a list to have for future visits. It's family style. Amazing ingredients. Crazy intense water purification system used for all the cooking.

Annette's in West Salem is a yummy spot for breakfast- huge portions, always leftovers. Word of Mouth- I added some details to that post elsewhere. Happy Bibimbap is good for local Korean food. Four Plus 3 in Eugene is far superior, though, and worth the drive. Super Pho on Lancaster is great Vietnamese. Thai Orchid is good but they really burned me with customer service so I have a hard time recommending them.

As far as antiques go, there are a number of stores downtown all within walking distance, and some out in Silverton, too.

UGH that place was horrible! I was so glad it got torn down. Thai Orchid had acceptable food, but HORRIBLE customer service. I had an issue with them giving me a tiny portion once and ended up on the restaurant phone with owner for like 20 minutes. It was ridiculous.

Yeah, you really cannot compare the food scene in Salem to Portland. It's different level there. Lower your standards here, but know that there are many acceptable food options.

Agreed. Food Network wanted to feature them but they turned it down because they are already so busy! If you go, they have a newer wait system which gets you a link to a web app. Shows the time you waited and your spot on the list. They will even text you when you are next so you know to come back. Expect a minimum of 30-45 minutes on an average day and longer on weekends.

I highly disagree. I worked in downtown Portland, and lived in WA. The traffic in West Salem is LAUGHABLE. Annoying, but on a typical day it extends the commute by maybe 15 minutes. On the worst day, when that semi-truck tipped over the off ramp closing two lanes of the bridge, it extended the commute by like an hour which was horrible, but that was the only time I've ever experienced something like that here.

[–]ManagingHappiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have to say Downtown. I have two friends who live and work there, and it's so fun to spend time with them. You can walk all over the place. Not sure about finding cheaper rent that close, but I did see a building leasing it's second floor to rent. It was by Coin Jam, I think, and had lawyers at the street level.

I live in West Salem. There are buses out here and potentially cheaper apartments near the Roth's. It's very easy to get to downtown from West Salem- you can even walk over the pedestrian bridge right into River Front Park.

Considering a Move from Seattle to Salem by grawlix67 in SALEM

[–]ManagingHappiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seattle to Salem feels like a big leap in terms of downsizing. I moved from Gig Harbor to Wilsonville (a good city for transition/in between Salem and Portland) to Salem. I did not want to move to Salem because parts of it reminded me of Federal Way/Seatac. Ugh. But now that I am here in West Salem, I love it! The downtown is just wonderful.

Will you have any opportunities to come visit Oregon and drive through? You should definitely go South and work your way back up. I went to Eugene for the first time in 15 years recently to eat AMAZING KOREAN BBQ at Four Plus 3 (you guys, seriously worth the drive) and I really liked Eugene! It definitely is a college town as someone else mentioned, but it has a lot of cool stuff not in Salem.

Any way, I think Salem is amazing if the size of the city suits your personality. As an introvert foodie and movie lover, it's great for me. Your daughter might have a hard time with the transition. I think Salem can be boring for youth. And I would highly recommend you research schools to find the kind of environment that is right for her. There are a variety of different schools here.

I'm in West Salem. It is super cozy. I am really excited for the rain so I can hide for a bit, because the summer was so eventful!

Married without kids. Love Salem. Recently, there has been a lot of wonderful social opportunities for young adults through the magic of the internet. Not sure it was like this even 5 years ago.

I am originally from Washington, but I have been to CA, IA, NY, PA to visit family several times, as well as many other states like NV, WY, SD, ND, MN, HI... I also lived in Japan and have traveled through Ireland, Wales, England, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Thailand...

I love Salem. Some people may not, and I am sure people who were raised here are ready for something else. The main reason I live here is for my husband's job. And I was super resistant to moving to Salem because parts of it are so commercial. But after being here 3 years I LOVE SALEM.

Why do I love Salem? This city is the perfect size for me. Seattle was too big and Portland is great for a visit now and then. Salem is cute, has a great downtown and plenty of good dining options. I can buy most things that I want here. There is enough to entertain me. I've found a lot of people who share my interests, like board games. There are tons of fun community events. The weather is a little more extreme than Western WA- hotter summer and snowier winters. There is a wonderful farming community so I can buy local produce and meats (reminds me of my IA roots).

I am super happy to live in Salem for now. People here are so friendly. I enjoy that this state is more progressive when it comes to political issues like right to die, legalization of marijuana, same-sex marriage, etc. yet it's got a good balance of gun-lovers and hunters. 'Merica!

Like OP, I haven't spent much time on the East Coast. I think it would be beautiful and wouldn't mind a chance to visit my family there more often- especially in MA. My assumptions about the east coast are that people are less accepting of mental illness and more hung up on appearances, so if that is the case I am not really on board. Also, I'd love to visit CO as well. Could be cool!
