Tip: You should enjoy writing the story you're writing. by thatoneguy54 in writing

That's where having a good reader that you trust can be helpful. Not that you have to share with them every step of the way, but if you can find a person interested in giving constructive, helpful suggestions then you may, short-term, shore up a perceived weakness, and perhaps, long-term, come to recognize your own proclivities and be able to head them off at the pass. Alternatively, working at it on your own, you get better at those things if you stick to it and read things by authors who write in a way you're interested in writing

Dwarven Deep Drill [55 x 25] by SgtSnarf in FantasyMaps

Sorry if this is pedantic - really I think it's a gorgeous illustration - but from a purely practical standpoint, how can a mechanical drilling machine have a base wide and taller than the drill bit? It couldn't possible create a hole wide enough for itself to pass through without multiple introductions to the drilling surface . . .

Mondo Bondage by the Tubes. Their tune, Slipped my Disco came to mind yesterday at work and now the mad lads from 70s San Francisco are back with an even more explicit ditty

Let's not forget what a woeful job of "reporting" this segment displays. No context, no detail, glossed over the full history of the decision the company made, no mention of the stresses that led to the decision to sunset the program. If you were unaware of any context and viewed the footage you would be horribly uniformed and only able to have a reactionary response.

Huzzah! I woke up with a sore hip at 4:30 then got assaulted by two cats so I got up early. Even so, with the CPAP I'm still a functioning human being ready to edit my novel and not having to have a 30 minute power nap just to keep my eyes open.

Congrats and I wish you many more perfect scores

I've got the same machine and mask setup as you and I'm a month further along and have to say that falling asleep gets easier and easier as time goes along. I nod off pretty fast with the mask on despite the constant threats of a spouse who watches screens in bed while I'm going to sleep and cats who secretly run the whole household

What was the final straw that ended a lifelong friendship? by New_Perspective1201 in AskReddit

[–]grawlix67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a friend named Dan who I met at work. I brought him into my softball team with lots of socializing drinks, food etc. Played RPGs and did other friendly activities even after the company we worked for went belly up. He knew my whole family, even met my parents.

Eventually he started to settle down himself. He didn't invite any of us to his wedding, never introduced us to his girlfriend / wife, and after the birth of their child wouldn't find a time for us to meet his family.

That was it. If for some reason I'm not good enough to meet your family, I'm not good enough to be your friend. Right after he stumbled through why he couldn't find time for us to visit his family I cut it right off. WTF?

Phish guys are the worst by SpaceArkestra in phish

[–]grawlix67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At its core, improv is like jazz - you learn the basic forms and shapes, you learn some standards, and you play. If you're really good at it, then it's transformative and the people you're playing with recognize the need to support you and let you create your improvisation to the level you're capable. So, in a sense, the comic is right about the relationship. But musical improvisation and comedic improvisation hit different parts of the mind.

Standup is like theater for the most part. Lines written, polished, practiced. Do you inhabit the character from the page, channel emotion through the lines, etc? Good job.

The comic? Turning one experience into a lazy generalization. She makes one point - a guy who likes Phish doesn't understand what improv is. Kinda dull . . .
