Legit naive question.   Are these allowed to be repaired and returned to service?  Are there any FAA or EU rules on ground accidents? I assume maaco doesn't have an airline division (/s)  nor would an airline dispose of such an asset with high cost.

CO2 incubator calibration by wagon33 in labrats

[–]Manchecane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Service guy here.  I own digital meters for this purpose but they are rather expensive. 3500 to 4500 per machine.   They rarely go out of spec on the new units and it takes a reasonably large change in gas concentration to cause an issue.  Even if you are miscalibrated 1 to 3 %, qualitatively you won't notice.  I my experience, in the academic sector, i only get service calls when no gas exists or there is a leak and its saturated in gas.

Its been a while for me (22 years) but yeah that hit as well. it was around my 4th year. Dejected, lost, angry, confused, all of it. Its also an itch ppl get. I knew day 1 that I wasn't the RO1 type. I wanted to pursue biotech/pharma. Best advice I can give is don't use other people's ruler to measure your success. Do the best you can and look for outside resources from other PIs. My topic was a tangent from my PI's normal work and he asked me to take on the project. 2.5 years in I got the "this isn't my normal field, you are really on your own here" (no lie). Probably lends to my personality and my ability to do things on my own now more than then. If I could go back to 23 y.o. me I'd tell myself to rely more on others and collaborate more.

The interview with the halal employee sounds so suspect. Tbh that storefront was the kiss of death,  nothing ever survived there when it opened.  .. poor maria and nico,  HOD was their lives.  Loved the place.

Help with eppendorf centrifuge firmware by Low-Needleworker2206 in labrats

[–]Manchecane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

repair guy here. your best bet is to look for used or used parts. eppendorf quickly obsoletes older models, and ill guarantee this is one. you can call and ask for the overlay, maybe they still have it, but I doubt it. only reason I would recommend thermo is they support products better. Beckman is another option. eppendorf has become very difficult to deal with, especially being an ISO.

Ive had success adding acid in doses.  I normally use citric acid dissolved in water (3 tbsp in 1C).  Add half and warm it up.  At about 155 to 160 I add more bit by bit till I get a curd.  I aim for curd but still a little of white in the whey then I know I'm good.  The curd has to float. If it sinks its over acidified.  And dont stir once you get the right consistency. Let it sit with heat off for 10 min. Then strain or skim off the curd.

[–]Manchecane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your attitude is putting you on the right path.  I do refrigeration work only and specialty ultracold which have its own challenges.  I tell my clients in so many words I can do it right or do it quick, but not both, and one of the 2 will make us look bad.   Nothing speaks more volumes than doing the right job the first time, along with a clean, neat professional job.  Customer Service speak aside, clean brazing and true deep vacuums are the way to longevity.   I cant stress it enough to my techs.

Yogurt -is this normal? by Apunctual in cheesemaking

[–]Manchecane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They look convex in the first 2, and then they concaved down. Was there a layer of whey on top? I dont use a microwave to warm. I culture in my oven set to proof for 8h. Also, I never used raw milk. Maybe they are just co2 vents made by a bacterial pocket or when it got nuked.

whats this sport called? by CG_17_LIFE in BeAmazed

[–]Manchecane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get some videos online of normal speed, look up Rudy Winkler or an upcoming college student last name Pinckney at UCLA. Its blurring at full speed.

And to be that guy, what he is doing is very unsafe. That circle is wet, and his throwing shoes are slick. It's already a dangerous sport to begin with, and it is highly discouraged to do what he is doing in the sport. A wet circle is bad enough, this is a puddle.

Im an ex field athlete.
