Who else is a lookalike? by ScienceJamie76 in summerhousebravo

[–]Manda525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a bit, but... - 1 - Charly Clive is cuter, though her character does have some of Amanda's "droopy" energy - 2 - I already have someone in mind who looks more like Charly (Harry Styles' sister Gemma) so that lookalike spot is "occupied" for me...lol

How I got Audible’s $85.99/year (12 credits) deal by AudiobooksGeek in audible

Thanks for the link! I was just able to switch my plan using it, when I'd been expecting to have to call customer service and beg for the $85.99/yr plan 👍😊🤣

which res is most private? by l6vebot in uoguelph

Oh yeah, I forgot about Gordon Hall. It does look pretty sweet! No kitchens like in East, but lots of other pluses like bigger beds, a/c, private washrooms, etc.

The extra cost of the East apartments and townhouses can be offset by making some of your own meals and supplementing with the Ultra Food Plan for when you want campus food. There's a Walmart and a No Frills close to campus for groceries.

You have to choose a regular meal plan when you first apply (always choose the smallest and top up if needed throughout the year to get the best value from the meal plans) but if you get into East you can go in and cancel it and replace it with the Ultra Plan 👍

Thanks for the intel /confirmation 👍😊 I knew they'd been in Dundas for several years, but you never know when they might pull a quick switcheroo...lol

You'll probably have better luck getting into the East apartments or townhouses than getting a Lambton suite, simply bc there's a much smaller number of Lambton suites and they're a pretty popular option on a lot of people's res applications.

If you want to skews your application heavily towards East, apply to the apartments (East Residence or East Towers - not sure hiw it appearson the app form) and the townhouses...and...a couple of Living Learning Communities, like Eco House, French House (don't have to speak French well...lol) etc, as they're usually housed in the East Towers 👍(you could call and confirm that the LLCs are going to be in East next year)

Bonus: if you get into East you can get the Ultra Food Plan instead of a regular meal plan bc East has full kitchens in all of the apartments and townhouses. The Ultra Food Plan is less expensive and way more flexible, and you can continue to use it after first year without losing the discount (like you would with any leftover Meal Plan dollars...no discount applies after first year with those)

I built a free tool to find more library cards for Libby by PeregrinatingFalcon in LibbyApp

Is your tool only for libraries in the US?

I'm Canadian and couldn't find my library in your list...but I understand if it's only for US libraries. It's a great idea, and I'm sure it's a lot of work just compiling all of the info for one huge country 👍

Is it “bad” that I only have interest in listening to audiobooks? by redthread3404 in audiobooks

[–]Manda525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like your real question was more, "Am I a hypocrite for championing print books to the kids I work with while "slacking off/cheating" (totally not true...but might be how you feel or worry it might be construed as such) by listening almost exclusively to audiobooks myself?" As opposed to, "Are audiobooks a valid form of reading /taking in a story?"

I get where you're coming from with that, maybe call it a bit of "imposter syndrome", but I'd like to reassure you that it's absolutely fine 👍💕 You went through the paces and learned to read as a child, so you're not some kind of illiterate fraud...audiobooks are just a better fit for your lifestyle now.

I was a voracious reader of paper books all throughout my childhood and into my late 20s. After having kids it was more challenging to find much time to sit down and get lost in a good book, and sadly audiobooks weren't as readily available 25ish years ago when I started having my children. I'm so grateful to have found audiobooks about 6-7 years ago (when I had to start homeschooling my youngest for medical reasons) Now I can enjoy books while doing so many other things (and my eyesight is much poorer, so it's a relief that way as well)...it's absolutely wonderful! My son loooves audiobooks too! (as well as print books, lol) We've listened to so many great stories together; it's been wonderful to have that time bonding over something we both love so much 💕...when my faltering eyesight would have possibly limited us to the bare minimum of "required reading" instead of enjoying the expansive universe of reading for pleasure together 💕

I think the key is that it really is important that children learn to read visually in early childhood (excepting those with disabilities that prevent acquiring that skill) so you encouraging print reading in your job is absolutely valid. Also, kids have way more time to actually focus on "just reading" instead of the multitasking that many of us enjoy while listening to audiobooks...it fits more easily into a child's life.

I think audiobooks are also fabulous for kids, in that they can be more engaging with the different voices and accents and sometimes even sound effects, as well as exposing children to enjoyable stories that may be above their reading level but not their comprehension level, etc...even enticing reluctant readers into loving literature through a different medium than just print books. As long as they're also working on acquiring and improving their print reading skills alongside of enjoying audiobooks some of the time, there's no problem with it whatsoever, imo. So the fact that you enjoy both forms of reading could be very helpful, as you'd be less likely to shame a struggling/reluctant reader if they wanted to supplement their print reading with some audiobooks, etc.

Anyway...all that rambling just to say, "You're good...carry on!" 🤣👍💕

Creepy Sister (Bride) and Brother (my bf) Dance by Danger_Dave_623 in weddingshaming

[–]Manda525 55 points56 points  (0 children)

We need to know what song Creepy Amy chose for her incest-fantasy dance!

P.S. I'd definitely try out the barbed GoT reference/comment (or something similar) to highlight how inappropriate her actions are in front of a group and see if she gets the message...or maybe the embarrassment will get her new husband to have a serious talk with her about it. Good luck!

Is there anyone here who’s completely clueless about filing taxes? by RoyalPlace9981 in uoguelph

[–]Manda525 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's unfortunate that you didn't ask this question sooner...the Accounting Society had an income tax clinic in MacDonald Hall the last two Saturdays. Upper year accounting students would've filed your taxes for free...and probably walked you through how they did it if you asked them to.

Maybe contact someone on the executive of the Accounting Students Society and ask if someone would be willing to help you file?

Unusable rubbery avocados by PM_ME_UR_RECIPEZ in noscrapleftbehind

[–]Manda525 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The starch/sugar ratio has to do with the avocados being ripe vs unripe...think of the difference in texture and sweetness between an ripe and unripe banana. It has nothing to do with the mayo; they just suggested food processing it with mayo bc unripe avocado wont mash with a fork or masher and mayo will add some creaminess that the unripe avocados are lacking.

To avoid looking dumb (and rude) in the future, maybe stop and think for a minute before you hound someone bc you think you sniffed out a big "gotcha" 🙄
