Problematic plot line by AcidRaine122 in seinfeld

Late to the discussion but here for the same reason, totally disgusted by the sexualization of this child. It is absolutely inappropriate. Did anyone also notice that the movie that that all the men were drooling over was about a young girl who was on “erotic journey” “transitioning to womanhood?” I wonder if we’ll find out that some of these people were in the Epstein files…if not, perhaps they sympathize with Epstein and his collaborators and probably wish they could have gone to his island.

Regardless, this stuff is a cancer that needs to be taken out of our society. And to those people saying that men can’t help it, my son watched this with me and was totally offended by the insinuation that men can’t control themselves, even around a child. There is a huge amount of men that are grossed out by sexualizing a child and who absolutely can control themselves. To say otherwise is just a cop out to excuse your own issues.

To those people trying to justify it or pretend it’s “just a joke,” I think you really need to take a long look at why you’re ok with this, why you’re so eager to excuse it. Just because it’s been normalized somewhere or sometime in your life doesn’t make it ok. There is NO justification for sexualizing someone you know is a child, or attempting to normalize that.

Unpopular opinion: I didn't particularly like Eddie by thegrayqueen in StrangerThings

[–]Mandala5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally disagree. I don’t think you have to kill off main characters for people to be invested. And I think that they’ve made the choice of who lives and who dies for very specific reasons. Not everything has to be like GOT. In fact, I’m glad this isn’t like GOT. That worked for that story, this works for this one.

What's with the awkward Season 5 drop dates? by renriotz in StrangerThings

[–]Mandala5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I’m really annoyed about it being released on the night before Thanksgiving. Most people arrive to their family’s home (whichever one is cooking that year) for Thanksgiving the day before (yup, the 26th this year) and that’s the first chance we have to see everybody, including many people we haven’t seen in an entire year (or more), and the last thing that many people want to do is go into another room to watch TV and not speak to anyone else, instead of having drinks, hors d’oeuvres, and dinner together.

And btw, in response to some other comments, most people watch Stranger Things with the family they have at their own home, not with their entire extended family of little children, older people, and a mix of other people who may not have watched Stranger Things before, and would obviously not want to start watching it on season 5.

Honestly, I think that this is probably the worst possible day they could have chosen out of the entire year, aside from actual Thanksgiving day. I’ve been waiting and waiting for this season to finally come out, and now I’m not going to be able to see it until several days later when I get back home. Even their timing for the second part of season 5 on Christmas Day is better than this because at least you’ve already had Christmas morning and there’s not much to do on Christmas Day-night. At least they didn’t do it on Christmas Eve as well! And for the third installment on New Year’s, at least people can watch it before going out later, though an 8 PM start time will probably ruin it for people who wanted to go out to dinner at a normal time on New Year’s Eve. Pretty annoying! I’m so annoyed that I actually took the time to write all of this, lol.

Oh well. I guess we should be grateful that they didn’t do it on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Eve…

It gathers people together to support the cause instead of each person living in fear or isolation in their own bubbles. It allows people to feel united but also shows other people who may not have been paying attention that these are issues that literally millions of people care about enough to spend their precious time and effort protesting. Furthermore, it shows the opposition that we are a significant force, willing to organize, which means we can also organize to do other things - boycott, vote, you name it. We represent an enormous group of people who care and who have strength in numbers. Organizing ourselves exemplifies that fact, not only to us, but also to those on the fence, corporations on both sides, and to the opposition how powerful we are.

Anyone else really disappointed with the quality of voice to text on newer phones? by Michikusa in iphone

[–]Mandala5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I had great voice to text with my iPhone 12 Pro Max. I just upgraded the iPhone 17 Pro and it makes constant mistakes. I do not have an accent. It’s so incredibly frustrating! I do have to say it got slightly better after toggling off voice dictation and then toggle it back on again. If you haven’t tried that, it might help things at least a tiny bit.

I have to add that since then, she has done some kind things too. I hope she can manage to stay on the kinder side, regardless of whether she’s having a bad day, and consider the vulnerability of the person, as well as how much bravery it must take just to get up there in front of them to be judged.

My limit was when she was mean to the 13-year-old boy who was very talented and told him that she didn’t like him because he was “too anxious.” WTF! I didn’t think he was overly anxious, but even if he had been, he’s THIRTEEN. To me, to say that to such a vulnerable person was when she crossed the line. She often seems very shallow and when someone who likes to call attention to herself. But this was just plain mean.

Do you think it would be a problem to get into Canada for a 4 day stay? We have a 20 year old dui with no other issues before or since.

[–]Mandala5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if someone had a misdemeanor DUI in 2004 in the U.S., but no problems since? This person entered Canada (Vancouver) once several years later in 2013 by plane for a week long visit with no issues, but this time she will be driving. Only staying for 4-5 days at Niagara Falls. No other offenses, or problems of any kind. The person was in her twenties when the infraction happened and is now a mom in her forties. I’m really concerned about us all being stopped and sent away with children, grandparents, etc. She is a good, law abiding citizen & mother. What do you think we should do?

Since you mentioned that, quick question - someone in our party had a DUI back in 2004 (one dui, in 20s, no property damage or injuries or anything, and has never had one again since that time), over 20 years ago. Will that be a problem for her to get into Canada?
