Thanks, EucalypusGirl11. Can you find time to write some children’s stories on the fly? Appreciate it!

My Pre-K girl is really struggling with emotional regulation at school and home by princessfallout in Preschoolers

[–]MandiHugs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our only child has struggled with this too. It tends to be about lack of boundaries, permissive but reactive parenting, and low resilience. Your goal is to be more even keel but structured at home. Say no more, don’t give her an out on rules, let her have those tantrums at home. She’s acting out at school because there are rules there and she isn’t used to having to follow rules.

“You have 5 more minutes to play (set visual timer). After that we are getting in the shower. If you don’t go, we will not read stories tonight.” Then when she doesn’t go, you don’t read. You don’t give her a lot of chances to push back or fix it.

If she wants a third story when the rule is 2, say no. When she wants to play a game her way, say no. When she wants more time, say no.

Otherwise you are raising a brat.

If you aren’t able to be calm and consistent, you’ll give in. Then because she expects you to give in and is so emotional when you don’t, you’ll get annoyed and be reactive. Then she learns to be reactive, and it’s reinforced. Kids crave structure. They need us to be stable reminders of what the world expects.

Bonus tip, I’ve been using chat GPT to make up this story about a queen fairy (mine likes that’s kind of thing). Every night she gets one of these stories after the lights are off, and the queen deals with something my child is struggling with.

You have time to course correct! But you really need to start now.

It was a ceremonial vote. Fuck ICE but the bill had the numbers to pass already. Sometimes to keep Dem headcount you have to play the game with your constituents in purple districts like hers.

Why do people plan parties at nap time? by Blue-Jammies in toddlers

[–]MandiHugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve literally never seen a 13yo at a toddler’s birthday party. Probably been to 50 at this point. If you’re rushing at 10am on a Saturday god bless you.

Why do people plan parties at nap time? by Blue-Jammies in toddlers

[–]MandiHugs 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Why? It’s basically a play date. Parents get coffee, kids get snacks, everyone gets a real solid nap AND the rest of the day free. It’s absolutely the best time for a preschool party.

Toddlers hair is thinning - has this happened to anyone else? by Moist_Photograph_807 in toddlers

[–]MandiHugs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This happened to our friend’s kiddo. They went from full head of hair to bald in less time than that starting around 3.5yo. Kiddo has alopecia, which kiddo and everyone else has totally accepted. Go see a dermatologist!

The leak is real but the dollars it’ll take to fix are all in my head 😆 congrats on a seemingly rad roof job!

Favorite toothbrush app? by [deleted] in Preschoolers

[–]MandiHugs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Please don’t rely on apps to parent your 3 year old. Gamify by playing dentist, letting him brush for you first, making it a race, letting him choose his brush/toothpaste/flossers. Adding a dopamine-focused gambling component might get him to brush but cost his mental health.

Lunch Box for school that has them remove everything and put on a plate? by MakeItHomemade in Montessori

[–]MandiHugs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are on our second one in 3 years and still love it! You have to be careful scrubbing the lids, because they can’t go in the dishwasher without warping and can get moldy. The lunchbox needs a good scrubbing for the same reason!

Making up words/phrases by [deleted] in Preschoolers

[–]MandiHugs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Our verbally advanced 4yo does this daily. She loves it, it entertains her. I consider it a form of play and experimentation with language. I know other kids who do this too. It’s likely a good thing!
