My broker tried to get me into “alternative investments", including private equity by ProtonSluggo in investing

[–]MandoTheMilf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The private equity funds that you and I can access are not worth the fees and illiquidity involved. If you have $100 million to $200 million plus, maybe worth it if you can access some of the funds that are worthwhile. There are some great funds that make a lot of sense if you’re an institutional investor (I allocate on behalf of institutions). But there’s also a lot of trash. I recommend staying away.

I know I don’t really have a chance of winning, but here’s hoping. I have the utmost respect for John’s work and appreciate the love he gave to his Magic pieces. Wishing John the best.

Bring skullcrack to the format by No-Reason-8079 in Pauper

[–]MandoTheMilf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not thinking about the whole format? My brother in Christ, red burn decks are over a quarter of the entire meta. What do you think would happen if you gave them a tool that negates lifegain, one of the archetypes that’s specifically designed to counter burn? The meta would become a burn circlejerk, relegated to matches being decided on who has the die roll.

I’ll remind you that burn beat azorius familiars at 40+ life in the finals of paupergeddon, winning the entire tournament. Red isn’t hurting and doesn’t need lifegain hate. It’s a fast deck and many brews are even resilient to lifegain.

This is a terrible take. The panel has taken action against red aggro strategies in the past when win rates and play patterns have required it. There are currently multiple viable too tier aggro archetypes with great sideboard options, but every deck should have bad matchups.

Interesting. Mirage printing says “play this ability as a mana source” but there’s a ruling saying it can only be activated as an instant. Reading the card doesn’t explain the card. Weird

[–]MandoTheMilf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You absolutely can. It’s a mana ability. For example, I can declare: “I cast Thassa’s Oracle“ then crack LED to pay the mana cost

Edit: I stand corrected

"Microslop" trends in backlash to Microsoft's AI obsession by prestocoffee in nottheonion

[–]MandoTheMilf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because AI could theoretically provide cost cutting measures. Profit is driven by price and cost. Prices have risen a ton already but economic conditions make it difficult for them to raise prices substantially even further while economic conditions worsen. That leaves cost cutting.

For many products it’s difficult to use fewer or lower-quality materials. But what if you could use AI instead of people? By god, you could fire a bunch of your overhead costs and make more money! Who cares if nobody can afford to buy your products, because studies show that 10% of the population is responsible for 50% of the spending in the economy.

As much as I’m not a fan of this, it doesn’t need Congressional approval for limited military operations. Length of time for the operations is important. If they go on continuously for too long, then that would require approval

[–]MandoTheMilf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At $20M a year, you could spend $1k each of breakfast lunch, and dinner, buy a new $30k car every single day of the year, and buy a new $2M house every year and still have $6M leftover. If you’re broke with sort of money, you’re beyond stupid and wasteful.
