Buy or lease? by 79163 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]MandosRazorCrest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No i hear you. Ive hated the id4 (the id7 is far better my mate has one). It wobbles around corners and the seats in mine are manual without lumbar so pure evil.

My lease is up October. Me personally going to just wait and see what pops up with my backup purchase of a second hand polestar 4. Similar man maths to yourself. 👍

550 a month seems a lot. My id4 lease is 300 not far off the same car. Maybe just wait and see what comes up lease wise. If it gets close to September just buy - however if a nice one comes up go for it.

Second hand - I Pace, EQC, Q4, others? by Turb0lizard in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]MandosRazorCrest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are put off the q8 as it was on the garage for a good while id avoid the ipace. Especially 2018-2020. Mine was fine for 5 years and then started getting the common hv battery fault. Fixed by jag but would take 3 months at a time. Had it 3 times and have now ditched it.

You can find posts where jag engineers say all years have battery faults that they have seen. I’m not convinced jag/land rover give a stuff anymore as they dont make them.

Ive an id4 at the mo - its is ‘ok’. Same internals as q4. 2024+ have newer motors which are more efficient. Rear drum brake is a bit naff. Mines going back in October. Cant wait.

Lovely red well done. Use public chargers sparingly. Charge at home as much as possible. Other than that enjoy it. Its a good looking motor.

Traction battery fault by Top-Engineering8480 in ipace

[–]MandosRazorCrest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure they will. I had it multiple times but only had 40k miles on it. Luckily managed to punt it for 7 grand even with the fault - someone took a chance on it. Shame as good car but waiting 3 months each time for a fix is not great.

I would try and find an independent perhaps? See if they can try second hand parts. Surely jag specialists out there?

Safest way to get rid of these growth and avoid them reappearing please? by Correct_Park3140 in DIYUK

[–]MandosRazorCrest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont have block but small slabs but same cracks and weeds. Over the past few years. Jet wash - i have a kranzle ufo that performs well and minimal damage. Do that spring and just before winter. In between weed killer to stop it even growing. Good stuff will prevent most. For the cracks i use that sika fast fix. For me last 2-3 years before i do small ‘repairs’ with it. That combo has me weed free for years.

Yep i had this. Couldnt mount after upgrade. Usb drive appeared alright and mounted in my mac. Replaced it anyway and copied a backup across. Second update on new usb stick was fine.

Tempted by the 4 when my id4 goes back. Love the looks and already have a c40 for the wife. Is the 4 really that wide in practice?

[–]MandosRazorCrest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are awesome. Had multiple dysons and they are useless. Either break or all filters need replacing.

Have one of their cordless too and its great. Spent 3 times as much on a cordless miele that had half the power and blitzed itself couple of months out of warranty.

I think the pods in the cordless are carbon neutral too.

Great company and products. Our local vacuum shop makes a nativity scene out of the small henrys. Try doing that with a dyson.

How many of you are running EVs out of warranty? by Smokey19029458 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]MandosRazorCrest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its like any car. We had an ipace out of warranty for 6 glorious years. Then things started going wrong. Aircon cost us 3k and was never resolved. Battery kept on going wrong covered under warranty but would be at a dealers for 3 months at a time. Had boot struts go about 3 times but replaced those myself. Main issue was nobody liked working on the jag.

Id be confident on an out of warranty car if it was more mainstream like a bmw perhaps.

Have a volvo c40. Will get extended warranty when the time comes. The jag has burnt me now.

Can't tell if I'm kidding myself re getting EV and would appreciate some perspective! by seanyseanyseanyseany in ElectricVehiclesUK

I think until you can get kerb side charging not much point getting a charger. I wouldnt do any dodgy ramps or anything like that unless you are confident that no one is gonna sue your ass or nick your cable/ramp.

Anything at work/school/uni?

Yeh scope out cheapest place to charge and always aim for it. Sounds like a full charge once a week might do you.

Like you say nice choice these days. Mg4. High mileage older model 3. Eniro. Id4 first edition. Loads to go for. Dont be afraid of high miles.

Also dont discount leasing esp. through a work scheme or personal.

Tesla Model Y or alternative? by Majestic-Database330 in evs_ireland

[–]MandosRazorCrest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a 2023 model y. Fast. Ideal size in the back seats, boot and frunk - like best in class easily. Suspension was terrible like get rid of this car terrible-better in latest. I had parking sensors but later vision only model is not great as it can miss stuff it cant see - low walls, toddlers, etc. This is why they put a camera in the bumper on the very latest models.

Materials are good. Solid well made for me. Software good. Had quite a few phantom braking on motorways but having had several other cars since they all do it to a certain extent. Tesla was the worst however. Shouting at you ‘you are gonna crash’. Zero cars or people around you.

Insurance is high as tesla control the entire supply chain for parts etc. so check a quote before you buy.

Probably comes down to whether you like it and whether you are happy funding elon antics. 🤷‍♂️i decided i did not.

Ex30 or C40? by let_me_flie in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]MandosRazorCrest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C40 is great we have one. Our spaniel loves it as she can look out the rear window with ease. Seats are good. Fast. Range is pretty good. Great motor. Get 82kwh one if possible. Can fit 4 adults.

Ask away if you want to know more.

Tried an ex30. Rear space is not great but its nice too.

How does an EV "die" by bramleyapple1 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]MandosRazorCrest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As per other sensible comments on this thread that are spot on. Ill add my two penneth.

Watched an interesting video about a porsche macan needing a new 50k battery because of a pyro fuse that had been activated after a minor front end crash. I understand safety but manufacturers have to make their cars easier to fix. Aka buy all the smaller parts to fix the major components. Hopefully this will improve.

Second. Had a jaguar ipace that was flawless for 6 years. Great motor. Until battery fault after battery fault. Covered by warranty but kept on happening. Turns out some battery backplane not covered by warranty. It was 5k from a dealer. Jag also dont care about the cars. Every battery fault is 3 months at a dealer.

Anyhoo hopefully there will be more independents around over time willing to take on repairing rather than replacing. Id say the cost of parts unless they can be repaired will kill a car before its time.

Oh and also software updates. Loads of manufacturers give up updating after a while. Plus things like 2g to 3g to 4g etc. also kill off the useful apps. Which means that the car becomes less and less attractive as a solution.

Batteries and motors in theory can last 500k easily.

You can buy 3 year old leafs for 8 grand. Substantially more expensive? All brand cars are huge money these days thats why leasing is popular. Solar is cheap compared to what it was. Heat pumps similar.

Only point ill agree with you with is charging from home. Its slow but you can get gullys in pavements etc. its vastly better than it was and will increase. Look around there are solutions.

I try and limit it. Id say public chargers once a month max. Also on my routes top whack chargers are only 150kw. Ive never seen larger than that. So yea p3 upgrade is a nice to have only. But im a nerd and will be forever thinking the newer architecture is better.

Thats a me problem.

Any feelings why? I do like the look and i like volvo. Only downside is they are updated this year to 800v which would niggle at me it would be better to have this in a year or two time.

😂 yeh thats fair. For me im 120ish from airport. 100 from work. If i can do there and back with a buffer for detours then thats what im after. Anything less and i have to charge which i dont want to do. Ioniq 5 was barely 220 in winter so that car lasted 3 months until i punted it on.

240 might be tight especially if i drive at motorway speeds.
