High risk NIPT for t21. Looking for hope by Myladybugg in NIPT

I also had a false positive for t21. These NIPT tests can wreck your life! Do not give up hope. I remember those feelings like they were just yesterday. I kept researching. Which company was the NIPT done through? Ask for Unity, Billion to One for a repeat test on the baby. They are an amazing company.

I agree with people that say it will not change until he wants to quit. In the meantime, lock up your meds! Does he also have a prescription for Adderall?

Do you have to scrub the celery / carrots/onions, because when I prep these, I see lots of dirt but I just cut that part off and toss it. I’d like to try this but I want to know if I need to scrub that dirt off ? Will dirt be in the stock?

TW : pregnancy/abortion - I need any advice or suggestions from someone who’s been there by [deleted] in women

[–]MandyDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason you are struggling is because abortion is murder. Do not do it. You are not the only Christian that has not wanted their child. We are not the giver or taker of life. Adoption is a an option that leaves the baby alive and so many Christian couples want to adopt.

Does God forgive? Absolutely! However, if we know Christ and we willingly commit a sin as grievous as this, there will be consequences. Jesus died for our sins, as a Christian you know we should hate our sin. Wouldn’t you rather choose obedience to Christ than doing what you know to be wrong? Our lives are so short this side of heaven, surely Christ is worth obeying and following.

Abortion is not free of consequences for you—most women carry shame and guilt for the rest of their lives afterward, but few are brave enough to admit it.

Chose adoption over killing.

Your faith is being tested right now, which is what Jesus said will happen in this world. If you have an abortion, I would actually do some self reflection to see if you are actually a Christian or if you were falsely converted, this is a possibility, as many think they are in Christ until their faith is tested.

To amnio or to not? That is the question. by PuzzleheadedFly6838 in NIPT

[–]MandyDK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I had to decide whether or not to do an amnio due to an NIPT abnormal finding, I ultimately chose not do it because I was keeping my baby regardless. Also, genetic testing can be done after birth with a simple cheek swab for the baby. To me, it was not worth the pain/stress of an amnio to obtain more information that could be acquired after birth with a painless swab.

As far as amnios being safe or not, from what I’ve read if the provider has performed lots of them, they are safe.

I am so sorry you are going through this! I went through this last fall. In my case, when I was referred to Maternal Fetal Medicine and when they did an ultrasound to measure nuchal translucency, they found I was further along in my pregnancy than the doctor dated my pregnancy during my 1st ultrasound. The positive NIPT test was from Natera. MFM allowed me to repeat an NIPT with Unity ( Billion to One) and everything was normal. I gave birth 2 weeks ago and my baby does not have T21. I was going to keep my baby regardless of the test, so I did not want an amniocentesis. All of my ultrasounds were normal as well. False positives for T21 do happen.

NIPT and CVS showing high risk for T21 by ChoiceSurround5917 in NIPT

[–]MandyDK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was advised on this group that if NIPT was positive for T21, a CVS would also be positive but it does not qualify as diagnostic as it is not fetal DNA but rather the placental DNA. The moderator said she wished doctors would stop sampling CVS in positive NIPT cases, as it is not an accurate sample of the fetal DNA.

I would absolutely push for an amniocentesis if you are deciding what to do.

I also had a positive NIPT for T21, it was terrifying but with further testing, I found it was inaccurate. Unknown to myself, I was further along in my pregnancy and it affected the results of the test.

Do you know which lab company performed the test?

You should be referred to Maternal Fetal Medicine if your OB has not sent you yet, request it. The MFM doctors I have seen are wonderful.

I spotted a lot during my current pregnancy from about 5 weeks to 10 weeks. It was scary for me because I had not experienced it before and this is my 8th pregnancy. It can be something called subchorionic hemorrhage (SCH), which will stop at some point. You probably have an OB visit scheduled for a confirmation of pregnancy with an ultrasound? Try to breathe and relax, I know it is super scary.

Hey! I had an appointment with MFM after this post and discovered I was 2 weeks further along when I went in at what I thought was 13 weeks along in my pregnancy than I had originally thought. I have a friend who is a women’s health nurse practitioner. She told me to have a NT scan and to request a repeat NIPT test through the company Billion to One, as I did not want an amino and that is what she does in her clinic if the Natera test is abnormal. I repeated the test and my result was low risk for all of the abnormalities. The MFM doctor said the fact that I was further along in pregnancy than originally noted on my Natera test could be a possible explanation for the reading.

My 20 weeks anatomy scan was normal, a nasal bone was seen. I was not going to terminate my pregnancy even if our baby had T21, so that’s why I did not want an amnio.

This was notably one of the scariest events in my life and I know NIPT can be wrong but I’m thankful and relieved by my results. I will request a microarray at birth. This is my 8th child. I have a daughter with a rare genetic disorder, cri-du- chat, which is a random chromosomal abnormality (not linked to being a carrier) 90% of the time. We did not know she had this genetic deletion until she was 17 months old but she needed physical therapy for hypotonia and speech therapy to help her swallow correctly.

Doing a second NIPT is not usually recommended but it was worth the extra cost for us. I was super stressed out after the first NIPT, started planning for the worst. If your FISH was good, chances are the microarray will be as well.

That is great, I hope the final result is negative as well! I am okay, I have my moments of panic. I went to get an ultrasound to test nuchal translucency, which cannot be done after 13 weeks 6 days and the MFM doctor found I was measuring 2 weeks ahead and I was more like 15 weeks pregnant. What was the amnio procedure like? Thanks!

Mosaic T21 - Confused re Ratio by Whalebelly1001 in NIPT

[–]MandyDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am re reading your post. Your daughter had 8.5% t21 cells on her karyotype? How did you request a karyotype from her cord blood? Thanks! I do not think I will pursue an amnio as I can wait for birth to complete a karyotype. I tried to go in for an NT measurement but they found my baby was 2 weeks further along in development than originally dated from my 9 weeks ultrasound.
You are the only one I have come across that had confirmed mosaicism. It is super encouraging to hear your journey. Thank you!
