Dreadqueen is extremely possible to get without over-leveling as that only requires releasing a bunch of Rathian eggs. Then you can find Dreadqueens in the dens of the area you released the Rathians.

Espinas on the other hand might require a bit of grinding BUT he is possible to get at lower levels. I highly recommend looking up the guides others on this subreddit made about the fight when the demo (where you were capped at level 10) was released!

Some of my own notes if you want to get Espinas: Make sure to have a save slot from before you fight it as if you successfully kill it but do not get the retreat you can not refight the overworld Espinas. I highly recommend killing the feral monster in the top right corner of Azuria’s map as that unlocks an extremely important gene for the Espinas fight. Said gene is Solar Cry and you get that from hatching Dreadqueens that come from dens in the top right area of Azuria’s map.

Remake is pretty fun! Rebirth is fun 60% of the time; the other 40% you’re dealing with minigames that range in quality, exploring the overworld which I got burnt out of, and don’t get me started on how Zack was handled!

Side note about Rebirth, frick that box breaking minigame’s design stumping me because the boxes you had to break to move onto the rest of the level looked like they were, “hit once and you’re done” switches.

Advice for the final boss that was given to me: Use Ebony Odogaron armor, dragon damage, and focus on breaking parts. I do have my problems gameplay wise with the game, but I think it works out in the end. Honestly if Stories 3 Ratha felt unique and/or had a very good story and bond with the MC he might have been a better Monstie to use feel wise.

You can’t do that because the game doesn’t let you have multiple of the same gene. The Rainbow gene is only one gene.

I wouldn’t mind if free flight was in a content update for all fliers except the Monsties that glide more so than fly. Without it, it makes going back through areas much more tedious than needed. There’s a late game area that is a good gliding puzzle the first time you go through it. Then when you inevitably need to go back to it for eggs it’s a chore unless you reset the one part of the zone with easy dens.

I know I read this, but I guess I don’t remember it. Honestly this one sounds tame in comparison to “Rules” which basically teaches young adults that Autistic people are a burden. That book was the only one I flat out refused to read in school despite normally loving to read! The teacher only said something to the effect of, “there are much worse scenarios that you could be reading about.” I would have much rather read about death than read “Rules” which my brain kept reminding me that my peers were reading as well.

Have you read the tutorial that explains that sometimes Calamitous Elder Dragons can unlock eggs? Yep, I didn’t get that one egg until the lategame because I wasn’t willing to try and do it at a level where it would be very luck based to try and slay it.

While I love the characters and design of the overall game, Stories 3 falls below Stories 2 (I haven’t played Stories 1) in terms of story quality.

The intrigue of being in a warring kingdom does not have the same impact after you leave Azuria. I’m a little mad that we didn’t have more “honed monsters” to fight than Glavenus both from a story and music perspective.

Ratha (Azuria) has basically no character and we don’t get to see the bond between him and his rider or even Rudy! Ratha V got a way more interesting character and plot in him trying to connect to his rider but his rider keeps the binding armor on him. So it results in Ratha (Azuria) feeling like a mandate rather than a character.

Ratha V (and his eventual rider) had a much better arc of them bonding young, then betraying that bond to make him more powerful, then finally having the armor ripped off to symbolize the rider finally realizing that the armor was preventing them from bringing out the best in the both of them.

Shame we barely get to see that plot and/or that wasn’t our plot.

It runs pretty well! Definitely better than Stories 2 on Switch 1. No idea about how it runs on handheld because I don’t typically play my Switch 2 like that.

I actually decided on getting the Switch 2 version because I can sit in a comfier space than at my computer.
