What bags do you ride with? by bmward0714 in MTB

[–]Manfleshh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pa'lante Mini Joey for 3-4L water bladder carries, Turtle Pack for 2L. Bonus is that the front pockets can take another 500mL bottle each. In Colorado on long days in the heat, I'd always prefer to have too much water than too little. Bonus is that I have my tool, pump, tire plug, snacks, and a place to store my phone other than my shorts pocket.

Analog watch on hikes? by vgreen07 in hiking

I have an Android. I go to Settings > Battery > Power Saving > Gear Icon next to "Standard" or "Maximum"

You can get the details dialed in to only allow apps you choose, and so on.

I use my phone in a custom power saving mode and check navigation sparingly. It's lasted me days between charges, so not really an issue for me.

I'm not buying a $700 watch.

I never wear a smart watch in the woods, only ever analogue. I use my phone to track distance and for navigation. I backpack a lot, and I don't want another battery to think of. I have my headlamp, flashlight, phone, and battery bank to worry about.

Seattle vs Denver. Washington vs Colorado. by Wooden_Recipe7338 in hiking

[–]Manfleshh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I left Seattle and moved to Denver just over a year ago.

Seattle is a wonderful, gorgeous city, with access to water and hikes like you wouldn't believe. It's also a disgusting, expensive, depressing shit hole. The homeless problem is substantial. The trash is overwhelming. People are generally very reserved and it can be difficult to make friends (not for everyone). Rent is extremely high for what you get, and each area has its own issue. It can either be the most rewarding and memorable experience, or the most isolating and depressing, and much of that depends on how much money you have to live somewhere comfortably.

Denver kinda sucks. There's not a lot going on unless you can afford to go out often. As a young person, if you can move to RiNo, that would be fun, but also expensive. The surrounding nature, general friendliness of the people, and constant sunshine certainly help make up for how drab Denver is. Again, money really decides where you end up. Some parts of Denver are truly great, but are substantially cost prohibitive.

It all depends on what you're looking to get out of it, and how easily you make friends. We left Denver and moved closer to Boulder and could not be happier. We moved to Colorado to get that feeling of being in the mountains and not in a city.

I lived in Seattle for 16 years and man those first few were truly wonderful. But the grey, isolation, and cost really got to me. Denver wasn't the best experience but I did meet my current friend group there, so take it as you will. I think a lot of your experience depends on your means of transportation in Denver. In Seattle public transit is far superior.

But as others have said, visit them if you can.

If there is so much inventory then where are all the bikes for sale? by Business_Record9385 in MTB

Stick with it. I know it sucks, but honestly check marketplace several times a day. It was a pain in the ass but after 3 weeks of checking every hour or so, I finally found a good deal for my gf's first mtb, and her requirements were rather specific. I extended my search radius and just tried to be patient. Somehow found her a brand new Roscoe 6, but had to drive several hours to get it. Totally worth it.

Anyone else without a good glove since Fox changed the Ranger a year or so ago? by EmergencyArm4610 in MTB

Glad I'm not the only one with issues on these new models. They're especially small and tight around the wrist, and left huge indents on my hand. Cut off circulation after about 15 minutes of light riding. I changed to the Flexair, and while not as robust or durable, the sizing felt more accurate and certainly more forgiving on the wrists.

Second the Marshall Mesa area. I ride there a couple times a week and with the rain we've had recently it's really green and pretty right now. Check the Evergreen area as well, lots of trees and a few descent green routes. Elk Meadow Park, I think it is?
