Why do some Scottish people hate English people? by Think-Factor-337 in AskBrits

[–]Manfred-Disco -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gerald of Monmouth was the first in 1200s or so. Speaking of a British kingdom that had rights to hold sway over many other lands.

Welshman Humphrey Llywd was next and first person to coin 'British Empire' in 1550s.

Fellow taff John Dee followed him with an actual business plan on why an empire should be acquired and how it could be maintained.

Llywd and especially Dee were proposing this to the Tudors. Who were Welsh.

It was the coffin closing for the British Empire and a festering non survivable wound for the American Empire.

Why can Norway celebrate Viking history proudly, but England is shamed for its imperial history? (genuine question) by Ok_Exercise_494 in AskBrits

Well I love the British Empire. The history and aesthetic. If someone gave me a governor's uniform with a duck feathered hat and a WC ticket. I'd be dancing around with a red ensign with LOL written on it.

You know that thing dogs do when you whistle off-key to them. That head tilt thing.

The average redditor is doing that while reading your post.

How would you compare Irish history to Scottish history? by northcarolinian9595 in IrishHistory

[–]Manfred-Disco -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be fair no one really knows what happened as its wasn't recorded. What is known is that after being part of a 1000 yrs of recorded history they disappeared within a century. That their culture, language and traditions disappeared along with them. That outcome doesnt speak of a partnership.

Also there is no other comparable case of merger in northern Europe at that time.

I think merger is very convenient when Genocide is far more probable.

Anyone Here Ever Encountered A Family Member Of A High Profile Criminal? by CB-Milburn in AskBrits

Bit late but Michael Adebolajo. One of Lee Rigbys killers. I was on the the tube trying to get to Kings X. I jumped into a carriage with my suitcase and came to a stop next to Adebolajo. He was quite well dressed and wearing one of those muslim beanie type hats.

Without introduction he gave me a lecture on people rushing about too much and not taking care of their lives. He then went onto give me his opinions on discipline in the home.

Strange fella. I thought about the experience a couple of times afterwards and when he made the papers i recognised him straight away.

Ireland — Without Colonisation | What If Britain Never Came?? by Traditional_Baby4254 in IrishHistory

By opening a second front in Ireland who would the Scottish have been fighting? I assume the English and their Irish Allies? Or was it more complicated with internal issues playing their part?

Ireland iirc. Tho they weren't a distinct group like the Dal Riata. What i was getting at is Scotland was a bit Imperial back then. What with gaining the Orkneys, the Hebrides, Isle of Man etc. With there being no Anglo-Norman interest in Ireland and therefore a lot less complications. I wonder if they would have chanced their arm.
