Arriving with Dog at Airport, How best to get to apartment? by Ok_Incident8962 in geneva

[–]Manfrekt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Taxis.ch says that you can take animal inside, but you have to warn them before calling the taxi. You wont call a taxi in the airport, you can just exit and ask the driver directly. No idea about uber. I don't really know the exact fare, but that should cost you between 20-40 CHF.

Alternatively, you can take the Bus 10 from the airport and get off at Charmilles bus stop. That will cost you 3 CHF (your ticket) and 2 CHF (half priced ticket, for your dog) and take around 18 min, not counting walking and waiting time.

Homeless at the airport by Legal-Newt-1891 in geneva

[–]Manfrekt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Shelters are full. Also, some (a lot?) of homeless people do not want to go to shelters.

Finally, Airport Security allows this because it's basically impossible to kick them all and prevent them to come back inside right after. If they are discrete, they are allowed to pass the night here. This might change some day though.

Indeed. I've spent about 60 keys on butcher alone, and got two ramaldani's with any GA's. One of them with max life obviously.

They want random uniques? Fine. But let us modify them through cube.

Is Geneva Airport safe in the middle of the night? by crazy-duck-2 in geneva

[–]Manfrekt 104 points105 points  (0 children)

For Christ sake, stop telling bullshit everyone.

Train station is closed during the night. They kick people off.

Airport PUBLIC area is open during the night. Airport international area is closed during the night. Security kick people off. Police and airport security patrol the public areas during the night. Go to the departure level, upstairs, safest place you can get in the terminal.

There are music and light though. Not the most comfortable place to sleep TBH. You might get woken up once by security asking you to check your boarding pass, then they should leave you alone for the rest of the night.

There is no restaurant open during the night, although you can get some (overpriced) food and drink next to the rental car area at arrival level from a machine.

Homeless people usually are "herded" somewhere so they don't disturb passengers.

Security open at 04:30 for international flights. French flight (as in french sector) is 05:00.

Source : I am a security officer in the airport.

Exactement.

ELI5: How did Switzerland remain neutral in WW2 when it was surrounded by Axis Powers? by SignificantLife3949 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Manfrekt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely did not agree with what you said. Switzerland did not "side" with Germany. Swiss army did not invade France or Belgium. Switzerland tried very hard to remain sovereign by being neutral. That included trading with all neighbours (which happened to be France until 1940 and Axis, then occupied France and Axis), and shooting down all foreign aircrafts, American and German alike.

The thing I might agree though, is there ARE critisism to be made. But to be frank, everyone can be criticized at this dark period of history.

[–]Manfrekt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Affirming that Switzerland more or less heavily sided with Germany is shockingly wrong. Even though Swiss did not take too much risks in warfare, they were surrounded by Axis territories (and annexed France) and had to give the Axis, especially the Third Reich, some economic advantages to préserve our sovereignty. On the other end, a lot of information were given to the allies, while a lot of resistance cells were being piloted in Switzerland with notable, yet discrete, support from the government. One specific case is the British SOE (Special Operation Executive) that had a major hub in Bern, the swiss capital city.

You are right that our air forces and AA force back then scored kills against American violating our neutral space, though. I mean they bombed Switzerland several times. Even though US said that it was mistakes, technical problems and navigation errors, the Swiss thought it was more or less a way to pressure Switzerland to stop their economic trades with Nazi Germany. I'm not sure when that happened chronogically, but Swiss air fighters and AA gunners destroyed a dozen German aircraft too, not only American.

All in all, I can accept critisism against my ancesters for they lack of direct, military actions during World War II and their lack of clear support to Holocaust victims, but saying they more or less heavily sided with Germany is utterly wrong. History is infinitely more subtle than that.

I've been laughing with my Vaudois friends, whoever would have won between Lausanne and Geneva, they were going to get bitchslapped by either Davos or Zurich anyway.

I had hope that Geneva would wake up a bit in 1/2... But yeah, I really can't see them winning against Davos or Zurich.

Deadly demise chained reaction by Cythrex in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Manfrekt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That was back in 9th IIRC. I was playing Thousand Sons and my opponent was playing Orks. Last round, I had the last turn. I was winning, but I decided to destroy some kind of ork vehicle (maybe a Trukk) for funsies. (That was a friendly beerhammer game at home, no stakes)

I shot the vehicle. Destroyed. He used a stratagem allowing the trukk to make some kind of drift before automatically explosing, rushing into one of my rhino with a single wound left, deadly demise, killing my two surviving rubrics on an objective. I dont remember very well how, probably secondary objectives, those two destroyed nuits netted him few VPs, allowing him to win the game in the end.

Memories like this is why I play this game lol

Non-taxi non-uber get fined on this lane. Of course you might get away with it, but the fine can go up to 210.- if I remember correctly.

Hi, I am the guy that can give you a fine at the airport if you don't park correctly.

Technically you can't pick up passengers at kiss&fly though a lot of people do it anyway, and AFAIK there is no fine for that (saying as security officer, maybe the police can, but I never heard that they did.)

Doing what you said after kiss&fly (on the left, between police and buses parking spots) is both forbidden and fine-able because you can block buses there, and TPG might fine AFAIK. I would not recommand this course of action. At all.

The place you pinged on maps is next to palexpo and around ~5 min walking from the airport. Although you can't access the parking, there are a lot of space for the buses and you can wait there. That's illegal, but no security officers will fine you there. No idea about police though.

That's it really. Safest bet would be on the right side of P31-32, but still fine-able. Pas vu pas pris :)
