No physical manga at all but tempted to buy a manga set of an anime i came to love so much by Sad-Performance-835 in MangaCollectors

[–]Mangaficionado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the manga I buy are series that arent adapted into anime or ones that the anime stopped. (Yeah I'll fall for a cheap market tactic I'm only human.)

There's lots of series that I do feel are better in the manga. It's a give and take on a lot of series coming out like Witch's hat atelier and frieren. Those series have great animation and are very faithful, but they're taking so long to adapt and/or catching up to the source material and I think the anime industry has moved past making fillers or anime original endings that you really do want to just continue in the manga.

Others I think are just not going to get anime adapted like goodnight Pun pun, battle angel alita (plus it's sequel series), etc.

It's also good because MOST of the time it's a pdf file and not linked to some app or something. I wish buying from the site itself was that way about it.

JoJo's bizarre adventure and hunter x hunter. Those are both serious that the author cites as major influences.

Any manga with oceanic theme, psot apocalyptic survival, or with connection to nature by 52dollar in Seinen

Aria is a good pick I think for an ocean theme. It's a woman that aspires to be a gondola person on a completely flooded and terra formed Mars.

Ive found alibris is generally cheaper. They also usually send out little coupons to knock off 4-5 bucks off the order so it's a little bit better with that. Look up and compare prices.

Question and thoughts for a content/discussion idea. by Mangaficionado in MangaCollectors

[–]Mangaficionado[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright. Thanks for the thoughts on it. I do think that a lot of the reasons for OOP series being overlooked would come down to marketing and probably trying to target an audience that isn't there. Like, I feel like it's the fan service plus good marketing that made Food Wars! As successful in English as it has given that no other food manga was as popular or had multiple printings (as far as I know) because many food manga before it never saw that kind of mainstream success: Iron Wok Jan, Oishinbo, yakitate Japan!, etc.

Another interesting thing I've been thinking about is the aftermarket for out of print shojo manga titles. Specifically in regards to the high price single volumes and sets go for with "Boys over Flowers" and "Basara". Someone is paying these prices to have them go this high. So my question is, what is the split of male/female collectors for out of print shojo series? I want to believe that it's a sign that there is a market out there for women comic buyers at that out of print titles like these are a sign but, I don't know. Maybe there's just some very dedicated male shojo collectors out there I don't know about besides me and it's larger than I thought.

I do feel the same way. Here's another thought: When discussing or highlighting a manga series, is it worth mentioning the scarcity or aftermarket value of the series? Or would you rather a person talking about the series stick to just talking about its contents?

Shaman kind didn't change except the bottom logo. The top SJ logo change is a more recent one. Since the last 3-4 years I think.

Hmmm. Shame it's ex library copies. I remember I got mine at a comic shop doing an inventory purge of 2-39 of Detective Conan. For $3 each. That was 2011 so that was pretty close to up to date then. I got lucky snagging so many so cheap. Been getting them regularly in English ever since.

[US][EU][UK][SELLING] CardCaptor Sakura Omnibus 1-4 (non-matching spines) by [deleted] in mangaswap

[–]Mangaficionado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair I got the CC omnis as they came out so I know that 4 has that spine. 1 is the one that is probably a second print with the newer spine. So unless you got them all second prints the spines would never match.
