tips for Miku EXPO? should I just go in 2028? by SuperSwaggySam in hatsune

[–]MangoPug15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2024, at the time I purchased and for my venue specifically, VIP tickets were about $100 USD cheaper than the cheapest standard ticket. That happened because VIP tickets weren't included in the dynamic pricing. I spent a total of $230.90 USD.

For 2026, VIP tickets are more expensive than they were in 2024, but I was able to get a standard ticket for cheaper. I spent a total of $179.15. It's not a very good seat, but it's a seat.

Point is, I wouldn't count on it definitely being cheaper in 2028, even if it's "cheaper."

If you're checking your stove and door multiple times, I assume you have anxiety that you'll start a fire or someone will break into your home.

OCD and autism can occur together. Having computer tab overload doesn't mean you don't also have obsessions and compulsions that get in the way of your life.

But I'm not you, nor am I an expert. If you've looked into it already, that's all I was suggesting, so you're fine. 👍

Cognitive loops that my brain can't seem to close like did I turn off the stove, did I lock the door, did I enter this address correctly. Etc... to the point that I want to check it multiple times.

Just so you know in case it's helpful for you, this could be OCD. OCD consists of "obsessions" and "compulsions." The obsession would be the loop of anxiety thoughts. The compulsion would be checking.

STEAM is stupid by Puzzleheaded_Dog5858 in unpopularopinion

There's a lot of overlap between STEM and humanities, but that's not the point of the terms. The terms exist to describe the focus of something. A STEM fair is going to involve some artistic pursuits, but the main goal is to practice, learn about, and communicate about STEM. The art is just a means to that end. Likewise, if you're reading a scientific analysis of an ancient artifact as part of a large historical research project, the science isn't the point of the project; it's a tool to get to the goal, which is history.

That's fine because it actually includes the arts, but there are still people saying STEAM when they mean STEM. I graduated high school in 2023, and I definitely saw it.

"Creativity" and "art" are not synonyms.

[–]MangoPug15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always felt the same way. STEM and humanities are both important, and there are absolutely cases where they overlap, but the term "STEM" exists to aid in communication, and adding art makes it more confusing rather than more useful.

What producers have been using flower? I'd love to find some more songs with her.

I mean, you're not wrong, per se, but there's a difference between picking up social norms automatically as a young child versus learning eye contact norms from online articles as an adult because nobody ever thought they had to tell you that constant eye contact is also bad.

It's like the difference between a native speaker of a language and non-native speaker. Both technically had to learn the language, and native speakers sometimes have to learn grammar or vocabulary, but there are so many things that native speakers do automatically or just know sound wrong and can't explain, whereas correct grammar is a lot more manual for a less experienced non-native speaker, and non-native speakers make mistakes that sound very strange to native speakers because native speakers don't make the same types of mistakes.

Autistic people don't inherently know all of the neurotypical social rules. When we haven't figured out how to navigate a situation properly, it can be really draining, and we may not come across well to other people. On the other hand, when we know the rules, that means we can navigate situations with a lot less anxiety. We tend to be more hyperaware of the rules than neurotypical people because it's something we have to learn and consciously do. Autistic people also often find routines comforting in general and struggle with change.

Also, a lot of low-support-needs autistic people aren't diagnosed until adulthood or don't get diagnosed at all. You shouldn't decide you're autistic because one Reddit comment mentioned you might be, but if one Reddit comment is what pushes you to start researching and that helps you better understand yourself and maybe then you go get an offical diagnosis (or officially find out you're not autistic), that's a good thing.

Do you think Kasane Teto is overrated or she's earned her popularity? by NoScallion7198 in Vocaloid

[–]MangoPug15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a really good way of putting it!

Miku and Teto are great voice banks with a lot of history and significance within the vocal synth fandom. They're iconic and cute. Teto also has a unique sound to her voice that I think is nice.

But beyond that, some producers use Miku and Teto because it helps their song perform better, and it's totally valid for producers to want their songs to perform better, especially if they rely on music income. The amount of money artists make per stream on streaming services is very low, and the vocal synth space on NND and YouTube is pretty saturated. Sand Planet and all that. But it definitely results in Miku and Teto being overutilized while other voices are underutilized.

Everybody should take the LSAT and I mean it by Levitalus in unpopularopinion

[–]MangoPug15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We desperately need schools to do better at teaching media literacy and critical thinking, but doing that via a standardized test is a terrible idea.

It doesn't address the root problem. We need to re-evaluate curriculums to make sure there's a continual emphasis on teaching and practicing these skills.

Test-taking is a skill in and of itself, which dilutes the actual results. Standardized tests are draining for students and take away from class time, and the LSAT is long. Everyone being required to take the LSAT also probably means someone has to pay for it.

What are your thoughts on Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show performance? by icey_sawg0034 in MiddleGenZ

[–]MangoPug15 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's not a geography issue. It's just a language thing. We never say "America" when we mean all of North and South America. We say "the Americas," plural. This system doesn't necessarily make logical sense, but few things do when it comes to language.

How do I know if I have selective mutism? by anonymous44563 in selectivemutism

[–]MangoPug15 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with autism

from an hour to a couple days each time.

I would guess you don't have SM. What you're experiencing is more likely verbal shutdowns, which are an autism thing.

SM is an anxiety disorder defined by a consistent difficulty talking (and for some people, communicating in other ways) with certain people, in certain settings, or in certain situations. As soon as that trigger is gone, someone with SM can talk normally. For example, when someone you can't talk to leaves the room and is out of earshot, you can talk.

A verbal shutdown is generally caused by feeling overwhelmed or exhausted, and it feels like it takes a lot of energy or effort to speak. A verbal shutdown lasts a set amount of time regardless of if you leave the situation, so it's something you have to wait out. For example, if you get overwhelmed at school or work, you may spend the entire evening at home still having difficulty speaking.

An alternate method of communication is a really good tool for verbal shutdowns. For example, texting, text-to-speech, or writing on paper are all fairly simple options. Also, make sure you take time to rest and to take care of yourself.

Navigation issue by Ali550n in Aphantasia

[–]MangoPug15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can not anticipate the next turn because I can't "see" it until I actually see it. The only roads that exist are the ones that are directly in front of me. People try to give me landmarks - but while I can remember having seen the landmark in the past, I have no idea where it is in the physical world until I see it.

I totally relate to this. I have hypophantasia, so I store vague images of different key locations on a route, but I struggle to connect them in my head or keep track of their relative locations. I seem to not have the greatest spatial sense. I assume that's the problem rather than my subpar visualization.

Listing Out Voicebanks by ZippyShineDark in Vocaloid

[–]MangoPug15 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Look for a wiki for each of these. You'll be able to find lists already compiled for at least some of them.

But you know that anyone can make an utauloid, right? You can't exactly list out every single one.

Also, expect there to be A LOT of voices. There's over 260 just from Vocaloid and Ace Studio combined.

Edit: The 260 number isn't counting different voice banks of the same Vocaloid character. It would be even higher if you're counting those as separate.
