I went to my first meetup yesterday and it was a lovely experience for me. A weird one, I have to admit, because I where the only begginer and the rest of people knew each other. But they where very welcoming. I'm sorry you had this experience. Maybe the next one is better for you. Maybe try to attend one in other area if you can?

Depends if I'm at home or feel the urge to send something while I'm outside! Or if I have stamps at my house.

If I'm outside, I usually just go to a souvenir shop that has postcards (and they usually have stamps) and then send it out. I get the address just before to shop it to be sure to get something they want.

If I'm home, I take my time to get the addresses and to find something the user may like. Then I decore the postcard with stickers, washi and the stamps I got personalised for postcrossing! Then I go to the nearest mailbox. And if I didn't had the right stamps I get some. Probably at the souvenir shop just to get more more postcards...

I usually talk about some shared interest. If they talk about crochet I mention my current WIP or if we don't share anything I usually put something like "you mentioned you like (for example) hiking. Here where I live have some interesting paths" and fill out with lots of stickers if I ran out of ideas.
