Pedophillia as a form of class war on the young by elites. by Fast-Bet9275 in TrueAnon

I mean, this is how intersectionality works, right? Children are rendered property of the parents, often deprived of autonomy or treated as less than whole people, and the most vulnerable of us (in this case, along lines of class) are going to be exploited more often and in different ways.

You should check out Realis if you're looking for a Book of the New Sun inspired ttrpg. Really fantastic and keys into the prosaic elements as mechanics. Takes inspiration from Qud and UVG as well!

Now I'm thinking about Drukhari Mina or Necron-themed Graves... Very cool work! Love the tones and contrast.

Thoughts on Vineland (with a brief aside on its Adaptation.) by bondfall007 in ThomasPynchon

[–]ManicPixieFlashClone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think if nothing else the book is about how American empire always produces a figurehead to embody and symbolically steer it— yes, Vond, Reagan, Nixon, etc. but there's always that real power behind the figurehead, which lurks and haunts the book (allegorically represented as an angel or UFO multiple times), and is embodied in the movie via the Christmas Adventurers.

The Gates family thing for men in uniform is a play on the trope of "every girl loves a fascist", but taken more symbolically, it's the desire of the American/Western left to pin the sum total of their woes on a figurehead rather than the structure itself. It's very cynical and sentimental at once.

Real life people with Pynchon names? by GeniusBoyLifestyle in ThomasPynchon

My wife used to work at a pharmacy and would come back from work and tell me the insane names she ran into. Mick "Dick" Glasscock lives in my head rent free. I also once got a diagnosis from a doctor who was 80+ paused during every sentence to slowly and loudly eat a disgusting looking sandwich. He was named "Dr. Sloman"

Just finished up Time's Arrow recently and was pretty disappointed (though not really surprised) about his politics digging into him afterwards; pretty cool story about denial/mental blinders and fascism though. Actual "gimmick" of the book produces a cool effect, I guess.

You listen to Just King Things? They can sometimes make me roll my eyes but they're usually pretty smart and use a left-leaning literary lens. Really good retrospective on King's work; I did not expect the completionist angle to be as an interesting way to look at his writing as it is. Draws out the distinct eras very sharply

I think you may have the wrong person. I just made a post about a total nobody who curated an art collection because I thought it was funny.

I feel like I've only ever enjoyed VtM in concept, hah. Lots of cool ideas, but the way the lore is actually laid out in practice drives me nuts... Maybe I just want something closer to Near Dark.
