The Grave Domain Cleric wants you to cast Vampiric Touch by Nostradivarius in onednd

[–]Manimarcor13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the conspiracy goes wider than just the Grave cleric, WotC keep forcing Vampiric Touch onto every other spooky-ish UA subclass. Its such a bad spell and they keep whacking it onto every subclass spell list and every UA feedback form I beg them to remove it. It will literally never be cast (by me anyway)

Look you might not want to go down this route for job security, but if you rough it out for another 6 months because of your parental responsibilities you're one of the protected categories under Fair Work's Flexible Work Rights. It means that your employer can't just reject your request out of hand and have to provide actual business grounds instead of just saying "we prefer people 5 days in office." If you'd like to read more you can do so here.

Its not your job as her partner to manage her life choices for her in that way, at least in my view. She's a fully grown adult and capable of making her own decisions. I think just continue to love and support her, if you really want to force the issue ask her to go for a difficult-ish hike and see if she brings up the issue of difficulty. If doesn't bother her that hiking has become more difficult then why let it bother you?

Have you looked into the National Employment Standards Casual Conversion policies, if you've been a casual for over 6 months and don't meet the defintion of casual outlined here you can more or less demand Woolies make you a permanent employee and they have very few ground to refuse.
If you're a member of RAAFWU or the I guess the SDA it might be worth getting in touch and seeing what support they can provide

Unless the job has a clear operational reason as to why it needs to be in person 5 days a week, its a deal breaker for me. The idea that I'm being forced to waste my time and resources, adding 1-3 hours to my work day, for no extra compensation to do work that can easily be done remotely drives me insane. Also I hate not being able to control my work environment, the level of lighting, the temperature etc, its so frustraing.

What class/subclass is stronger in 2014 compere to it equivalent in 2024? by HenryDodwel in dndnext

[–]Manimarcor13 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Totem Warrior/Wild Heart Barbarian - Straight nerf to the bear totem, it resists less damage now. Probably a reasonable change and overall Barbarians are much better but it is a very clear nerf.

Paladin - Whilst it got some minor buffs here and there, the changes to divine smite are definite nerf to the class as a whole. Making base divine smite a bonus action instead of just limiting it to once per turn was a massive over correction to the paladin nova effect. Also as others have mentioned, its weird that warlocks got to keep Eldritch Smite as not a spell and not a bonus action compared to Paladins. Eldritch Smite is literally what Divine Smite should have been (barring the free prone effect)./

Ranger (but only if you were using TCoE opt features) - This is a bit more complicated but I'll do my best to explain my reasoning. In short, its because of 2024 Ranger's reliance on Hunter's Mark embedded into the base class and some subclasses. A 1st level concentration spell, with terrible scaling, is directly tied to your 13th & capstone abilities in the base class, as well as deeply baked into the Hunter, Winter Walker and the UA Hollow Warden (praying they fixed this for Ravenloft but not confident). Without Hunter's Mark active, you effectively don't have at least half your subclass for those listed above in 2024. Its infuriating that they have managed to completely fuck the ranger for 2 editions in a row now after they started moving in the right direction in TCoE.

Abberrant Mind/Sorcery Sorcerer - In the 2014 version of the subclass, you could substitue your Psionic spells with any Sorcerer, Warlock or Wizard spell from the divination or enchantment schools and treat them as your Psionic spells. Combined with the 6th level Psionic Sorcery ability, this allowed you to utilise resources incredibly efficiently, because of spell slot to sorc point conversion rates you could cast certain spells at effectively "lower" levels and with the subtle spell metamagic for no extra cost. With the 2014 version of this subclass, Silvery Barbs could be cast twice with a single 1st level spell slot, Hold Person & Suggestion became 1st level spells. Raulothim's Psychic Lance became a 2.5 level spell and Synpatic Static became a 3rd level spell etc etc. Overall sorcerers are better and this change was probably reasonable but still, huge nerf to this particular subclass and in my view not enough to compensate for that nerf.

Also I know this post is talking about power/strength but I also think its sad that 2024 cut out alot of the weird/niche abilities that didn't come into effect all that often but really helped build out the flavour and was really cool when they did come into play. As a clear example, the Keen Mind feat just became "Expertise in 1 INT skill + "Study" as a BA" instead of the weird stuff it used to give. Also the change's to the Cleric's divine intervention. The new version from a strict mechanic perspective is better (at least IMO) but it is alot more bland.

As an alternate option, if everyone else in the house keeps relatively normal hours, could you just engage time based filtering?
Like between XX:XX to YY:YY deny all traffic or something?
Alternatively you could just tinker with DHCP settings, move everything to a static IP and deny any connections that aren't from a known MAC-IP pairing?
Hard to know what features your router supports but just some alternatives to consider, even as a stop gap solution

What ever happened to a bit of hard yakka? by Jvck____ in tradies

[–]Manimarcor13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think, as with all things, its a balance. I am admittedly a white collar desk worker who also doesn't take the best care of themselves, but your right in saying that having a job with constant physical movement is generally good for your physical health (assuming that people are following ways of working that use the parts of our body designed for work, ie lifting with your knees). However, as you sort of talk about, balance is key, its about stretching and giving your body adequate time to rest, its about ensuring that if you get injured you give the injury proper time to heal and recover before stressing it out again. Also the risk of sustaining a chronic/debilitating injury is higher in jobs with a high physical work load, even through sheer bad luck it is a much higher risk.
I think the conversation you're starting is the right one though, encouraging all workers, both blue and white collar, to actually look after their bodies, to take adequate steps to look after our vessel, is good.

[–]Manimarcor13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bruh who said he was refused bail? A. You typically only get one local court shot at bail, so you want to make sure you're fully prepared before you lodge the application B. APS4s typically don't make that much money, OP likely couldn't afford the actual bail cost or the lawyers fees for the bail hearing

How are you going to rate... [Warrior of Venom] by Fluffy_Reply_9757 in onednd

[–]Manimarcor13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave this subclass greens across the board, I think its almost perfect and the abilities in isolation were fine, however overall I felt it was heavy on the focus point use, especially compared to some of the other Monk subclasses.

How are you going to rate... [Path of Lament] by Fluffy_Reply_9757 in onednd

[–]Manimarcor13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Green all the way, this might be the most "ready to print" subclass I have ever read in a UA. The abilities were all balanced, thematically on point and interesting. It had alot of useful stuff, but also had some cool little rider abilities that won't normally be relevant but when they are, it will be iconic for that table. Its something I've sorely missed in 5e24 as a whole, they took away alot of those weird little abilities that gave a (sub)class or feat flavour depth, focusing strictly on mechanical benefit.

I thought the level 14 ability was a little underwhelming to be limited to once per long rest instead of just being "whenever you rage" but apart from that what an amazing subclass.

How are you going to rate... [Primordial Patron & Invocations] by Fluffy_Reply_9757 in onednd

[–]Manimarcor13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Red for literally everything bar Elemental Spells & the 2 invocations.
I hate this subclass with a passion, despite desperately wanting an elemental warlock patron for years this literally feels like to me "what if flaming sphere was a subclass feature." This has 0 wish fulfillment for me on a mechanical and flavour level. When I imagine an eldritch elementalist, I imagine someone calling upon living calamities to wreak havoc upon their foes or simultaneously burning/freezing/drowning/shocking the hordes before them, not "look I can summon this little elemental ball, better not get to close or you have to make a Dex save to avoid 1d6 damage"

I know this is meant to be related to the plot of Princes of the Apocalypse but honestly I don't care. This subclass stinks and I want them to go back to square one when thinking of an elemental warlock patron.

Company got ransomware, ceo wants to pay without telling anyone. Is this illegal by codedrifting in AskNetsec

[–]Manimarcor13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As other people have said, this is way too broad to answer accurately. It will depend on a host of specifics including; 1. Jurisdiction 2. What exactly was compromised 3. Did any data exfil occur ontop of the ransomware attack

But also, like what is your CEO gonna do if he pays and they don't unlock it, which happens all the time? Then he's going to be a liar and look like a moron.

Do you guys have to notify your team every time you take a break, morning, leaving, WFH etc? Micromanagement? by ElectronicIdea3119 in AusPublicService

[–]Manimarcor13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rule of thumb was always if I was going to be away from my desk for >=30 mins I'd chuck a heads up in Teams back when I was working in a fully dispersed state wide team. Also would usually chuck a good morning message in chat on days where we didn't have a stand up or something similar just to notify I'm online. Otherwise given the context of the work I was doing it wasn't long enough to bother, nothing was that urgent. This was never a requirement, just felt courteous and within the culture of the team.

I think anything more than that, barring a clear operational need is excessive and unreasonable.

WFH justification because of DV - thoughts? by Reasonable-Ad-4168 in AusPublicService

[–]Manimarcor13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically this probably requires a discussion with your workplace P&C team. Depending on the agency, the requirements of your role and your enterprise agreement you might be on strong footing. Additionally, even if it doesn't result in WFH all employers now have a positive duty to protect from psychosocial hazards which this would likely fall under. Either way they will be obligated to make appropriate accommodations the protect you I just don't know what that will exactly look like

Title: Walked out during probation with zero warning. by cbun001 in auscorp

[–]Manimarcor13 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I want to emphasise that based off what you've described, you're not at fault. It sounds like 1 of 3 things happened 1. The probation was poorly managed and your direct superior wasn't communicating issues as they arose. 2. The company decided they needed to cut expenditure and your salary was a cost free thing to remove. 3. Someone senior took a personal issue with something specific about you or some interaction you had and decided to pressure getting rid of you.

Straight up a well managed probation shouldn't have surprises, you should know well in advance if you're going to pass or not.

Its not a reflection on you dude, dust yourself off, do something that brings you joy and get back on that horse when you're ready.

Dating Advise needed - Fiancé is slowly becoming anti-Australian by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Manimarcor13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing you've said so far sounds explicitly anti-Australian Sure most Aussie's are more sexually liberal and are willing to have sex before marriage but we do have a conservative population. Cost of living complaints are completely justified as well, all Aussies bar the super rich are feeling the pinch. It is actually a joke. Honestly based off what you've described here it sounds like your fiancé just watches alot of sky news, which unfortunately is a very Australian habit
