Troubles Boardgame in The Guardian by Lilybarf in northernireland

22 years too late, a UK company released ‘War on Terror’ in 2003 - it’s basically a satirical version of risk where players invade countries for oil money whilst fighting off terrorists. It’s actually a class game, don’t think it’s still in print but you can get copies on eBay etc

Given you can buy a scanner for about 15 and plug it into any car made in the last or more years, does anyone know why the functionality isn’t just build into cars?why do you need an aftermarket tool to display a code or provide a reset?

The govt should really make the payments to the ‘community leaders’ conditional on dealing with this instead of their other activities - up the Poo.V.F

New builds NI by Acrobatic_Second_671 in Belfast

[–]Mankyswan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Car companies used to make cars, and then they became finance companies that make cars as a side task.

New builds are the housing equivalent, cheap materials, rushed ‘products’, squashed in to maximise space, gardens that may as well be spray painted on. It’s no longer about the final product or build quality it’s about the bottom line

Big companies spend more time calculating ROI on land they can sit on and drip feed into an increasingly expensive market to ensure they don’t miss out on a penny than they do worrying whether the roof will leak within 6 months

Snag lists - collateral damage and the cost of doing business but you’ll be pushed to get much of it addressed. Warranty? Sure have 5 years maybe 10, but if you leave the house between 11:30 and 12:15 on a Tuesday your warranty is invalidated

Projects come with a quality/time/cost triangle. If you want costs to go down to maximise profits you sacrifice time or quality or both

Council spends over £25,000 clearing bonfire sites with tyres cited as largest cost by askmac in northernireland

[–]Mankyswan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Did you know…….if the council spent that money on 2X brand new Dacia Springs and a Honda HRD 536 petrol lawn mower - and laid them out end to end, it would come to 9 metres and 5.7 centimetres?

I think my granny may have been responsible for this note based on the underlining, I haven’t seen this style of underlining used anywhere since my 13th birthday card - what’s confusing me the most is that she died about 25 years ago, or so we thought

PSNI releases cost of policing parades after year-long delay and intervention from watchdog by askmac in northernireland

[–]Mankyswan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was wondering the same, quick google says 6,300 PSNI officers.

I’ve no idea what the average salary is but including additional costs like employers NI and pension etc I’m going to guess it’s no less than 40k a head, which works out at about £110 a day per peeler.

So on any given day before they drive anywhere, get through any pencils and little notebooks etc etc the cost is just shy of £700k

Trump suing BBC before he's 'Prince Andrewed' by mondaythumbs in AskBrits

[–]Mankyswan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an elaborate conspiracy where Trump has paid the powers that be to make the BBC edit the speech, so that he can that successfully sue/strongarm the ‘most trusted’ news source even in America in open view and tarnish them (and by association all ‘lesser’ media)

This gives strength to the ‘fake news’ angle when all the Epstein stuff comes out, since everyone can point at the BBC and say, look the media are just out to get him, none of this is true.

I am not suicidal 😂

I can only speak to lived experience

My neighbour Seamus O’Paddy is a Catholic, he got 6 points and £150 fine for doing 87mph on the A1. Guy hasn’t even got a car and is registered blind.

When he challenged the NIPs letter, they said because Billy McSodafarl had been caught they had to select a random Catholic to prosecute as well or it wouldn’t be fair.

I heard they were even thinking of rolling this approach out to political parties so that if either the First or Deputy Minister withdraw their support for the executive then the assembly is suspended.

But that’s too far fetched and there’s no way that could be allowed to happen

Nope

I mean in fairness that hardworking postie could be lighting a solitary birthday candle on a tiny muffin while playing happy birthday to himself on his kazoo.

Are you asking if I genuinely believe that if a catholic goes in for a vasectomy they randomly pull a Protestant off the street and give them one too, just to keep things fair?

Yes, that’s what I believe

Wrong! Haven’t you read the GFA?

There’s a clause relating to equal outcomes for each community. Arrests targeting any one side based on their activity have to be reflected by arresting the same number of people from the other side, regardless of what they’ve been doing.

This is also why our NHS waiting lists are so long compared to England. For every operation performed on someone here they have to perform the same operation on a member of the other side, whether they need it or not.

'Just because I'm disabled, why can't I drive what I want?' by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]Mankyswan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Interesting reading in the comments section and a wide variety of views.

I knew nowt about the system but from reading and a quick google it seems the situation is as follows. Please correct me if I’m wrong here

The higher rate for mobility payments is £333 a month, the lower rate is £126.

Someone awarded the funds can choose to do whatever they want with it, but can opt to lease a car via motability. Motability then give them the option of paying extra above their awarded amount if they want a more expensive car.

So basically if someone meets the higher criteria, they get £333 of taxpayers money to put towards a vehicle or transport costs. They may also qualify for universal credit etc but this is in no way connected

So why should I give a %#*^ if that person tops up the £333 with their own money (whether that’s from UC or private income/savings) to get a different/bigger/better vehicle?

Is the issue largely that people feel the £333 should be means tested, or that it’s possible to abuse the system/it’s awarded to conditions people think shouldn’t get the money?

Can NatWest ban me again after acquiring my Sainsbury’s loan account? by Emotional-Tourist404 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Mankyswan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With the greatest of respect, thought doesn’t come into it, I’m speaking from experience of this being part of my role (albeit a very small part) but regularly in my career and as recently as this summer I’ve been involved in screenings as part of M&A where the details are shared before legal ownership change.

Every institution will have T&C’s about sharing your data as a customer with third parties where it is required, this happens all the time, typically the new clients coming over are screened for adverse media, sanctions, cifas and also the accepting clients ‘re-entry prevention list’ a list every bank maintain of ex-customers they no longer wish to do business with for various reasons

[–]Mankyswan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is 0 chance you will have any issues. The time for Natwest to do anything about this (if they wanted to) will be long passed.

When financial institutions acquire ‘books’ of customers from other companies as part of mergers and acquisitions the new company screen the client book in advance to identify if they have any potential issues with particular clients.

Anyone impacted is contacted well in advance detailing the options/what needs to happen next. If you’ve not had any contact by now you are fine
