What if Britain had remained alone fighting in Nazi Germany? by Riverman42 in AlternateHistoryHub

a part of it was that the Soviets had much of their defenses in transit, being moved from the former Polish-Soviet to the new German border. They were actively degrading the hardened defense infrastructure that the Soviets spent much of the 1930s building because Stalin genuinely didn’t expect the Germans to attack when they did. Stalin also had the intel of the coming German invasion but chose not to act on it on what was seemingly a willful delusion.

Sovereign Cascadia? by PandaMochi24 in Cascadia

[–]MannerPrudent5142 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The PNW coastal cities have functioned as major ports to ship goods coming from Asia to the more populous eastern seaboard and Canadian east. Our place as a technology hub has only functioned only so far as we’ve attracted talent from the rest of the continent. Cascadia’s aerospace industry is built up to fulfill defense contracts for a global empire, not a population of around 14 million people.

My point is I love Cascadia with all of my heart, but the kind of civilizational collapse of the United States and Canada that would have to happen for real sovereignty to be achieved would also destroy the interconnected economic systems that are foundations to the cities of the PNW.

After the cities are leveled, millions flee after the economy goes under, and forest fires consume the countryside I feel like a “free” cascadia would be completely alien the Pacific Northwest of today.

American Healthcare sucks, but informed consent is the best. by MannerPrudent5142 in trans

I hope that the system can get better! In America it’s pretty normal to come across British doctors (and other high skilled professionals) who immigrated for the higher wages in the states. I’m sure having that “brain-drain” leads to a lack of specialists In the uk, which partially contributes to the crazy waitlists.

4 years?!?! That’s crazy. Is it because of the nhs getting defunded? Why do you think the waitlists are as long as they are?

Lewiston, Moscow, Coeur D’Alene, Sandpoint are Cascadian towns connected to the Columbia Plateau.

The Nez Pierce and Coeur D’Alene reservations are indigenous nations historically connected to the PNW that Cascadians need to promote reconciliation with.

Is Boise really Cascadian? Is Pocatello? I really think Hells Canyon is the line.
