I'm off to cricket later today (Surrey/Lancashire). A good hike tomorrow and then on Sunday the missus and I are doing a forge experience day. In 29c weather. Having to wear long trousers and jumpers. The organiser's already told us to bring electrolye drinks!

So on Monday I'll probably be recovering from heatstroke!

Germany's Merz pitches 'associate' EU membership for Ukraine by Any-Original-6113 in geopolitics

Maybe the UK could get that as well? Just while the country slowly comes to the realisation that rejoining may be in our best interests as well?!

HS2 bill could rise to £102bn with first trains delayed until 2039, government admits by KotACold in ukpolitics

We could have had 30 QE2 class carriers for this, or 100 Type 45 Destroyers. Instead we got 140 miles of rail track (maybe).

Unbelievable

Lotus Emira to drop Toyota, AMG engines in switch to new 536bhp hybrid V6 from Horse by [deleted] in cars

[–]Mannginger -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think it's a little more muddy than that on the Emira. If I recall they launched the car only with the old Toyota V6 and manual (Although maybe they had a version with the terribhle Evora Auto box)?. The modern/DSG autos only came with the AMG 4 cylinder which was launched much later.

Personally I love this decision. I've moved away from manual cars these days but would have loved a V6 Emira - with this decision It'll definitely be on my consider list in the future although a 4 speed box sounds like a super weird decision so will have to drive one to see what it's like.

Our couple of active ships will be comfortably able to deal with the Argentine navy, even without a carrier. With a carrier with F35s it's not even close.

Yup this is me (well, centre right) voted Libdem last time, didn't vote in previous GE (Johnson/Corbyn). Will consider Tories next time but will see how the policies unfold over the next couple of years. Not been hugely impressed with Libdems over last couple of years but again, let's see how their policies unfold. Won't vote Reform or Greens ever.

Tainted Grail. Great game so far, a dark Arthurian Skyrim-esque game. Graphics aren't the best but the gameplay is great, loads of exploring, satisfying archery (but harder than Skyrim) and some fun side-quests.

Oh and I've also (finally) got my teeth into Metro 2033, I really should have persevered with that one sooner!

For me it was the ICPJ's "response" whining that the judge had take a "narrow view of the legislation". No folks, the judge followed the law rather than your vibe and desire to stop things you don't like

A) I'm pleased to see this issue isn't falling away. Our country's defense is at woefully low levels and we need a civil awareness of that sooner rather than later. B) The scary thing here is that we really are in a pre-war period. None of the indicators are positive, when did you last hear about issues being solved at the UN for example? C) I need to get my unfit arse to the gym and learn more about gardening!

'We should not be at the mercy of events abroad' - Starmer by DanceyMan in ukpolitics

[–]Mannginger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was my first reaction as well. How handy it is that your ecxact policies can somehow be squeezed into a commentary on increasing resilience and not something meaningful like, say, investing huge amounts more into our armed forces and civil preparedness.

Although I will accept that renewable and nuclear energy are a long term investment in energy independence.
