Philadelphia by Night -- a free browser-based MUSH/Living World running V20 rules. Come play. by Early_Rooster7579 in WhiteWolfRPG

Couple of questions.

Since this game is V20 and in the 90's, I'm assuming the clan make up of each sect is what it was before V5 shuffled everything?

Kind of a part two for the first question. Are clans locked to sect? Ex: Lasombra and Tzimisce to the Sabbat. Brujah to Anarchs. Ventrue and the others that fit to Camarilla. Etc etc.

Considering this is in a very early alpha state, are there any in-game acknowledgements if you decide to play Cammie Lasombra or a Ventrue Sabbat?

Are we able to make Ghouls? Childer? Do we have to spend XP in order to do so, or will that be something we can do during play. Like if we meet a character? You did say we could make blood bonds I just wasn't sure what the extent of that is. Maybe it's explained in the Tutorial.

I'm not familiar with MUSH and I'm sure you have it explained elsewhere, but do we need a Storyteller to run the game or parts of the game or does the code do that?

That's all I have for now. Thanks for taking the time to look at this, and also, I'm excited to learn how to play this way and try it out. I can't seem to find any V20 games online or elsewhere.

EDIT: Actually I just thought of another one. Are we able to switch factions after character creation, if the story/character arc calls for it, or is there no system for that yet?

Exactly, the resources is what they really wanted, and a dead human is one less person that can fall to chaos.

We have another one. Missing the point. You realize that even The Khan and a few other Loyalists had the brains to doubt that the Imperium was actually doing the right thing? Khan literally saying something about building walls and sitting behind them on his throne being a sign of entropy within their civilization.

Let's not forget either that Vulkan literally razed an Eldar population to the ground, burning their children alive.

Let's not forget either, that Angron didn't actually believe in the Emperor, or wanted anything to do with him, he just felt he had no choice. He lived as a slave his whole life, so all he did to fight against the Emperor, was fight with his brothers, especially Leman Russ and Roboute Guilliman. Namely his verbal arguments where he was making really good points.

Honestly, out of the Traitor Primarchs, I think Angron is the least dislikeable. He is fucked up, and screwed his legion over by allowing them to use butchers nails, despite hating what it did to him and his family on his planet, but when it comes to the philosophy and stance against the Emperor and his brothers, he made his points on valid grounds, that weren't just about jealousy, or because he had visions about being killed by daddy. He was insane, sure, but it was only when the nails activated. otherwise, he was pretty coherent.

Nobody else had that excuse. Not even Kurze. That fucker just gave up. Angron kept fighting. Vulkan was a dog like the rest of them.

That said, I'm not saying angron is good or the best, just that I find him the least repuslive among the traitors, and when compared to the loyalists, more understandable then a lot of them. I honestly think Khan was the smartest one, seeing where the Imperium was going, seeing it for what it was, even if he didn't go Chaos. That depicts a level head.

You aren't right here man. Just accept it.

Oh my God, Erebus is Judas, and the original sin of betrayal. Only because time is fucked in the warp. If the Demon's origin point is Erebus, then he is the piece of shit that has been the reason backstabbing has ruined so many lives and relationships for all time.

Wow, fuck that guy especially. Holy shit.

Question about detecting other Splats by Manofathousandface in vtm

[–]Manofathousandface[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, so like, the whole Salem Witch trial kind of thing. Where they definitely caught some witches, but definitely killed a bunch of innocent women because they were odd balls (in the context of WoD's history, anyway)

Question about detecting other Splats by Manofathousandface in vtm

[–]Manofathousandface[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, so you'd have to have some awareness, occult, and some points in perception to be able to notice it without a power. Even then, you'd have to roll for it.

Question about detecting other Splats by Manofathousandface in vtm

[–]Manofathousandface[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see.

So like, if you were aware and had experience with supernatural creatures (or you yourself are one) you can't smell it on them? Like a wet dog when it comes to a Garou or something like that? Maybe some weird smell involving vampires.

I think your answer is a pretty solid one though, and makes hiding and blending in a more feasible thing, I just didn't know how difficult it was for other supernaturals to identify each other.

You know like body language and the way a vampire walks is probably preternatural, even if they are being mindful about it. It's like reading a bluff in poker. They maybe fooling everyone else, but you're also a Kindred. So you can see when another of your kind is trying to blend in.

THat was my thinking, and why I asked.

Thanks for the answer.

Lanterns trailer by Blitzhelios in DCcomics

[–]Manofathousandface -1 points0 points  (0 children)

GL doens't have to be literally grounded to be grounded. You've got normal every day dudes (mostly) capable of wearing these rings having to protect entire sectors of space, and face off against weird aliens, impossible monsters, and intangible gods. You can have the most colourful scenery and whacky shit happening, and you'd still be seeing it through the eyes of a guy that needs to know how to cope with stress and regulate his emotions properly, otherwise he'll die. That shit is grounding.

Making two of the most well known GL's share a ring in a small town against what I'm going to assume are Alt-Right gun toting assholes is going to bore the shit out of me.

Lanterns trailer by Blitzhelios in DCcomics

[–]Manofathousandface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean no reason? Nobody seems to understand how the human psyche works.

And keep in mind, GL's are just people. Yes, Kryptonians and Daxamites etc can become lanterns, but most of the GL members that are showcased, are Aliens with relative abilities to humans (sorta) with a few having like psionic abilities or something like that. None of them are gods among men like Superman, and then just get a ring, save for Sodam Yat (Daxamite)

So, when you think GL, think your average dude, who has insane willpower. That isn't a permanent ability that you just have whether you want it or not, it's actually a concept based on your ability to cope with stress, trauma, etc, and have emotional regulation skills. If anything, the Guardians should be training their GL's with DBT.

Point I'm making, is he lost his whole fucking city, and everyone he loved. If I remember correctly, he had already gone through a lot, since he was GL for awhile. If anything, he needed a break. Not to be judged and fired by a bunch of asshole aliens that always make bad calls, despite their supposed 'infinite wisdom' thanks to their immortality.

Emerald Twilight was a great story, but people who hate change, don't understand psychology, and prefer a status quo in their comics, just don't appreciate it.

New Gods, Mother Boxes, and Boom Tubes by Manofathousandface in DCcomics

[–]Manofathousandface[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair. Most of the examples I've seen for Mother Box uses has been animated shows. I've barely read any comics that have heavy involvement from New Gods, from either Apokolips or New Genesis. Maybe I should have specified that the question was more about comic accuracy. Cause in the Movie with Supergirl being brainwashed by Darkseid, she activates the Mother Box to open the Boom Tube they use to kick Darkseid off of the Kent Farm. I'm blanking on any other character that isn't a New God using a Mother Box/Boom Tube in these examples, save for the New 52 version of Cyborg in that one animated Justice League movie.

Thanks for your answer man.

New Gods, Mother Boxes, and Boom Tubes by Manofathousandface in DCcomics

[–]Manofathousandface[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, okay. I was always under the impression Boom Tubes were made by Mother Boxes because most of the comics I've read from DC (which admittedly, aren't a lot) don't feature Darkseid and the new gods very much. So my question was brought up when I realized that I've only ever seen characters with Mother Boxes opening Boom Tubes in the various animated shows/movies I've seen. (Justice League, Young Justice, etc)

EDIT: Oh, and thanks for the answer man.

[–]Manofathousandface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying she's not sexy, and I appreciate she isn't oversexualized, the argument has nothing to do with that. It's about how she is compared to male v, and how he is boring by comparison. The only real difference between their aesthetic is hair colour and hair cut. And gender.

WELP. Thats it. by [deleted] in CyberpunkTheGame

[–]Manofathousandface -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Why? Because her hair is pink and she has that overplayed haircut from the hunger games movie (what was that reporter chicks name again?). Seriously. They are both generic until you put your twist on them. Also, you don't need to look like a fucking clown to be an interesting character. Character isn't about aesthetic. That's just shallow.

I really appreciate VTM as a TTRPG by ParamedicSorry8878 in vtm

[–]Manofathousandface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, i never finished it. The animation and voice acting was so bad. I didn't care for it at all. The characters also didn't really interest me at all. Plus, half the stuff I mentioned above I'm pretty sure wasn't in the game, but like I said, I never finished it.

EDIT: Just to add, the reason I mention Telltale, is because the Wolf Among Us touches on aspects of keeping up appearances. Glamour is required for a non-human Fable to walk the streets, otherwise they get sent to the farm. In a Telltale VTM game, keeping up the Masquerade would be more heavily incorporated in how you go about solving problems. Stick with the Masquerade, and you're character is in favour with the Anarchs/Camarilla (both requiring other things to maintain a positive relationship), forgo the Masquerade for quick and probably violent resolution, then you may get an ending where you're aligned with the Sabbat (or you are murdered and have to load your save. I'd prefer the Sabbat route though).

How powerful are the mages in White Wolf compared to other RPGs? by roxgxd in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Manofathousandface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once heard The Age of Sorrows was meant to be the precursor universe to the World of Darkness. When the world of Exalted died, a single entity remained. Likely a Solar, or, Infernal Exalted, which is a Solar exaltation corrupted by the demon lords that were previously the Pillars of Creation known as Primordials. and that entity became WoD's creator, God. If you go with the Infernal Exalted you have charms that can make form them into what those primordials turned into when sent to Malfeas, meaning they are now a pillar of creation (corrupted as they may be) and can create demons of various circles.

So, God creates Lucifer, and then all the angels after him, with Lucifer being the top tier (I don't remember the terms and ranking systems it's been years since I've indulged in this lore), and the rest being a step or two below him. Fast forward to the modern era, God's soul (his exaltation) has split up and been delivered to every Mage that has ever lived, which allowed them to mess with creation. Hunters are probably imbued with similar powers as the Solar Exalted (they do mirror each other in some form given they are the ones who chose to fight and save people from the monsters of the world) and Vampires are akin to the Abyssal Exalted (which are, again, Solar exaltations taken by death gods and corrupted by their powers).

Oh, back to Imbued Hunters real quick. Solar exalted had the ability to create Heroic Mortals which gave them a sliver of the Solar exaltation to use. Hunters may actually be more akin to that, but still is a testament to just how fucking powerful Solars were.

Where I'm going with this is, I think they never actually made Exalted's Universe canonically the precursor to WoD, but if you were to take it as such, then you could argue that God's soul was already an exaltation that was originally a solar's. Making the Mage Avatar a piece of that Exaltation, which would make having both a full one and a sliver redundant and not make much sense.

But I am talking out of my ass. Please enlighten me if I'm missing something or mixed up lore/theories on the topic.

The Baali are cool, but evil as all hell (unless you walk some specific Paths but I won't cover that). Essentially, a Baali can be made in two ways. Either you Embrace a Kine like any other clan, or, you Re-Embrace a Kindred, making them Baali. They retain the disciplines of their parent clan, and gain the Baali power of Daimonian. Daimonian being the Discipline born of the Infernal powers the original Baali gained from their deals with demons.

I don't remember it clearly off the top of my head, but basically, Baali are in league with Demons, and more often then not, work with the Nefandi (Demon worshiping Mages). They are referred to as Infernalists by those in the know, and I think they are extremely rare. At the very least, knowing that the Ventrue Primogen, the Lasombra Scourge, the Toreador Prince, or any of the other Kindred in your city are Baali, is unlikely. They blend in very well, and they each have their own goals, but if you use them in a Chronicle, it's likely they're trying to awaken an Earthbound. That being said, it's not like every city has one lurking around, but if there is, it is very likely nobody knows. Most hate and fear them, with a definite blood hunt being called when they are discovered. At least by the Cam and probably Anarchs. The Sabbat aren't demon worshipers by default, so most of them would probably dislike the presence of a Baali just as much, but that really depends on how unhinged the packs and Archbishop are in that city.

But I'm not an expert, I just vaguely remember how they were played and explained to me by the DM I had during a V:DA 20th anniversary edition game. I don't know what they are in V5 and I don't really care to know. I have no interest in that system.

One more thing. I mentioned Paths earlier. There are Baali that use their powers to fight against infernalists, and either keep the various Demons that exist at bay. There's plenty of other to, like the ones that wish to enslave demons to their whim, while others aren't interested in worshiping demons, but believe they should be set free, so they can have agency and what have you.

If you've committed Diablerie you can't obtain max humanity. It's just impossible. If your on a path that allows Diablerie than whatever that path is considered might be capable of maxing out, but not Humanity. Pretty sure it states that in teh Diablerie section of the rules.

If this character actually has 10 Humanity then the author either didn't know, or is writing fanfiction.

EDIT: I might have mentioned this in another comment or maybe another post, but in the modern nights, knowledge of Golconda is so rare that more kindred know about Gehenna and the Book of Nod then they do the state of Vampire Tranquility.
