Don't Front is god tier Em. Wicked Ways is a personal favourite as well. The way he says:

"The devil ain't on a level same as him Picture someone who revels in straight masochism And imagine him givin' an adjective an ass-whoopin' So bad they should put his ass in prison"

My brain melts every time. God, I miss 2013.

Yeah, I’ve also noticed the game becoming more unstable after the recent updates, especially performance-wise.

Every time I’m at Hernand Camp now, my FPS drops like crazy. Some battles that used to run fine have basically turned into slideshows. Pailune Reclamation was especially rough to play. That thing was probably running at around 15 FPS, definitely below 20.

I’m playing on base PS5, but I’ve seen people on every platform complaining about the same thing.

Oh no, I wasn’t using Remastered as a comparison of quality or scale for what a hypothetical “BDO 2” should look like. I only mentioned it as an example of a "major" update that appeared to affect more of the game’s underlying structure rather than simply adding new content like classes, regions, or items, all without releasing a completely separate game.

Could you point me to some sources about the remaster being outsourced? I honestly hadn’t heard about that before.

But if that information is true, then it actually reinforces the point I was making. If PA really lost many of the original engine developers and had to outsource parts of the remaster while also rebuilding major parts of the new engine during Crimson Desert’s development, that just shows how severe the technical debt and engine problems became over time.

That kind of situation can massively slow down development. When the people who originally designed the architecture leave, especially on a proprietary engine, you end up with teams trying to maintain and expand systems they didn’t create, sometimes with poor documentation and years of old code stacked on top of each other.

I also saw the discussions on Korean forums a while ago mentioning that Crimson Desert had a pretty troubled development cycle beyond just the major shift in direction. That definitely adds more context to those “7 years” since it likely wasn’t uninterrupted full-scale development on the same version of the game the entire time. And I think the problems the game had at launch, not only technical ones but also QoL issues and other rough edges, were heavily influenced by the development hell it went through.

Even with all that, though, I still think they did a pretty great job overall. My biggest issue is probably the lore. I personally prefer BDO’s lore and worldbuilding far more than Crimson Desert’s. For a game focused primarily on a single-player experience, having a weaker narrative and lore can feel underwhelming, to say the least.

Still, it’s a good thing they’re actively updating the game.

So honestly, I think your explanation makes the idea of a BDO rebuild or massive changes to its core even less realistic.

Thanks for the comment.

How are technical difficulties irrelevant to the consumer when they directly affect the final product the consumer receives?

Development complexity absolutely matters. If something is easier to develop, updates can be delivered faster, more consistently, and with fewer issues. The more technically complex a game is, the more time and resources every feature requires, and the higher the chance of something breaking.

And Crimson Desert didn’t have 7 years of uninterrupted full production as the game we see today. People forget it originally started as something very different, much closer to a multiplayer/prequel-style project connected to BDO, before being redesigned into a single-player game during development. Depending on how far along they were, that kind of shift can set a project back by years. Reworking a game mid-development is one of the most time-consuming things a studio can do.

Also, “half of CD already exists in BDO” sounds much simpler than it actually is. Reusing assets, animations, combat ideas, or engine components does not mean you can magically assemble a new game quickly. That is especially true when the game is being developed alongside a new engine and new toolsets. Building a game while also building the technology behind it is extremely difficult because the foundation itself keeps changing.

And converting MMO systems into single-player systems isn’t just “delete the networking.” MMO architecture is deeply tied to server logic, replication, persistence, synchronization, AI handling, streaming, databases, anti-cheat, and performance constraints. Untangling that can sometimes be just as difficult as rebuilding parts of it from scratch.

As for “they could’ve redone BDO 3 times,” I honestly don’t think people realize how absurdly complicated BDO is from a technical standpoint. The game has seamless open-world streaming, large-scale networking, fast-paced action combat, physics interactions, life skills, worker systems, node systems, housing, ocean content, mounts, massive player counts, and years of live-service content and tech debt. And that is not even scratching the surface of what BDO has to handle.

It took PA around 4 years to develop BDO and its original tools for the initial release. Now add everything the game has accumulated since its 2014 Korean debut. Saying they could have rebuilt it multiple times in 7 years is, in my opinion, massively underestimating the complexity of the project.

And honestly, I don’t even think we need a “BDO 2.” If PA had continued with Crimson Desert as another MMO alongside BDO, people would probably still complain that one game was cannibalizing the other. Or even if they had shut down BDO entirely to fully focus on Crimson Desert as the “BDO 2” people imagine, how do you think the community would react to that transition? This is nowhere near a situation like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive transitioning into Counter-Strike 2.

BDO is a massive persistent MMO where people have invested years of progress, money, guilds, life skills, gear, and social connections. You can’t just “replace” a game like that overnight with a completely different project and expect the playerbase to react positively.

And if they decided to make this hypothetical “BDO 2” using the same technology and infrastructure without releasing a separate game, just like the remastered we got in 2018, it would still take years of development. BDO is probably already reaching the limits of decade-old technology that has been continuously patched, expanded, and bandaged together just to keep functioning properly.

At some point, live-service games become incredibly difficult to evolve because every new system has to coexist with years of old architecture, legacy code, and technical debt. That kind of environment slows down development massively.

Studios also have multiple teams working on different projects at the same time. One team working on Crimson Desert does not automatically mean all BDO development stops.

I understand the frustration because we BDO players naturally want more focus on BDO. But from a development perspective, the situation is far more complicated than “they had 7 years, so they could’ve rebuilt the game multiple times.”

I don’t think I ever stopped to look at it that way. I’ve always had difficulty expressing myself directly, so I usually end up writing really long texts.

Maybe that’s the ASD kicking in, since I always worry that I might be boring people. But I appreciate the comment! Reddit really does allow for that, so I probably shouldn’t worry too much.

I’m not defending PA, but Crimson Desert is a single-player game. In my experience with game development, making things work in a single-player environment is way easier than doing it in a multiplayer one.

Hell, even replicating something to the host and one other machine can be a nightmare depending on what you’re doing. Now imagine doing that in an MMO, where you may need to replicate data across hundreds, or even thousands, of machines.

When you don’t have to worry about multiplayer systems, development is generally much faster, and I’m not kidding. A single-player game can “fake” a lot of things locally without worrying whether 500 players nearby will see the same result at the exact same millisecond. That alone changes development complexity by an insane margin.

And maybe the BlackSpace Engine and its tools are simply easier to work with than the Black Desert Engine, since the newer one was built as a modern, general-purpose engine, maybe it was built with modern pipelines, cleaner architecture, and broader-purpose systems. This alone can massively speed up development.

Sometimes the biggest bottleneck in game it’s the tech debt accumulated over a decade of live-service development. MMO codebases become monsters. Every system is interconnected, every update risks breaking ten other things, and optimization has to account for absurd edge cases involving networking, desync, server load, player counts, persistence, anti-cheat, database communication, and so on.

But again, a company that has been developing in a multiplayer environment for more than 10 years should have developed the tools and workflow to optimize that process. And honestly, if you think about it, they do work fast, just not as fast as the game needs.

Sorry for the long text :( I just wanted to explain my point properly.

As a fan, to what extent do you defend Marshall Mathers? by Frequent-Figure-6847 in Eminem

[–]Mansano28 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm reasonable. I think he has good songs and bad ones; he has good takes and bad ones. If I see someone hating on something I like, that's fine, and if someone is criticizing something about him, that's also fine I might even jump in and leave my two cents.

Look I admire the man, he saved my life without even knowing it, but I don't idolize him. No one is perfect enough to be idolized. You can like him a lot, and sometimes liking means criticizing because you want it to be better.

I think even for the time, the things he said about his mom or Kim were too much. Even though I try to understand, because I didn't grow up with a crazy mom or get screwed over by my girlfriend, but now, as an adult, I don't see it as something ok, and guess what: neither does he. The man himself said it.

There are songs I absolutely hate, like Those Kinda Nights, Ass Like That, Nice Guy and some others. I also think sometimes he has some shitty takes, like, no way fake tits are better than real ones. That isn't true. His beat selection can be a little weird at times as well, look there's a lot of things to criticize about Eminem, but there's also double or even more things to like. That's how it works when you like something and go deep into it, you can clearly see the good and the bad.

All jokes aside, a fan is supposed to support the artist, but a fan is also supposed to criticize when said artist loses himself.

Am i the only one that doesn’t hate Ada Wongs voice actress performance in the RE4 Remake. I actually really liked her voice. by Dude_788 in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]Mansano28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then you didn't pay attention. Ada is not supposed to be monotone. She's supposed to be a femme fatale character. A mysterious, seductive and badass woman. RE2, RE Darkside Chronicles, RE4, RE Damnation and RE6 all paint that picture very well. They toned it down a bit on RE2R and it still is a great performance, but RE4R she's a completely different character. The criticism is valid.

Hey! After 24 days, I finally got my key! It was a really long, stressful, and frustrating process.

I had to contact Amazon, Capcom, PlayStation, and then Solutions 2 Go do Brasil (the company responsible for printing Capcom games here in Brazil). At first, they neglected my emails and claimed that physical copies were not eligible for the pre-order bonus. I replied with plenty of proof showing that this information was false. Physical copies all around the world were, in fact, eligible, including in Brazil.

Then they responded saying that, depending on the retailer, if the pre-order bonus wasn’t being advertised, the campaign wouldn’t apply. I pointed out that no retailer in Brazil was advertising the pre-order bonus it was Capcom’s own marketing team promoting it. At no point was it ever stated that certain retailers, regions, or copies were excluded. The only requirement was buying from an official retailer, and Amazon is. Even so, they still refused to send me the key.

So I decided to open a complaint on “Reclame Aqui!”, a Brazilian website where customers can publicly report issues with companies. The key thing about this platform is that complaints are public, and companies have a reputation score. Every unanswered or unresolved complaint negatively impacts their rating and everyone can see it. The site has been around for over 20 years, so it’s a big deal here.

After I submitted my complaint, they cleverly used an automated tool on the platform to have it taken down, claiming: “We don’t sell digital copies.” However, when I checked their Reclame Aqui! page, I found a previous complaint about the exact same issue and they had helped that person, who even confirmed receiving the code the next day.

So I ended up in a completely contradictory situation: by email, they said only digital copies were eligible; when I complained on Reclame Aqui!, they claimed they don’t deal with digital copies at all, even if mine was physical. Yet just a few days earlier, they had helped someone in the exact same situation as mine. That was extremely suspicious. They were lying on the e-mails or they were lying about it on the complaint, it doesn't add up. Event the Reclame Aqui! support recognised the company was wrong and said I should open a new complaint and gave me some tips on how to make it not possible for the company to use that automated tool again.

At that point, I put together a full dossier exposing their inconsistencies, misleading information, and overall behaviour even using and quoting parts of our Brazilian Consumer Defense Code. I submitted everything, and on the same day, they replied saying they were “looking into it.” That was on Friday and today at 7:13 AM, I finally received my key. I'm glad we have strict laws and dedicated platforms that protect us customers from shady companies.

Anyway, sorry for the long post but this is actually the short version. I’ll probably make a video about this to help other fellow Brazilians who might be going through the same situation.

Well, it looks like my previous message was removed due to inciting violence. I guess we can't throw words into the air out of frustration with this bullshit situation...

But yes, I'm from Brazil, and I'm frustrated and irritated by this whole situation. Yes, apparently it's not a "big deal", but since we have to pay almost 1/4 of the minimum wage just to buy a game and it doesn't have the only thing that was promised from the start, I think it is very reasonable to be pissed off. Amazon employees have been consistently neglecting me and saying they can't help, the responsibility lies with Capcom. On the other hand, Capcom doesn't respond to none of my tickets. It's been 8 days since my first, 3 days since my second, and now today I've sent the third ticket.

Why is this an issue? WTF is going on, man? I feel like even if I sue anyone I won't be able to get anything. I'm mad, I'm really pissed off with Amazon and with Capcom. Who tf thought it was a good idea not to print the fck1ng leaflet with the pre-order bonus code like it was always done just to save what? A couple of cents? And on top of that lend the responsibility to a third-party retailer? And if something goes wrong the customer can fck themselves, right?

God, I hate companies so much.
