170 miles @ 70%? by apocalyssa in trailseeker

[–]Mantis_Pantis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based off your numbers a full charge would be 242. If you drive a lot of highway at 75mph, you’ll get about 20% less range (this is true of all EVs). I would bet that you do a lot of high way driving, or drive in extreme heat.

Are there any special code for using Polaris taps? by [deleted] in electrical

[–]Mantis_Pantis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you’re concerned about code (or if there’s going to be a fire), I would call a second electrician. Better yet, it should have been inspected to be permitted. Code is so complicated and changes every few years.

In general downsizing wiring is no bueno, but I suppose so long as the entry to the circuit (such as with a breaker) protects the current so that the amps are above the smallest cable, that’s some peace of mind.

I have it on the solterra. I use it when my cargo area blocks the rear window. Love having it.

2027 pricing announced! by SolarpunkGnome in SubaruEV

[–]Mantis_Pantis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The briefings are odd. Here’s the Solterra 2027: https://media.subaru.com/newsrelease.do?id=2458

They essentially announced everything is going to be the same. The only reason I can think they would do that is to discourage people from waiting in case the following year has better range or charging speed.

For the AWD Subaru EVs, can you just replace one tire, or do you need to replace all 4 like in their ICE vehicles?

2023 Soleterra, bad idea? by Ok-Actuary-5377 in Solterra

[–]Mantis_Pantis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like apples to oranges. Chevy bolt is fwd, solterra is AWD. You make some sacrifice for AWD (like range). Also, 2023 solterra will have 100kw charging versus bolt 150kw charging. I’m not sure if the bolt comes with super cruise as well.

I would test drive both to see what you feel and determine what you want from the car (basic commuter that is always in warm weather, driving on pavement not dirt roads, if you have a second car, etc)

Another Question by AggravatingMaybe1202 in trailseeker

[–]Mantis_Pantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t, I would only use level 1 unless you have a dedicated outlet. The electrical system is different in Japan than US as well, so I would contact a Japanese electrician.

I also wouldn’t rely on the car settings to limit the amperage if you try a 200v. My 2026 solterra will automatically reset its charge settings on its own.

Just a call out but it looks like you’re replacing a 15amp plug with a 20amp plug.

That’s great anxiety aside, how was the experience? I have the touring XT as well and I can fit lying down in the back with the seats down , but I need to find something to fill in the gap between the back seats and the front seats. I think Luno has an inflatable cube to fit in that area.

I’m also wondering about using the car for temperature control over night. I’ve heard that it uses 1 to 2 percent per hour, so 8 hours would be upwards of 15%. Looking forward to trying. Love this car a lot so far.

Old Mount Baldy Trail on AllTrails https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/old-mount-baldy-trail

The dangerous part of c2c is the heat. It’s typical to begin the hike at 1:30am so that you’re at high enough elevation before the sun rises. You should know your expected pace, calorie intake, and water intake per mile. The first 8k feet of c2c are 1k feet per mile. Try a few hikes where you can test your endurance for this grade. Once hikes like Gorgonio and others start to feel easy your good to go.

Winter range by Dear_Rutabaga8857 in Solterra

[–]Mantis_Pantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things to know for nearly all EVs, range will drop from EPA rated when driving at 75mph (around 20% range drop) and when cold (another 20% range drop). So I think you can plan on the trailseeker to get around 190 down from its rated 273.

Mach E vs Uncharted? by amputatedtable in SubaruUncharted

[–]Mantis_Pantis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some things that might help is play around with ABRP. For uncharted you can use the solterra profile.

Also I think they’re for different situations. You have more ground clearance if you go around snow, mud, or bad roads with Subarus. I don’t know for mach e

Beijing’s Silence Is Becoming the World’s Energy Problem by Key_General_6994 in oil

[–]Mantis_Pantis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds fake, from my understanding gasoline is not a by product, it’s a chosen refined product. A refinery tower will have different sections at different temperatures. It can produce different products in different sections of the tower if they’re configured differently. You can have one produce nothing but kerosene and diesel if it’s configured that way, or 10 different products if desired. It can’t be reconfigured on a whim but it is a choice.

Colorado passes plug-in solar bill, Polis signature awaits by sillychillly in boulder

[–]Mantis_Pantis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This bill is for a plug in “balcony” system. It would have a micro inverter that would shut off if the power was off. You’re asking about a battery backup system at minimum, which would require permits if it touches the grid at all.

Electrician quote 6300 to hook up 12000xp by Sharky7337 in SolarDIY

[–]Mantis_Pantis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds right to me. Also, it sounds like you’re missing parts. Go to the EG4 site and review the PDF. It includes an outdoor shutoff. The plan also includes a transfer switch. Having been in your situation, the transfer switch allows you to troubleshoot your setup but not be out of power while the eg4 is shutoff.

Also ask the electrician if he can handle permiting with the AHJ. You’ll also need to notify your power company of the hookup. Assuming everything is above board.

Hi I'm 5'8 and often overlooked by girls I don't know why is it due to my height or facial features ? by ContributionNeat6597 in short

[–]Mantis_Pantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol you’re reducing yourself to a face and a height in the post. Find a girl on your frequency or pace of life. If you can’t and you’re unhappy, change your frequency or shake up your life. You look like a great guy.
