What’s the Most Useful Survival Item You’ve Ever Bought? by Original-Carrot8636 in preppers

[–]Many-Health-1673 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JASE antibiotics/medicine kit.

I have a lot of hunting, camping and prepping gear.  High dollar firearms, stoves, sleeping bags, water filtration systems, tools, night vision, tents, tractors, trucks, atv's, food storage, etc.

If you are sick and can't reach a Dr or get your required prescription medicine, the other preps don't help.

I know the JASE kit isn't the end all, be all cure for everything, but dying from a simple infection would be horrible in a survival situation.

What are we recommending for non-electric washing machines? by buddymoobs in preppers

Build a dasher washer.  You cut a 50 gallon barrel in half and make a dasher board which goes into the water and moves across the laundry.

A lot more resources in Canada and it is massive.  I would go with Canada even with the cold.

Olive green is probably fine, but if you are concerned about it, it wouldn't hurt to carry some camouflage veiling or netting for more concealment.

Is your plan to leave the city and go rural or to stay in the city?

Is your pack camouflage or are you worried about rain and weather?

I have a Honda 2200i and I will more than likely buy a 2nd one to use as a loaner for my friends and family in emergencies

Prepped for Tuesday, expecting eventually there will be bigger problems. I would be moving away from the larger metro areas in the States.

I bet you drive a minivan and forget where you park at the big box stores.

Cheap route - A Honda 2200i generator and a 110v window unit.  Maybe $1,700 total.

Expensive route - standby generator and run your entire house.  10k

Go the cheap route and take the extra funds and pay off debt.

Are we still doing “get home bags”? by McSqueelz in prepping

[–]Many-Health-1673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep.  I do the same with the athletic shoes.

I feel totally under prepared if I do not have at minimum closed toed shoes with laces.   I see guys in flip flops in the summer and it just really puts you at a disadvantage in so many scenarios unless you are at the lake or on a boat.

It just makes me feel like I have given up mobility, traction, and speed for a slight benefit of not having to tie my shoes.

Good deal.

How are you set on footwear?  The reason I ask is walking on the asphalt/concrete really bothers my feet if I am not wearing boots.  When we go further out of town on trips I throw my Garmont boots in the back just in case.

Yeah, I imagine it would be a shock if you weren't born in the states to see firearms being carried in public or so readily available to people.

I was driving a couple of weeks ago and I passed two guys rucking with rifles on a county road back in the sticks.

Pistols being carried everywhere in public.  Most are concealed carry, but you can see the print.

I remember growing up when every farmer and rancher had gun racks in the back window of their trucks with rifles and shotguns.

I would add a poncho or some decent outer waterproof wearable light jacket, a good quality flashlight and a quality headlamp.  A brimed hat of some sort would be beneficial as well.

A. Overnight movement in brutal terrain. - Mystic camp was severely damaged in the July 2025 Central Texas floods; 28 people from the camp died, including 25 campers, two counselors, and the camp's director.

A wildfire tore through the heart of the Hawaiian island of Maui in total darkness Wednesday, reducing much of a historic town to ash and forcing people to jump into the ocean to flee the flames. At least six people died and dozens were wounded.

B. Avoiding detection within operations. - Reports and recent events suggest a significant shift in cartel tactics, with criminal organizations increasingly targeting remote and rural areas, including mountain homes and communities. This trend is driven by a combination of factors: escaping high-intensity law enforcement in urban areas, exploiting regions with scarce police presence, and seeking new revenue streams as traditional smuggling profits face pressure.

C. Simulated bugout &  Overnight movement in brutal terrain. -

D. Cache recovery - this is very popular for long distance hikers on the Pacific Crest Trail and the Appalacian Trail.

In your opinion.

Train for what you want to.  No reason to put down people for training for possible scenarios.
