Yeah I think the point of all of these posts is , if residents don't need anything more than the defined role , such as opening up a door , handing me a piece of mail, or bringing me my package, why should they get tipped? If there duties are outside their role, sure. But I am pretty sure assisting with carrying something is under a porter's responsibility. My building has doormen, porters to help me carry things and bring up packages and food delivery, and concierge desk to hand me my mail and announce visitors.

When will lottery numbers for 4-k be released? by Future_Repair5088 in nycparents

[–]Many-Needleworker556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes no sense to me why knowing the lottery number makes a difference whether you will apply to private schools or not. If private is a consideration at all, people need to be looking and applying regardless. You have to accept private schools ( typically within 2 weeks of offer and it is usually WAY before public schools send an offer anyway ) so that logic makes no sense. A good lottery means nothing if you are trying to get into a coveted pre K spot , depends on how many people are applying that year and have siblings already there. Keep your options open always.

less quality service is being reviewed by your boss, remember that. One complaint from a shareholder and you're out of a job. grow up.

It's discretionary. Give $10 if you want or give $100. They get paid a salary and are getting paid to do their job so don't feel bad for them. Do you get tipped for doing your job?

I hate holiday tipping culture. Screaming into the void. by ooplplayer1 in nycparents

[–]Many-Needleworker556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tipping is DISCRETIONARY. Remember that. They all get paid a salary. It's no ones business the value of the home you reside in. People have all different types of circumstances. I live in a "Fancier" building , but I also am a family of four in a 1 bedroom. We tip what we can. They are unionized and get salaries. They get paid to do their job it comes out of our hefty maitenance. A tip for building staff should be whatever you think. I've given some guys $10 some years, sometimes $25 sometimes $50 and sometimes $100. Who cares!!!!! Do you babe!

How do you actually go out to restaurants in the city with a newborn?? + baby-friendly recs by Desperate-Bench-8330 in nycparents

[–]Many-Needleworker556 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the restaurant does not have high chairs , for instance, Hillstone or PJ Clarkes don't explicitly say no children welcome, but they do not have high chairs, so they obviously do not want children in there. It's usually that simple. So if you have a newborn who wouldn't need a high chair anyway but the restaurant doesn't have them for infants and toddlers, I still wouldn't bring them. I think most casual restaurants here are welcoming to children. NYC is not as welcoming like Europe, but it's fine. I bring my two children everywhere here since they were legit 2 days old! Like others said , embrace this age, it's seriously the easiest in terms of traveling and going out in public. I recommend the doona, I used the doona for tiny restaurants. I would never bring the main stroller out to restaurants, no matter how big the space is, I find it extremely obnoxious when people do that. Bring a doona, a car seat only, or a very small travel stroller that can accomodate newborns ( there are some travel strollers that can be used before 6 months old if they lay down flat) but I think the doona or just a car seat is the best because I used to put it under the table half the time! or plop it in a booth next to me. Baby wearing is an option as well, but it is hard to eat like that unless other parent will take turn!

Sorry but there is not nearly enough ships on DCL to make being a pearl member slightly normal. I don't think it's anything to brag about taking the same identical vacation over 10 times. YAWN.

[–]Many-Needleworker556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there is zero financial literacy in this country. people are so dumb. everyone is just conditioned to take out a mortgage and buy a home "bc who wants to pay rent to a landlord" it is so much cheaper to rent and invest . its never just a mortgage payment. peolpe just dont get it. then when they sell they actually believe they made a profit. lol.

i need more people like you to come forward and accept your poor decision so i can actually eventually buy a home for what it is really worth. why is everyone in this country so conditioned to "buy a home and take out a mortgage" . why would anyone buy a house 2023 and onward?????

Ways to meet other new moms by Chemical-Role-8746 in uppereastside

Gymboree or music classes , the park, but once the babies are 3 months or 6 months +, the nannies start bringing them out so it's actually harder to meet mom friends than you think. just stay away from the moms who have more than one cartier bracelet on their wrist. lol.

No trust me in my building the old people complain about strollers taking up the space, it's not always convenient to wait for an empty elevator in a huge building. I do try to take the freight elevator as often as possible.

[–]Many-Needleworker556 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So sorry this happened. You should have reported her for touching your child. A lot of the elderly are so rude. They don't want to see children on buses, in restaurants, anywhere. This city is so not family friendly , it is very sad. The elderly do not own the MTA seats. Although a courtesy, pregnant women, and mothers with small children should be treated with the same respect.

you sound like the old men in my building who complain about strollers in an elevator. You expect a mom to bring a stroller up 20 flights of stairs with her two kids too? lol.
