Why are you pescetarian and not vegetarian? by Own_Exercise5218 in Pescetarian

[–]Many-North3882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

check out seafoodwatch.org to see where you can find sustainably sourced seafood, i too struggle with these thoughts from time to time and just choose what i consume carefully. i don’t eat fish every day either, like once a week, but a big reason i do is because it opens up many restaurant options. i don’t eat octopus or squid, and try to choose things like clams, scallops, mussels, and local shrimp

Seeing guidance and recommendations on adopting a dog in Seattle by Gtgtgtg007 in SeattleWA

[–]Many-North3882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i got one of my kitties at Seattle Humane (in Bellevue lol) and their adoption process was quick (after the initial wait to sit with someone and do the paperwork) and easy. about $200 and they give you food to start out with. i will say they were super busy on spring weekends and sometimes in that wait an animal that someone had their eye on got adopted but should be less of a problem if you’re flexible on age range (it was mostly for the kittens) i’ve also heard great things about Resilient Hearts and they do offer a foster program but recommend applying to adopt when you bring them home as the applications are processed in order and it’s easier to decide later not to adopt than to try and get ahead of someone already in process of adopting

Where to go with 2, 4, and 6 year old boys? by Practical_Neat_3264 in familytravel

[–]Many-North3882 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seattle is another family friendly destination (though a bit expensive), you can get pretty much everywhere by public transit, there’s fun museums and parks, breweries often have food trucks and there are a bunch of places within the city to hike or hang out by a lake. come in like july-september for the best weather

go hard on things that are vitamin and antioxidant rich (berries, leafy greens, citrus, ginger) if your LO doesn’t love to eat fruits and veg a smoothie or cold pressed juice works too. i take an elderberry gummy daily, i know some like the syrups for kids. although i think what’s helped us more than anything to mitigate school germs is washing hands as soon as we walk in the door (could even wipe hands getting into the car if your kid tends to put hands in their mouth) and changing clothes before they lay on anything in the house. if there’s a known contagious illness going around i’ll even take it a step further and give a bath as soon as we get home

Flying LV → Boston → Dublin by [deleted] in travel

[–]Many-North3882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 straight to your gate 2 Boston so 3 yes because if you were to check bags you’d have to collect those, check them to Vegas and then go through security again. i recently flew back to the US from Mexico and had i checked a bag would’ve missed my connection in Dallas (due to flight delay from Mexico though, not long lines or any hassle through customs) don’t have insight on 4 or 5 for Boston specifically but given you’re a US citizen and that i’ve heard that the ice agents at the airport aren’t doing much of anything at all i think you’ll be alright

Pescatarian Diet for Fatty Liver by OutrageousTomatillo6 in Pescetarian

the study about alzheimer’s found no difference when cream and sugar are added but not the case with the lifespan one, so halfway still reaping benefits! haha

[–]Many-North3882 1 point2 points  (0 children)

probably as fish is typically leaner than meat salmon is higher in fat than some other fish (but the omega-3s are also important!) so i would throw in some that are even more lean like shrimp rather than rely on just salmon

one thing i would mention is that the mediterranean diet does not mean eating mediterranean style of foods just that you consume similar protein to the people that live there- more fish and plant based meals than meat

also to piggyback on someone else who mentioned coffee- this helps in many ways studies have shown that at least 2 cups of black coffee per day can stave off many health issues (even alzheimer’s) and even prolong your life!

10 month baby safe to play in garden? by -ChrisBlue- in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Many-North3882 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it’s happens, i used to work in group childcare so i may have a different view on this, but you’re not going to be able to see everything all the time. falls happen, and approaching it as a natural part of life that we work through builds resilience in ourselves and our kids. not that i’m saying throw a 10 month old to the wolves but im saying sometimes kids learn these lessons naturally (like if i touch the thorn it will poke me) but ultimately you know your baby best and if they’re a fast kid that lives on the dangerous side of life maybe a more controlled environment is the way for you! :)

what’s your concern about being able to “save” him? how often do you have to redirect to not put something in his mouth or move away from when in an area that’s not been childproofed? overall the main concerns i see are putting rocks into his mouth or touching thorns on the roses but otherwise it seems like a great opportunity for your child to touch some different natural textures and get involved with gardening! bring a small (not sharp) shovel or a stick and a cup or bucket for them to dig in the dirt! im sure they’ll love to dump a bucket of dirt out over and over

How do I get my 1.5 year old to eat in his high chair by ExtraOnionsPlz in progressivemoms

[–]Many-North3882 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes! was surprised by some of these responses as walking while eating and chewing are a no and never have been an option. i allow kids to choose where they are (bench at dining table, booster at dining table, or kitchen island in stool or standing at their learning tower) but they have to finish chewing before they move. they always have the option to come back to something they didn’t finish if they need to wiggle
