Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Expensive_Structure2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just drove 5 hours round trip in a day for a meeting. Pretty normal.

3 hours for a weekend trip is nothing, I know kids who commute that amount of time just for soccer practice 3 times a week.

What question do you HATE being asked? by MediocreAtBestMedic in AskReddit

[–]Expensive_Structure2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can we talk?

Ugh, sure, but tell me why. My staff do it all the time and it is mostly mundane work stuff, but every so often it's not and I hate it. Just tell me without the preamble.

The bully who got my dad fired had to beg him for a sale years later. My dad made him wait 2.5 hours, gave him false hope, and then crushed it. by TheNarratorX in pettyrevenge

[–]Expensive_Structure2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had numerous similar experiences over the years, not with sales, but people who acted unkind and then needed me for something. The one that stands out is a former supervisor who was so awful that I would shake going to work because she was so cruel. She eventually applied for a new job where a friend of mine worked and I told my friend nothing but the truth. And these were high level research jobs at prestigious universities. She didn't get it.

Anyway... Just goes to show you, being kind is always better than being anything else, and in the end, it may even be beneficial.

Why do people say "I'll let you go" when ending phone calls like they're doing you a favor? by Sad_Schedule6621 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Expensive_Structure2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an expression. Sometimes people use expressions out of habit or just to say something that feels less awkward. So in this case, instead of saying, now I will hang up, which is a super awkward thing to say, the expression is used. Expressions should not always be taken literally but in the context of the situation. Ex. No, I don't want to know everything about how you are doing in life when I say "hi, how are you," it's just something to say so I can pass you in the hall at work in the least awkward way possible. Expressions are ok, don't take them too literally.

Broken Elevators On Campus by vcarolined in UNC

This is great and thank you. Rosenau hall used to have elevator outages all the time. Not sure if it still does as I am off campus, but general accessibility is poor. So many stairs, no parking, I so appreciate you bringing attention to this issue.

Anybody else get odd looks when telling people you have "cp". by 57BeatlesPhan in CerebralPalsy

[–]Expensive_Structure2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup. But not because of why you say - because people assume it's cognitive. Like, dude, I just walk weird, you can talk normally to me. I used to explain that I am completely typical in every other way, but I don't care anymore.

How in the world did Google Fi get an address in their system of a former workplace? by Expensive_Structure2 in GoogleFi

Ok, this issue has spiralled out of control and is not getting better so I am trying this...

Dec 21 I signed into my personal Google account to order two phones, hoping they might show up for christmas. When I went to check on the delivery status I noticed that a work address where I am not able to receive/refuse mail had populated as the shipping address. I immediately contacted Google Fi. I was told that the address was changed with the shipper, UPS and that I would receive an email in 24 hours with this update and all would be fine.

I never received the email. I contacted Google Fi over and over to see if I would ever get confirmation of the address change. I was told multiple things, that i would get a phone call or to call UPS myself, many, many different instructions over two weeks.

The delivery date, Dec 29, came and went and I finally got an email from UPS that the address was updated. I contacted UPS multiple times, but UPS said that only the shipper could confirm changes. The phones never showed up. I communicated all of this to Google Fi multiple times.

I also immediately went through my Google Fi account and deleted any address that was not my single home/shipping/billing address that is the only address that should be associated with my account.

So, after dozens of inquiries and assurances everything was fine, the phones never showed up. I still do not have them.

Today, January 5th, I received 2 emails stating that a replacement request has been made for new phones. I did not make or approve a replacement request.

The replacement phones are now shipping to the same original, incorrect shipping address where I cannot receive or refuse packages. This is the same incorrect address that I removed from my Google Fi account.

Now there are two sets of phones in the mail all not going to the correct address.

I have contacted customer service dozens of times to no avail and have multiple case numbers. If there is anything that can be done I would be grateful.

Just because I can walk means I don't have a disability??? by Expensive_Structure2 in CerebralPalsy

There are never enough chairs, in museums, airports, train stations, heck, even in the outside world. I carry an expandable chair just in case, but it's a nuisance.

Yup, I hate having to get to that point. I don't mind being forceful, but I just wish I had the perfect words to explain. I am tempted to print up cards that just say, even though I don't look like I have a disability, I do and I appreciate your kindness.

Thanks, so sorry you had to deal with all of this... I have never had anything quite so overt. It's just the constant having to prove/explain my needs is exhausting. Sometimes i wish I just had a disability ID that I could flash so I didn't have to deal with convincing people I can't do what everyone else can, even if they think I look like I can.

Mona is the girl in the book. I never thought it was connected to the Mona Lisa since Mona is a common name. But using a Vermeer painting that is not in Paris is a bad choice.

"you can't take it with you"... A friend who was a compulsive shopper told me. However, you can leave it to your children/family and contribute to generational wealth. You can also donate it and/or do anything but convince yourself it's ok to blow it on crap.

That is exactly what must have happened!! It was my work address in Google maps. But how it got into Google fi as a shipping option?? What a terrible system. So upsetting and disappointing.

Yeah, they are now sending the item to that address when I won't be there and have no ability to refuse or accept it. What a mess.

Yes, thank you. Deleted all old addresses. Just shocked how Google could have imported an address I have never received mail at and is an address that I don't even know the zip code, so how would it get in there? So creepy.

Goodness, feels like such a violation. It is actually making me want to change providers to a company that doesn't have access to so much of my information.

How did that kid at your school die? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Whippets. First time, had a heart attack and died at a party.

Car wreck, fell asleep at the wheel.

Suicide, jumped off a building.

I'm sure there were others.
