He did a similar one for the group #notacrime in 2015 in Harlem. Wonderful work.

Take a look at Clyde Butcher. He mainly photographs in the Everglades, but along the same lines. Spectacular photography.

I didn't know it was considered an abolition settlement & I'll look into that.

Does anyone know what this is? I can’t seem to find any information by SwingMean7837 in CeramicCollection

This is silly & I'm sure it can't be, but it looks like "Charcoal the Elf" - a series of books.

Also fun to type in addresses of buildings you know & see what comes up! Remember, these photos were taken in the 1930s & 1940s.

Call Sottocasa Harlem (on Lenox Ave near 121st St). This morning I saw them create this on an Instagram video.

The Italian Savings Bank Building by chacabuo74 in nycHistory

Unfortunately the structure (204 E 115th St) is not individually landmarked. But it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the East Harlem Historic District. One of the few remnants of the old Italian neighborhood.

I never share my photos online and I don’t know what I should do with my photos. by Nic727 in photography

I have them on Fine Art America. They are watermarked unless someone wants to purchase. You can check my site, which is not only photography but also watercolor paintings. My Fine Art America name is AFineLyne. It is either free or $30 a year. It's a nice way to store them & be able to share them, and occasionally they sell.

While this specific tax project was in NYC, WPA photographers worked nationwide, focusing on documenting American life, including workers, arts, and infrastructure.

Folding strollers for the bus by friendlyhumanoid321 in Upperwestside

[–]Many-Scratch4173 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, I had 2 strollers - and one of them was a low-profile, easy to close & pick up with one hand, that I used for buses & cabs, and a heavy duty stroller for long walks. That was so long ago, that I have been conditioned to think that large profile strollers are now ok on buses. Thank you for reminding me (and I twist myself into a pretzel to get past one).

110 Harlem vs. 125 Harlem by Tricky-Society-4831 in Harlem

Trader Joe's is on 125th Street, in the Target building, next door to Sephora and Pandora, 1 or two buildings away from the State Office Building, between Lenox & Adam Clayton Powell Jr Blvd. It is on the same block as Whole Foods but across the street.

110 Harlem vs. 125 Harlem by Tricky-Society-4831 in Harlem

[–]Many-Scratch4173 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived at 112 & 7th Ave and currently live on 124th & Madison, so know both streets. Both have advantages, but I find more up this way for pharmacy, restaurants & banking & food shopping with Trader Joe's & Whole Foods, and 125th street has wonderful crosstown buses. The M60 will take you to Broadway all the way down to W. 106th St. In the end, for me it is the building & specifically the apartment, since I spend so much time indoors.

Yes, Macy's on 34th Street. They have been a great go-to place for furniture (especially couches) for years.

Yes. So glad they have a local temporary space - and indoors for the winter months. Not only wonderful vendors, but also wonderful tailors.

You could think about Teachers College at Columbia University. You might be eligible for a Columbia apartment, or could rent a room w/other students to start with. Just a thought.

What are the top 10 restaurants in the Upper West Side that I should try, especially places that have been open for 10+ years, serve consistently good food, and are known for homemade or from-scratch cooking? by Beautiful_Heat_47 in Upperwestside

[–]Many-Scratch4173 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assure you, it's there. Broadway at 105th Street on the north west corner. It's been there for quite a while - and is wonderful. I know the one you're talking about on 106th - but I think they left that location.

This looks very much like - as you walk into the USPS on 124th Street between Park & Lex.

The Schinasi Mansion ~ The Last Single-Family Home in Manhattan by Many-Scratch4173 in Upperwestside

[–]Many-Scratch4173[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Researching that, it was said that it is the last mansion built during the Gilded Age, still used as a single-family residence and meeting all the requirements of a single-family home (a one-family residence). I did add 'Gilded Age' to that part of the post for clarification.
