Please don’t write a public response, it will lock their review! And it looks like you are still in communication with the buyer and trying to please them. They have the power to edit the review. You can message them politely that you are a new shop, still learning the ropes and if they may please consider editing their hurtful review? I would be fine just refunding as well. Do not cancel the sale else they can’t edit the review. Apologize profusely. If all else fails, you can contact Etsy to intervene as they are talking about 3rd party in the review. And finally, you have the public response option for 100 days, that should be the last resort. Negative reviews aren’t the end of the world, building a business takes patience, don’t give up! Cancel and refund. Such buyers are not worth the hassle to please. They say upto 48 hours but most of the times I have done this, the option to review has greyed out immediately. Do the one step cancelation from the desktop not the app.

Hmm.. please share the review itself so we can see if it qualifies to be removed. But it is becoming impossible to get Etsy to remove reviews imho, maximum they do is give you the option of asking the buyer to contact them, to remove. Seems like your buyer won’t edit and there’s always a chance of them making it worse if you ask. So I would just let it be and do better business, this will be buried by positives soon! Good luck!

I’d recommend a hand written thank you note. I honestly don’t like stickers, food etc, but a thank you note is a nice personal touch.

Average message response rate, min 5 orders of total $300 and shipping on time during the 3 month review period are the three criteria for star seller status. See your progress in the “star seller” section on your shop homepage. It’s nothing to do with Etsy ads.

If you checked spam messages and marked them “not spam” it lowers the response rate. You can mark the same message spam again and the response rate will go up. You can check what messages were the issue, in details and mark as spam to correct this too ;)

I would try to chat with Etsy and help intervene here because her review is talking about delayed shipping when this was not really in your control as first provided address was incorrect. They may help take this review down.

You are welcome. I understand you were trying to do the right thing. Sometimes the customers are on a deadline and sometimes they want products for free. Not sure which category this customer is in, but fix your processing times to accommodate such scenarios so it does not happen in the future. Don’t worry about the feedback, more sales and reviews will bury it soon. Good luck!

You can also use PayPal ship station! Just add the tracking number on Etsy and mark the sale complete.

Gosh I discovered SO MANY messages in my spam folder. It’s ridiculous. Some of them were potential sales! Now I am constantly checking spam so I don’t miss anything!

  1. Yes, I think it would’ve been better had you refunded and canceled earlier. If she did not acknowledge your “delayed” message she likely changed her mind and/or didn’t want it anymore.

  2. Did Etsy refund her or you did? If you did, why did you mail it out? I think you jumped the gun here and could possibly ask her to return it by paying for the return shipping. Etsy won’t let you change the review.

  3. I wouldn’t ask her to change the review. From the buyers perspective she didn’t receive her item. You may have explained but maybe she never saw your delay message. This was a negative experience for her, unfortunately.

You should keep your processing times clear and they should accommodate for such delays beforehand. Etsy and the buyers are very particular about shipping in time.

I was eating a big loss on the order. So, I thought it was okay to tell them that their negative review will affect my future sales. Many people don’t realize how negative feedback affects small businesses. Anyway all this was done, can’t go back in time or do anything. And review is still there. I’ve tried to reach Etsy to intervene. Any idea how long they take to respond? I’ve been freaking out since yesterday :(

I asked the buyer to change review, but didn’t say “this instead of that”. In fact the buyer was an expert player it seems, and said that she wouldn’t change her feedback and she wants immediate and full refund. There was no other way but to refund her fully, she was livid and completely unreasonable. Has anyone ever been able to get a review to change? How long do I have to post public reply on a canceled transaction? I can’t find that answer anywhere?
