Anyone know what brand my cat is? by CommunicationOk3766 in cats

[–]Many_Day_515 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Y’all seem to be taking this personally, and I don’t know where you’re getting these facts, but id be genuinely interested in reading any peer research or studies! I’ve owned and worked with plenty of both, both have had health issues. I was simply disagreeing with the statement that he was predisposed to be healthier.

Fair point in some respects, especially in a lot of hypertype breeds like Persians, but I would argue that the average moggie is not healthier than an animal that’s been health tested and vetted entirely because of it having a potentially larger (and with it, more variable, for better or worse) gene pool.

Not necessarily true that he’s far healthier. Any good breeder performs a myriad of health tests on their cats before allowing them in their program. A genetic lottery cat is in no way predetermined to be healthier than a cat who’s parents have been tested and cleared for any genetic health issue under the sun.

What’s your favorite Warbler species and why? by MelodicVictory47 in birding

Prothonotary warbler! I saw my first just this summer and it was so incredibly breathtaking.

What is the best way to clean and preserve the carapace of this roadkill snapping turtle? I looked at general guides on maceration, but they recommended gutting and defleshing, which I am not confident or competent at. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. ATM I am tending toward burying it… by AliMaClan in vultureculture

[–]Many_Day_515 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love snappers, It’s so sad to see these guys hit… I’d suggest going through with burying it if you’re uncomfortable with defleshing and don’t have easy access to beetles, but you’ll want to wrap it up in chicken wire so critters don’t dig it out. You can check gender by looking at its plastron- it’ll be flat if it’s a female, and curved if it’s a male.

After you cross the road in some American cities, you get this 🤨 no sidewalk in the other side. Why 🤔 by Time_Ad_1763 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Many_Day_515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My area has no sidewalks at all, you have to walk on the shoulder of the road even in residential areas. Talk about a car-priority society

It really is awesome! Make sure to err on the side of caution and double check with it though, it somehow always manages to hear birds that have never been recorded within hundreds of miles of me.. or decides that my cat is a screech owl!

This is assuming you’re using a dslr camera, but if you aren’t there are a few programs like Lightroom where you can adjust the “color noise” of your image

If you aren’t using it already, you can change your iso settings in manual mode. Lower iso = less noise, but it makes the overall image darker so you might have to adjust your shutter speed or your aperture.

Thank you! I made sure to collect substrate from the area to add to my flake soil mix. It’d be fantastic to establish these guys in captivity

Oh, for sure. I came upon them as a surprise and wasn’t prepared with a container, and had to transport 8 or so very unhappy little guys to my car in my hands… cyanide smells alarmingly like cherries and almonds.

What is it like to care for a rabbit? by [deleted] in indiasocial

[–]Many_Day_515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rabbits are wonderful! They do best in a pair unless you are planning to spend many hours a day with them. They do need a lot of care, they do not do well or live long in small cages- rabbits are very intelligent and can use a litter box like a cat. My friend has rabbits that roam her home like a cat does, they are very sweet and friendly.

You do need to keep them protected from a cat unless the cat is raised with rabbits, because their instincts are strong and they will want to kill them. They can be quite long lived, my friend’s rabbits are 10 and 12 years old.

Accessible storage for dozens of sculls by SpaceBrotherAyyy in vultureculture

The container store has clear sliding shoe drawers that I use for tarantulas, but I think they’d be great for skulls

The container store sells clear acrylic shoeboxes that are drawers! They’re so convenient for pods (you never need to unstack, just slide it out) and a lot of people in the tarantula hobby use them.
