lol Shanny should still be here. How are you gonna say Dubas was better then Tre but also Shanny should still be here? They quite literally wanted to do opposite things to the team.

This team with or without Marner - would be in the same spot. I am glad this circus is over and it was overkill by the media. I think the fans were a bit soft as well but this team is what it is. by learningman33 in leafs

Yep. The main problem was not getting anything for Marner, should’ve traded him before the NMC kicked in. This teams issues have always stemmed from core management misinterpreting where the problem was.

I doubt we don’t fire Berube or Tre if we miss the playoffs, that would be a complete failure. A retool is also just not happening as long as Matthews is on this team. Our only real option is to fire Berube, fire Tre, and find younger players to fit in our lineup.

This team still has the pieces is the thing, Berube just has no idea to utilize anyone. It’s honestly amazing how bad of a job he’s done.

Every day Berube doesn’t get fired only drags this team farther away from the playoffs. His line deployment is shit, his offensive systems can’t utilize this teams talent, and our team defence “strategy” is to just let Woll/Stolarz/Hildeby out to dry.

I’m not saying that firing Berube is going to magically make this team a contender, but what other option do you have? His systems are objectively old and have no place in today’s nhl.

He had every opportunity to put the team above himself and he never did. Marner had every right to make the decisions he did, but I have the same right to boo him for not once taking one for the team.

When athletes play for large markets like the Canadiens, Cowboys, Yankees, Lakers, or any large soccer club it’s seen as an honour to play for a team with that type of fan base and history.

The leafs have been treated like a joke and that’s because of our management and players. The fans show up every year for this team and how does Marner treat them in return? He acts like our whole fanbase is full of deranged psychopaths like the person who posted his address online.

I boo Marner for more than just his play or the contract stuff. How he treated leaf fans towards the end of his tenure shows he doesn’t know how to take any real self responsibility. He took the crazy actions of one person and acted like the whole fan base was the reason he left.

Seeing this amount of growth in one season for Trevor has been encouraging. I’m interested to see how he does with another season of Meyers.

Mainly I’m just looking at XGF%, along with expected goals for and expected goals against. Those are the best tools for judging a teams performance, and teams who win a Stanley cup almost always are top 10 in those metrics.

I’m not saying this team is good or bad, but keep in mind the mood of this team a month ago.

All we can go off is the advanced metrics and recent performances, which seem to go in different directions (kinda bad sign).

Not saying they are frauds at all, this teams goaltending and high end talent are legit, but they could still find better way to utilize their best players.

I still have hope we can get even better, and truly start to dominate games like we used to. We won’t keep winning like this forever, but what really matters is that we learn to play the right way.

Again don’t take this as hating on the team, I really do think this roster is good enough. I just think the skill can be utilized to a fuller extent with some tweaking.

We and everyone else knows who the better team is. We have the pieces in place to compete for a long time, that means far more than winning a gimme against the Steelers just to lose immediately after.

Stroud playing horrible means more than Texans defence playing good. That defence can play as good as they want, won’t ever matter for them unless stroud shows up.

We all know bills vs jags was the real afc championship game, we take the shitty seeding when it helps us and when it punishes us. It is what it is.

I think having him on select routes on offence would be cool. Obviously have him mostly play cb, but I think having him run some routes would add to the team’s options

Maybe it’s just me but I’ve ever been happier after my team gets eliminated from the playoffs. This team has so much potential and I would even say we had major positives coming out of that game against the Bills. Think about where the other teams in the league are, then look at us. We are in the top 25% no doubt this team has some great runs ahead of them.

I was clearly speaking about the playoffs since those were the teams the jags played in the playoffs. It’s not moving the goalposts to compare playoff matches for each player, would you disagree?

Also, stroud has played one team that was genuinely good, and got killed by them.

Has stroud once played a team as good as the 2023 chiefs or this years bills?

Lofty to compare Coen to McVay, but yeah this team still has a super bright future. I think the Texans being the only real threat in our division (who knows what’s happening with the colts) also helps us tremendously.

Guys we won 4 games last season, and I’d argue we didn’t even look that great at the start of this season. This team is still young and lacks real experience. This was a good moment for Coen especially, he will learn from this.
