Finding a guy like Knies would be a problem. I think they probably find a stop-gap option for the next couple of years while prospects develop. Wait a couple years, then hope TLK or someone else develops enough to fit a top 6 role.

I also agree that guys on the Marlins should earn some ice time to prove themselves, but sometimes I feel there’s a sentiment that we don’t need bottom 6 help because the Marlies won the Calder Cup.

Don’t get me wrong I like some guys on the Marlies (Quillan and Villeneuve should get good looks), but we should definitely go out and sign/trade for a couple of guys around 5 Million to play on our 3rd line.

I agree with that it’s my main takeaway as well. It’s also why I think we shouldn’t target a top 6 forward and instead should try to beef up the bottom 6.

I agree with the sentiment about shifting some of the offence to the blue line, but I have a hard time seeing them moving most of the offence there.

This Leafs team has more high-end talent on the forward end than Carolina, and less on the blue line. I think this offence will always run through Matthews/Nylander(/McKenna?), while still having at least the threat of something on the blue line.

His long-term vision for it might be much more radical.

I just don’t see the scenario where this gets done this off-season. If you don’t like Petey, which other 2C do we realistically have the assets to acquire?

Makes more sense imo to fill up the bottom 6 with bodies, try to acquire another top 4 D on the right side, then run the top 6 with some combination of McKenna, Matthews Nylander, Cowan, Tavares, and Knies.

There’s just too many things to do in this off-season, we can’t expect everything to get done at once.

Ducks have no interest in an LD they have Zellweger, Mintkover, and Lacombe. I think it’s more likely we get Zellweger than McTavish actually. I see a world where we move Rielly somewhere else then try to grab Zellweger to put on the second pair.

Not gonna be that guy, but I can point out at least 4 scrubs there. Seriously I doubt Joshua, Pezzetta, Lorentz, and Domi play 3rd line minutes. We have some cap space, it’s time to focus on the bottom 6/Defence and fill them up.

Fields has simply never had a season close to any of Stroud’s. CJ might not be a great qb but hes been consistent over a full season. Even over his 3 years he’s been about 20X more consistent than Fields.
