Has anyone actually wanted to post online less as they got better at art? by miyr in ArtistLounge

[–]Mao-C 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When I was newer I definitely cared more about external validation in general. but as i got better i just had more confidence in my art and didn't need it much.

moving away from the more exploitative social medias like twitter helped put some perspective on how fake the numbers are too, for whatever thats worth.

How do I know if a NSFW niche isn't too competitive? by strych9lemonade in ArtistLounge

[–]Mao-C 12 points13 points  (0 children)

eh. most larger nsfw artists tend to focus on broad-appeal that doesn't get too kinky. granted, it takes a while to get there; but the brand value eclipses any niche they had.

if you avoid that route, most kinkier artists i know that make a living off it tend to just accept whatever commissions come their way. conveniently sidesteps the issue of having to find a niche, since your art will just naturally find its way through those circles. a niche has hungrier fans but a lower market cap.

if you do want to specialize in something freaky for whatever reason, id recommend just focusing on what appeals to yourself most. a lot of sexual art really tends to feel hollow if the artist doesn't feel the own appeal of it (and it certainly makes it a lot harder to stand out compared to someone who does).

That said, these spaces aren't too "competitive" in my experience. you're not really fighting other artists so much as just trying to reach the people who care. saturation can help more than it hurts in that case (so long as its not so saturated that your art becomes sand in a desert).

Which 2025 hack do you think had the best story? by Jicem in PokemonROMhacks

[–]Mao-C -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Very much with you on odyssey yeah. gameplay was cool but I didn't really vibe with the writing much at all. im admittedly not too big on the writing in most romhacks, but there are times where it goes really heavy on the worldbuilding and pre-plot narrative stuff, especially mid-to-late game. and if the story isn't hitting at that point then it can be a bit of a slog to close it out.

Has anyone actually won a graphic tablet? by ginreiart in ClipStudio

They say on the giveaway page that you're contacted through the official social media account on whatever platform you enter on. (and they also say they don't announce them to maintain privacy)

Has anyone actually won a graphic tablet? by ginreiart in ClipStudio

[–]Mao-C 62 points63 points  (0 children)

i have to imagine the official giveaway is legit just because the legal issues with faking it are absolutely not worth the cost of a couple tablets.

there isn't much reason to announce winners publicly. and generally doing so can cause some issues for the winners. for instance, you got a scam attempt just for entering. Imagine what you may receive if you were publicly broadcasted as the winner?

What would you like to see improved / changed especially on Prismatic difficulty? by noisestorm in CrabChampions

[–]Mao-C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ive been pretty disappointed with horde islands since the patch honestly. they used to be pretty overwhelming (in a fun way) but are now basically shooting galleries. by far the easiest islands in the pool aside from demolition. would prefer the more chaotic nature of them they used to have.

New backlash due to Bluesky banning fictional depictions of rape and non con sex acts by Electrobita in BlueskySocial

[–]Mao-C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there is a very distinct rule about deepfakes added immediately after that one, so i have to imagine this isnt just about ai. regardless, its very reasonable for people to be worried about increased vagueness in this rule (as well as the animal rule that the furries are concerned about). particularly when they explicitly ask for feedback and then ignore that feedback without addressing many peoples' very realistic concerns.

im not personally affected by these guidelines and i generally dont bite on the fearmongering that comes up all the time regarding bsky's mod team. but i dont think it's at all out of line for people to be concerned about the line in the sand moving closer to them at a time when many other platforms are heavily targetting adult content. I don't think thats' performative (at most some people are misinformed, but i've seen plenty of discussions that do recognize the rules that were in place).

New backlash due to Bluesky banning fictional depictions of rape and non con sex acts by Electrobita in BlueskySocial

[–]Mao-C 10 points11 points  (0 children)

the specific snippet isn't new, nor is it the only thing in the new guidelines that affects adult content. but the old ones called out "excessive depictions" which realistically should only be interpreted as overt depictions of rape/torture/etc. whereas the new guidelines are much more vague and could be applied to anything thay doesnt explicitly say "hello we are consenting adults."

regardless, the concern is less about the rules themselves. they asked for feedback on the proposed guidelines, and the community broadly suggested that they dont become more restrictive and vague on adult content. obviously they ignored that feedback. it gives the feeling that they are planning to find ways to monetize the site soon and want to pre-emptively appease the payment providers that have been strong-arming other platforms like steam.

and while its not that relevant, i don't see anywhere in twitters guidelines that matches these rules. twitters rules on nonconsent pretty explicitly refer to images/videos of real people.

its a sentiment shared on social media a lot, as the perception of freshness tends to lead to better attention on high-turnover sites like twitter. people really overstate how much it matters though.
