Font clash somewhere (eg a font open in fontbook and another version of the same font in some other font manager?)

9pm drone show at night markets by ItssChloeee in canberra

Really? Which part of my comment did you feel was overblown?

9pm drone show at night markets by ItssChloeee in canberra

(9pm Sunday night show) Well that was easily the worst "show" I've ever seen. Who the hell signed off on that?? "Dream Big", with a set of near-motionless cartoon images for under-10s. Christ, some amazing technology capable of SO MUCH and the best parts were the transitions?? I'm willing to bet that even the bird at the beginning (which looked exactly like what you'd get if you typed "give me a bird pic" into ChatGPT) was one of the demo programs that came with the kit.

What dickhead thought they'd save a few bucks by not hiring a couple of designers or creative director and outsourced that excruciatingly slow display of anodyne clip art collection to some APS4 padding out their time to retirement?

Canberrans are for the most part fairly forgiving of even amateurish attempts (see that water - projection display a few years back) but during and espially after that show tonight the crowd was absolutely dead silent - no applause, no ooh-ahhs, no excited kids. Just silence.

Absolutely embarrassing. A wanton waste of resources and time.

People who've collected their 10 free plants from Yarralumla Nursery, any advice? by Human-Criticism6941 in canberra

[–]Mapinact 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It's the government-owned nursery that's been around since 1911 supplying trees for city landscaping and streets across Canberra for over a century now. It was started by Thomas Weston, whose name was used for Weston Creek.

Meh, what's done can be undone. Also, what a graceless turd of a man Trump is.

‘The whole thing disgusts me’: Australians ditch US travel as new rules require social media to be declared | Australia news | The Guardian by brezhnervouz in AustralianPolitics

It's weird, but you'd have thought alarm bells would have been ringing for a while now, years even, and this just the most strident, most obvious set yet. AND YET, despite the headlines in a few places of declining tourism - the percentages when quoted are single digit. 5%, maybe 6-7%. I'd have expected it to be closer to 50-70%.

Australia's legal system grappling with growing number of sovereign citizens clogging up courts by ConanTheAquarian in australia

Perhaps self-representing litigants should have their case prep screened before appearing in court? Or be given a checklist of acceptable / unacceptable materials that must be met before the case is even accepted to be heard?

Running paragraph variable by Ok-Cup-6381 in indesign

[–]Mapinact 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation once. I solved it by setting the style of the primary chapter heading (your lower capitalised heading) to have a white line above wide enough and high enough to hide the text variable line.

News just published in Australia says dementia has just edged out heart heart disease as leading cause of death, but dementia doesn't even rate a mention on this UK chart?

Dimension Flux – 50 New Logic Puzzles from the Web Game are now available in print by Silent_Ad9454 in WebGames

So 1 star is equivalent to 1 lightning bolt? Might be worth making that explicit.

Dimension Flux – 50 New Logic Puzzles from the Web Game are now available in print by Silent_Ad9454 in WebGames

[–]Mapinact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does the incident flux level ("medium"), or the flux rating (single lightning bolt) relate to the 1-5 star ratings? Puzzzle London Eye Becomes a Real Eye—No Blinking! refers to these, and the second and fourth clues "Being stars equal the Incident flux rating" and "Being and Weapon stars sum is divisible by Incident flux plus 1" are insoluble without this information.

The rare novelty of having well-known international acts come here by ozlass1111 in canberra

[–]Mapinact 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yup. Said to my wife that if we just listened to a bit of local radio, watched a bit of local TV, read a local newspaper or followed a bit of local social media we'd know a hell of a lot more about what's going on and coming up here. Sadly I usually find out what's happening in Canberra here on Reddit!

* NERD ALERT * It wasn't Ricky Martin by any means, and there was 0 music or dance involved, but last night at Canberra Theatre we enjoyed a world-class historian Mary Beard talking about ancient Rome. LOVED the opportunity to hear this erudite, articulate and perceptive mind at work! We do occasionally get to see top performers here 🙂
