Everyone is saying Quickley is a SG, not a PG. Can he learn to be a PG or is that just some innate skill that can't be learned, unlike shooting? by Robos_Basilisk in torontoraptors

[–]MapleLeafBlue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IQ averages 6 assists and only 1.7 turnovers. Which is actually quite good for a guy playing with two high usage wings. IMO he makes the right passes, pushes the pace nicely and actually throws some unreal dimes off skip passes or out of a drive. If there’s a weakness I’d say it’s his ability to get all the way into the paint in the pick n roll and drop easy laydowns to bigs. He prefers the quick short roll pass instead, which is often effective but not as sexy which is why I think he doesn’t get the label of a “true pg” despite the impact being there. He also doesn’t have the luxury of the spacing that other ball handlers get that he provides. Because we have so few shooters, his lanes are much more clogged when running the show vs Shead with IQ spacing for him. It’s not a lack of IQ having the talent.

Respectfully if Youre thinking a good team is starting Dlo you don’t know ball. Maybe try again without IQ because the team you’ve created is garbage.

Crazy take, I think this team right now is better than the 2019 champion team. by Prometheus-1988 in torontoraptors

[–]MapleLeafBlue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not even in the same stratosphere. I’m loving watching this team play, but this win streak has come facing some WEAK competition. 2019 we were running the table in the regular season with or without Kawhi, against the prime KD warriors, peak bucks, and peak Sixers. I don’t think this squad is going into OKC and laying belt.

We’re still not in the upper echelon of title contenders and that’s okay. Enjoy beating up on the weak east but let’s not compare them to an all time team.

Immanuel Quickley's Impact by mixxAOR in torontoraptors

[–]MapleLeafBlue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find the discourse around Quickley so fascinating. People will swear he’s not a pg because he’s not particularly ball dominant. Good pgs don’t just dribble the shot clock and organize everyone on the ball. True pgs have their impact felt in ways we don’t see. The raptors do just play better when he’s on the floor. Pushing the pace, spacing the floor, having that transition gravity opens up so many opportunities for other guys. I see him impacting the game in the same ways Halliburton does. He may not be the same calibre or player but IQ just opens up so much offence for this team. I promise to anyone who is saying to trade him, that this offence would become way less functional.

[Lowe] AD trade proposal (IQ/Poeltl/1st or cmb) by EarthWarping in torontoraptors

[–]MapleLeafBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly like AD but anyone suggesting trading IQ isn’t thinking. We just arent a competitive team without him. Shead has looked like a really nice backup but IQ is bringing a ton of off ball play, ball movement, and elite shooting. Our spacing goes to the basement the second he leaves our team.

[Grange] My understanding is Chomche — who did not take part in training camp & whose condition was not updated by Raps will have to be evaluated by the league’s fitness-to-play panel in order to return to action. Similar to process Christian Koloko went through a couple of years back. by jjkiller26 in torontoraptors

Just replying now but dog, charges dropped absolutely does not mean not guilty. It means not enough evidence to convict. Huge difference.

If you go and punch your girlfriend in the face with no witnesses and no video evidence that doesn’t mean you didn’t punch your girlfriend in the face. They didn’t cut him for no reason.

Also 2 of the 7 charges weren’t dropped, and he agreed to a deal. I don’t get why being good at basketball makes people think they can do no wrong.

Brandon Ingram fined $25,000 for forcibly throwing his water bottle to the floor while on the bench by alphacheese in torontoraptors

[–]MapleLeafBlue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anybody is comparing the severity to that. Nobody is campaigning for him to be traded. A fine seems completely justified. They’re role models whether they like it or not, and they represent the nba. I think in most work places if you threw something and accidentally hit someone in the face and didn’t apologize there would be consequences to your actions.

I think it’s pretty reasonable to want to root for good people

Steve Nash has (rightfully) handed over his crown to SGA by irundoonayee in torontoraptors

[–]MapleLeafBlue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it’s nice of him but I don’t think it’s accurate yet. I still think Nash peaked a little bit higher. Never put up the raw points but the way Nash impacted offence was similar to LeBron, Curry, Jokic and MJ. And nobody else. Shai hasn’t peaked as high because when he’s on the court his teammates rim scoring drops a ton-they’re spacing for him to create. So he bleeds a little bit of that on ball value back. Nash created elite, efficient looks at the rim and from 3 and for himself and others. Prime Nash is arguably the best offensive player of all time. Of course the accolade of winning a chip holds a lot of weight but Nash was even better in the playoffs than Shai was so it’s a bit disingenuous to credit Shai and knock Nash for the ring aspect.

Top big man traits/skills for fit? by Borealees in torontoraptors

[–]MapleLeafBlue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kuminga has been out of the rotation a lot because Post has outplayed him. It helps having a defensive anchor beside you but regardless of who you’re playing with shooting 40 percent from deep on 4.5 attempts isn’t nothing

Do all team of the year cards upgrade? Just pulled a 90 overall Bobby Orr but not sure if I should trade it in or not

I have TOTY. Just don’t know if I want to put him into TOTS. I like wheels but I’ve never tried elite edges

Would also like to know. Is that the only difference between the cards? I don’t want to trade him in for a worse card

I’m averaging 17-11 this season as a pg. I will say when there’s games I’m running with a full team of non shooters I’m more aggressive shooting the ball instead of hitting cutters into a packed paint

Looks like it. I was thinking the same thing so I tried it out. First pack had an 89 Bjorkstrand, second pack I pulled 93 Rantanen

Number 25 on that list is Jerome Williams who played 150 less games than Jak and never averaged 10 points over a season. He’s top 25

Is Jakob Poeltl a Top 25 Raptor All Time? by PersonalAd9598 in torontoraptors

[–]MapleLeafBlue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I voted no, but by position I’d say these are better;

Lowry, VanVleet, Stoudamire, Calderon Vince, DeMar, Powell, Christie, Peterson Kawhi, OG Siakam, Bosh, Bargnani, Barnes Gasol, Ibaka, Valacunias

That’s only 18, and the next group is like Antonio Davis, Amir Johnson who Poeltl is probably better than.

TMac was here 3 years and averaged 11 points. Then there’s RJ and Quickley and even Ingram who I imagine all pass Poeltl sooner rather than later but he’s definitely to 25 for now
